Chapter 8

After Emeraude's mother showed signs of fatigue, the decision to leave was made. Initially, Alice hesitated, but the grandmother soon managed to persuade the little one to join them. Everyone headed to the car, and Emeraude noticed Cassian leaning against her vehicle, chatting animatedly with a blonde. She couldn't help but think, "Men can be so insensitive at times." She got into her mother's car, closing the door with a bit more force than necessary. Her mother looked at her, and she just shook her head.

The journey back was quick and peaceful. Upon arrival, Emeraude got out of the car and took the little one in her arms for her mother. The child promptly rested her head on Emeraude's shoulder, visibly exhausted after spending so much time in the water.

"Daughter, could you give her a bath, please?" the mother asked, and Emeraude nodded.

"Mom, I'm not sleeping here tonight. You can put her to bed in my room," Emeraude said as they walked to the front door of the house.
