Chapter 1: Testament

Aluna was on the way to campus. She was well known as Aluna Mentari, 21 years old, she was a medical student, and she has a friend called Fatma. She was riding her motorcycle that always accompanied her wherever she went.

“Today, there is an exam from Mr Anton. He was known as a ‘killer lecturer.’ He has never killed a student. If he had done that, he would not have been a lecturer now. I wonder why a discipline lecturer, never smiling and strict with the rule, is called a killer lecturer. The killer is someone who kills people. I still don’t understand” Aluna’s inner voice along her way to campus. “That is not my problem.” She continued while watching the red light.

Aluna had arrived at campus at 07.15, which means the exam would begin in fifteen minutes. There was enough time to study, so she had no time to prepare for the exam because she handled the cake shop. Aluna owned a cake shop that was started with Fatma. It had run for five months which was hard for Aluna to make time for her college and work.

“Aluna!” Fatma’s voice suddenly scattered Aluna’s mind.

“Hey!” Replied Aluna and waited for her among the students. “Have you studied for today’s exam? I fell asleep last night, so I had no chance to study” Aluna continued talking while walking with Aluna.

“You don’t need to work hard to answer the questions. You are smart, so it is going to be easy for you. Even though you don’t study, you always get the highest score.” Said Fatma with her shrill voice.

“Huss! Shut up! You’re embarrassing me! It is the last time I am talking to you in a crowded place,” Said Aluna, walking away. All eyes were on her. Fatma looked so happy after embarrassing Aluna.

The exam had just finished, Aluna walked to the parking area. She saw three men with black suits from far away were standing next to her motorcycle. She walked slowly while thinking, “Maybe they are waiting for someone else” However, the closer she walked, their eyes kept starring at Aluna.

“Excuse me, can I take that motorcycle?” asked Aluna politely while pointing her finger at the motorcycle. Their big body made her afraid.

“Are you Aluna?” asked one of them, staring at Aluna.

“Yes, I am Aluna. What can I do for you?” asked her carefully.

“We come here to pick you up!” He said firmly.

“Come with us! Don’t worry! We are not bad people!” continued a man on the left.

“Of course, a bad guy won’t tell people that he’s bad. Many bad people pretend to be good people,” Aluna’s inner voice. She didn’t want to move from her place.

“We are Mr Marfel’s bodyguard! He is close to your mother! Mr Marfel wants to give you a testament from your mother before she died. He is being hospitalized in the Hospital,” said them trying to convince Aluna.

Aluna looked at them one by one, trying to determine whether they were lying or not. After making sure for a minute, “Well, I’ll come with you!” said Aluna bravely, convincing herself that they were not bad people.

“Please come with us, and we’ll take you there by car. We will bring your motorcycle.” The man said while starring at the black car near the parking area.

It took them thirty minutes until they arrived at the Hospital. When Aluna entered the room, she saw a completely white room, and there was a sixty-year-old man was lying down weakly with the help of oxygen. He looked at Aluna and tried to smile at her. Aluna was told to come to the room alone. Those three men couldn’t come inside the room. Aluna got closer to Mr. Marfel. She’s been standing for ten minutes, whereas Mr Marfel kept staring at her. Until, with his weak voice, Mr Marfel told Aluna to listen to a recording that had been prepared before. Aluna took the recording and tried to listen to it.

Aluna dear, How are you? It’s been a long time since you heard my voice. Mom recorded this in the Hospital. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you about this directly. Mom wants you to get married to Mr Marfel’s son. I’m sure he can be the best partner for you in the future. Maybe you haven’t met him yet, but I hope you want to marry him. Mr Marfel is my close friend. Since mom was hospitalized in the Hospital, Mr Marfel had helped mom with the treatment. But it’s not about it; mom wants you to get married! I’m sure he’s the right man for you! Will you marry him, Aluna? I hope you will! Love you, Aluna!’

“What is it, God? How can I marry someone that I don’t know?” Aluna’s inner voice, she started crying.
