“W-where is he…?”
Alicia mumbled to herself, scanning the town square with a single person in mind. —Rey! ‘I thought he would want to hang out together.’ This would be the first time they would explore the town, so she thought he would want to do it with her. She imagined they would check out the marketplace and even have tons of fun… like on a date. But he was nowhere to be found now. ‘I guess I was the only one who was looking forward to this…’ Alicia tried to shake off her disappointment when she sensed a shadow looming behind her. Someone was approaching her, and for a moment she suspected it would be Rey. ‘Maybe he quickly went to get something and came back for me.’ It was sort of rude, and she would have to give him an earful for it, but Alicia was relieved. This meant they could finally hang out. However, the moment she turned back and looked at the person who approached her, it wasn’t the boy she longed to see. She recognized the face, though seeing it didn’t exactly make her happy. ‘It’s him!’ She tried to hide her disappointment, but Alicia wasn’t a great actress. “H-hey… Billy. I thought you already went off with your friends.” Alicia hoped he would take the hint and just go and hang out with the many friends he already had. She squirmed under his gaze, feeling uncomfortable. “Well… I… just thought maybe we could hang out together. You know, since it’s our first time in town and all.” Alicia fought back tears. Why were the words she longed to hear from Rey being spoken to her by Billy? It felt like a cruel twist of fate. “Erm, I was hoping to explore on my own. You know how I am… haha…” She tried to let him down gently, hoping he’d take the hint. “I just want to be alone,” she added, forcing a smile to ease the tension. However… “… Because Rey isn’t here, right?” Billy’s whisper cut through the air, catching her off guard. “What was that?” “Rey isn’t even here! He went off on his own. He clearly doesn’t care about you… not like I do!” Alicia was stunned that Billy would make such an outright confession after he had been so subtle and indirect in the past. Especially now that they were in the middle of the town square. “Billy, lower your voice and—” “You think I don’t have eyes? I see you with him all the time. How can you be going to his room so frequently? Even staying so long there till late at night?!” Alicia knew what Billy was referring to, and it proved her point that he had been indeed stalking her. In retrospect, Alicia realized she had spent way too much time in Rey’s room that night. They had both lost track of time due to the fun conversation they were having. Would she change that night if she could? Alicia’s answer was a resounding no! It was clearly because they were having fun that so much time had gone by without either of them realizing it. ‘And it’s not like we did anything…’ But those thoughts aside, Billy was really getting on her nerves. “I told you to lower your—” “Do you know what people are saying? Do you know how hard I try to fight the rumors and help you out, even in secret? Yet you spend time with that loser that abandons you the slightest chance he gets.” Right now, Billy was whining and shouting like a child throwing a tantrum. Alicia couldn’t hide her disgust as she looked at him, her brows furrowing in annoyance. He kept blabbering on and on about what he had done for her, how hard he worked… and how unfair she was being to him. It got to a point where Alicia couldn’t take his pathetic display any longer. ‘This idiot. There are eyes on us and he won’t stop talking.’ It was at this point that Alicia reached the limits of her patience and it was for that very reason that she finally spewed out her pent-up frustration. “Would you shut up already? You’re the most insensitive asshole I’ve ever spoken to. Why don’t you just leave me alone?” As her words hung in the air, Billy paused in utter shock. The tables had turned, and it seemed like she was suddenly the villain in his eyes. Alicia didn’t care, though. She was done being polite to this guy. ‘The reason I was subtle and indirect to him was because he was also subtle. I didn’t want to be too forward, and I considered his feelings, which is why I didn’t outrightly reject him…’ But now that Billy had revealed his true colors, Alicia had no reason to continue the charade. “I don’t like