As One

“Lane, what are you doing here? You should be resting in your chambers,” Ashmita’s voice was shaking in fear.

“What you are doing is treason!”

I snapped back from my thoughts when I heard Lane’s voice thunder in the room. My eyes looked up at Ashmita’s helpless composure. Then my gaze traveled to Lane just behind Ashmita. All I could see was half his face.

But even just half of it, I could feel the rage burning in his eyes. I gripped tightly on my chair as I thought of a way to escape, but I was hopeless too.

“What do you mean? She harmed you! It is treason to kill the Alpha!”

“And killing the Luna isn’t?”

Silence invaded darkness and every corner of the room. It finally processed in my mind that Lane performed the ritual without my knowledge. But why would he? Why would he give me his essence while he sucked for my blood?