you, Billy. And if you keep pestering me, I’ll have to defend myself. You wouldn’t want a fight between us, would you?” Alicia threatened, deepening her glare. At her words, Billy visibly shuddered. Everyone knew Alicia was stronger and more skilled than him. Their classes may have been in the same tier, but her abilities far surpassed his. If they were ever to fight, it would be an embarrassingly easy win for Alicia. “Exactly. So back off. If you keep pestering me, I might have to involve Adonis and the higher-ups too.” The look on Billy’s face as she said this made it clear he was nervous. Of course, a suck-up like him wouldn’t want to lose all the goodwill he had been getting thus far. Alicia couldn’t help but find it pathetic. ‘Unlike you, Rey doesn’t care about any of that…’ And yes, Rey did leave her alone in this town to wander on her own, but at least he didn’t publicly embarrass her or bombard her with hurtful words like Billy did. Most importantly, Alicia actually liked Rey—not the guy standing in front of her. “Just leave me alone and don’t bother me again, okay? Don’t follow me,” Alicia stated firmly before turning to walk away, leaving Billy standing there like a lifeless statue. She didn’t feel great about having to be so harsh, but it needed to be said. ‘Look what you’ve caused, Rey. Because you left, this guy felt bold enough to act up.’ Despite everything, Alicia couldn’t help but smile. She wasn’t particularly angry at Rey, just a bit disappointed. ‘I wonder what he’s up to…’ ******** “I… I… I just…” “I… I… I just…” Billy mumbled to himself, his voice barely audible in the bustling town square. He replayed the moments in his mind—the times when his friends called out to him, wanting him to join them, but he had chosen to seek out Alicia instead. He recalled how happy he was that Rey wasn’t present, and Alicia appeared lonely. He had thought… genuinely believed she would appreciate his company. Well… he was wrong. Not only did Alicia thoroughly reject him, but she did so in the most humiliating way possible. Billy was heartbroken to the core, his emotions raw and exposed for anyone to see. * * * [A/N] Thanks for reading! Man… I honestly feel bad for the gigachad, Billy. After everything he’s done… tsk tsk… Alicia really is ungrateful. Lol‘Oof! This is looking bad…’As Rey was on the ground, eating dust like the rest of his friends, he actively observed the current battle unfolding before him.Of course, he did so inconspicuously, since most of the people that Billy had defeated were either unconscious or too exhausted to pay attention.‘I made sure to get eliminated among the first batch of students. He practically one-shot me…’ Rey smiled, almost as if he was proud of that achievement. He hadn’t spoken to Billy since that night when he walked back to their living quarters with Alicia. However, he couldn't help but notice the constant glare Billy directed his way.‘I don’t understand his problem. If he wants to talk to Alicia, he can just go find her in the library. I’m sure they’d hit it off there…’ Rey mused to himself, though the idea of Billy invading the sanctuary of the library didn’t sit well with him, it remained an option for Billy.‘Billy looks pretty well-toned now. He’s also in great shape. Plus, he’s stro
‘Hehe! Finally, I’m back!’Rey exclaimed with a wide grin on his face, stepping confidently down the spacious passageway of the seventh floor. He had been looking forward to this moment for a while now, and there were a lot of things he couldn’t wait to start doing.‘I made sure to properly understand every single detail about Hobs that I read.’Despite the incomplete research on them, Rey had understood practically all there was to know at this point. Now, the time had come to put that knowledge into action. As per the plan, he would ensure their civilization flourished by teaching them a bunch of useful things and ensuring that they evolved a lot in the process too.‘I need to also conduct experiments to observe the effects of different Monster Cores on them.’Rey was genuinely curious about what would happen, and he was itching to find out.“SKRRIAAAK.”“GURRIAKKA.”“HUKAKAYA.”The sounds of Hobgoblins greeted his ears as he entered the clearing. The familiar putrid odor lingered
‘What is this…?!’Rey felt like he was in a lion’s den, a prey to the predators that all stared at him with suspicious eyes.He swallowed hard, his throat felt dry and scratchy, as he mulled over Adonis’ direct question. How could he explain himself without giving too much away? "Well, there was training. Obviously…" he started, hoping it would suffice.“After that.” Adonis’ voice was curt, straight to the point. He didn’t even give Rey a chance to buy time and think up an excuse.‘I thought we could spend our time however we wished. No one ever bothers to ask, so I never thought of an excuse!’Rey's mind raced as he grappled with the pressure mounting around him. Wasn’t it his own business how he spent his time? Surely, Adonis understood this.So why? There had to be a reason why he was being targeted!‘I should just come up with a believable excuse and—!’ Before Rey could finalize his decision about lying, he saw something in the hand of the Grand Mage, Lucielle herself. The Trut
Rey felt an itch at the back of his throat. His stomach rumbled as a few beads of sweat dripped from his face.He had been mentally preparing himself for this moment, but now that it had finally arrived, he couldn’t help the nervousness that assailed him.At the moment, he was kneeling before the five members of the Royal Council.Conrad Listrio, as always, sat at the center of the group.Listrio's long, flowing blond hair cascaded over his shoulders, framing his calm expression as he fixed his gaze on Rey.Beside Listrio, a woman with a slightly feline smile studied Rey intently, adding to his discomfort. It almost felt like she was a cougar who desired to devour his flesh. The other three members of the Royal Council maintained neutral expressions, their faces betraying neither happiness nor sadness, just sternness.‘Oof! Tough crowd…’ Rey muttered under his breath, stealing a quick glance at the array of cold-faced guards observing himThe pressure was overwhelming.Rey could see h
After a few moments of quiet, Adonis turned to Grandmaster Conrad and gave a nod. It was time for the second grave announcement to be made.“The Head Warrior Brutus has yet to return from his expedition.”This announcement didn’t seem like much to the students, and to be honest, it wasn’t supposed to be.“We gave him and his men three days to complete their investigation, and it’s only been two days. Normally, there would be no cause for concern, but a recent development has occurred.”The expressions of the students shifted slowly, now showing worry. From Conrad’s tone alone, they could sense the seriousness of the situation.“His Royal Badge has been destroyed, but more than that… his Life Force is barely detectable.”Lucielle slowly nodded as Conrad spoke, her once-clear skin now showing wrinkles of worry from creased brows. As the Grand Mage of the Alliance, Lucielle had a lot of Spells at her disposal. One was a Spell to detect a person’s life force.Of course, there were condit
It all happened the previous day.The moment Rey left the KariBlanc Group’s building with Noah, he got a congratulatory message from the System.[Congratulations! You Have Advanced To A New Class]‘E-eh?!’ Rey was initially startled by the whole thing, but since he was wearing a mask, no one could see the stupefied expression he made.He was really thankful for that.‘But what does this mean?’Only the user of a System could see or interact with their System Messages. As such, despite being out in the open, only Rey could see the notification before him.[Congratulations! Your Class ‘Enigma’ has been advanced to ‘Elite Enigma’ due to the wealth and strength you possess]‘A Class called Enigma?’ It was the first that Rey had heard of it, but since he was in the middle of the street—right within the Black Market—Rey decided to set the matter aside for the time being.‘I’ll check it out once I return to my room…’And so he did. After returning to his room, Rey opened his Status Window.
Rey’s heart was racing as he stared at the coordinates. His fists were tightly clenched, and he felt his eyes growing bloodshot.‘Why would Alicia be in the Black Market?’ Instantly, he knew she couldn’t have been there willingly. She was clearly in some kind of trouble.‘Is it because of Billy? I’m sure it’s him!’Remembering the face of his former best friend was enough to make him grit his teeth. He was extremely annoyed.Despite his annoyance, Rey felt a wave of relief wash over him. ‘At least I found her. Ditching the rest and coming here on my own really was the right move.’Rey managed to slip away from the watchful eyes of the Investigation Squad and come here on his own after they split up to look for clues. Thanks to that, he managed to slip into the Black Market space.‘I simply guessed that I could use their network or information channels to find Alicia.’Rey had figured they would use Tracking Magic on their Items, but he didn’t expect it to be this detailed. He also d

Exception only occurs when faced with Tiers higher than the Tier of this Skill.[End Of Information]Rey's jaw dropped as he stared at the panel in front of him.‘What the heck? So she checked my Status Window and found out my name?’The girl continued to stare at him with her doll-like face, her glowing blue eyes pleading for help.‘She seems to be in an even worse state than Alicia. That means she’s been here for longer.’Instead of relying solely on the limited information he had, Rey decided to use the Skill she had used on him and uncover the truth for himself.‘It’s an S-Tier Skill, so it’s bound to consume some Mana. Still…’Rey was dying of curiosity. He had to know!‘[Absolute Appraisal].’[STATUS WINDOW] - Name: Esme- Race: Half-Elf (Human and Elf)- Class: Commoner (F-Tier)- Level: 1 (91.34% EXP) - Life Force: 2/100 {Critical}- Mana Lev
Rey took in a deep breath. He had never been in an actual sale before, but that didn’t stop him from trying his best.Besides, there were a bunch of things he hadn’t done before, but he still managed to scale through them on the first try.‘Fighting monsters is a good example…’Currently, he was walking a fine line.‘I have to be careful.’“The Grade is considerably high, and since this is a wholesale, you should know that I have over a thousand pieces,” Rey finally spoke, his voice clear and his tone confident.“I am well aware, but—”“I am also well aware of your procedures. However, I have mine. And that entails speaking to a higher-up when it comes to business of this scale.”Rey could already see anxiety creep in on the face of the man in glasses. He just had to keep pushing.“We’re talking goods worth hundreds, if not thousands of Platinum Coins. Do you really think you are sufficient to handle such a trade? Will you take full responsibility?”“S-sir, I’m just doing my job…” the
“We’re going on a short break. I’ll be right back!”The way Billy stormed out of the training grounds made it clear that he wasn’t in a great mood. The onlookers could clearly see that Rey, who had been a nobody until now, had managed to get under Billy’s skin merely by using unexpected tactics during their match. The gazes they now directed towards him was one of silent admiration and pride. While they weren’t the ones who won, it still felt good!********‘So many eyes are on me…’Rey was currently lying on the grassy plains, his eyes tightly shut as he enjoyed the fresh air and nice weather. He didn’t particularly like the attention that was being showered on him, yet he understood it was unavoidable.‘This is the price for standing out…’However, Rey was certain that even if he had lost to Billy, he would still have attracted a ton of attention—though not for positive reasons. He would have been pitied and seen as weak prey.‘I don’t want that. Just because I prefer not to stand o
"Good morning, everyone! Sir Brutus won’t be here today, so I’ll lead your Martial Arts Class instead.”The shock written on everyone’s face as they stared at the person speaking was priceless. No one could have anticipated this outcome, leaving them all staring in wide-eyed surprise.“Adonis is busy with the Alpha Group, so I guess you’ll have to settle for me.” The one who said this, with a bright smile on his excited face, was none other than Billy McGuire. Both Head Warrior Brutus and Grand Mage Lucielle would be away for the next few days, and there was no one left to teach the students, so they had to teach each other.Initially, when this was announced, everyone assumed that training would be put on hold until their teachers returned. How wrong they were…“This has to be a joke, right? Why are you the one teaching us? You’re practically one of us!”As expected, Adam flared up in rage.It was as if he had been waiting for a moment like this where his anger would be justified.
“G-GERUK!”In Hobgoblin tongue, that meant “Monster!”As the Hobgoblin Chief absorbed the reality of his people's deaths, that word kept playing in his mind over and over again.Dozens of Hobgoblins were slayed in a single moment, and the voice of their killer echoed in depraved laughter as he inflicted an unjust punishment.Just what… what did he and his people do to deserve this?!For the seven months that he had been the Chief of the Hobgoblins, they had enjoyed nothing but peace and prosperity. The Chief had eagerly looked forward to the day when he could relinquish his duties and join his ancestors in the earth. It seemed that day would arrive within a month or two, and he had been anticipating it happily.Yet, this had to happen in his lifetime? During his rulership? Why?!The ancient fables of the Hobgoblin society told of a time when they were the prey of the NightWolves, but thanks to the leadership of the great KoKuKa, the Hob Chief at the time, they were able to turn the
“Sir! It’s such a pleasant surprise to see you!” Rey was instantly greeted by a very excited Aldred Winsley. The man was grinning sheepishly at him. He seemed almost starstruck, like a fan meeting their favorite celebrity for the first time.‘He’s literally gushing…’ was Rey’s impression as he nodded slightly, entering the room.‘I was just asking your subordinate here when we might see you next.’Rey glanced at Noah and noticed him giving an uncomfortable smile.‘Were they pressuring him to convince me to come? Is that why he took so long?’It was just a guess, so Rey dismissed it.“In any case, it really is good to have you here. We have a lot to discuss.”Taking a seat on the sofa, Rey observed as Noah quickly positioned himself behind him.‘Good. He knows how to keep appearances without me needing to tell him…’ Rey felt relieved.Noah seemed to be able to handle himself in business now, but sometimes he was still an indecisive klutz.Like now, when he allowed his time to be delay
“Keuk!”Billy winced as something landed heavily on his stomach, the force of it creating a rush of wind even before impact.Fortunately, his quick step backward lessened the impact of the blow by a considerable degree.‘A-ahh…!’Still, a sharp burning sensation spread across his abdomen, making him grit his teeth to suppress a cry.It stung him, to say the least, but he endured the pain.He also tried to hide his downright shock, but Billy failed woefully at that. His bulging eyes were glued to Rey, who had resumed his standby stance—almost as if prepared to deliver another volley.‘D-did Rey just land a hit… on me?’ Billy stared in disbelief.Sure, Billy was aware that he lacked the advantage of using his incredible Skills, but his Stats were meant to be superior. How was Rey able to do something like that?!‘Calm down, Billy. He just got lucky. Yes… I was distracted and he had a lucky shot.’After chalking it down to a fluke, Billy found himself regaining composure. There was no wa
After the Trial, everyone went their way and Rey had to return to his room.Although he had the freedom to wander the central Living Room, he opted to stay put since he preferred not to.No one could blame him.As night descended and everyone else slept soundly, a certain student couldn’t sleep."Damn it…" He muttered, his eyes were wide open as he stared at the ceiling. Before long, he sat upright and clapped his hand over his face.“I screwed up big time…” He murmured in the dark.It was hard to make out the expression on his face, but it appeared to be a grimace. ‘I didn’t expect to be asked for another testimony. It wasn’t part of the plan…’In the dark of the night, Adam Sanchez lay on the bed going over the earlier events of the day.How he had been humiliated before everyone.“I really fucked up!”“Ahh… don’t blame yourself too much.” A voice suddenly said from the corner of the room.“Eep!”Like a little child, Adam shrieked as he jumped from his position, startled. The figu
In a luxurious office in an undisclosed location, a man stood by the window, paying no attention to the elegant chair and stunning desk behind him.The blond hair on his head was a lot longer than a man’s, but a tad shorter than a woman’s. He had a few wrinkles on his face, indicating his age, and a short beard that was neatly trimmed. His outfit matched the layout of the room—elegant and clearly expensive. He was watching the events of the marketplace—the Black Market—with a smile on his face.As one of the six members of the Obsidian Council, it pleased him to see the community thriving. As he savored the taste of his wine and reminisced, a sharp knock interrupted his thoughts. The man’s emerald eyes snapped towards the door, his smile slowly fading.“Come in.”The door creaked open, revealing a man dressed in a lavish waistcoat and formal attire. Despite his youthful appearance—likely in his early thirties—the wisdom reflected in his gaze betrayed his age. This was Aldred Winsley
[Moments Earlier]“It’s about time…”Adam Sanchez rose from his bed with a resolute expression on his face.As his eyes stared into the distance, his face fixed on the door that stood meters away, he had a vacant expression. His lips trembled slightly as he hid the special dagger in his pocket.‘It’s pretty late now. It’s the perfect moment to strike…’To prepare for this moment, his partner had granted him another Enchanted Item—a Stealth Necklace.Using that, along with his sole B-Tier Skill, Adam figured he could get the job done.‘No matter how strong he is… Adonis will be vulnerable in his sleep!’The floor seemed to creak as Adam took steps forward. It could have been his imagination, but the journey to the door felt longer than usual.Reaching the door at last, he placed his hand on the knob with a gentle touch.“Haaa…” He took a deep breath and calmed himself.Clearing his mind of distractions, Adam focused solely on his goal. His goal was simple, and the stage was set for hi
