Days passed with me locked in my room, taking showers, eating meals, and sneaking hidden video calls from the bathroom to check updates. There was nothing new about Mr. Anderson—just the same chairperson of Anderson Group of Companies. My father was busy convincing the board to hand my inheritance to Nicolai, who had joined the company a year ago. His focus was always elsewhere, but he followed my father diligently, ensuring he remained blind to Adeline’s true actions. At least he didn’t know about my mother or any of Adeline’s plans. That gave me some ease, even if I shouldn’t have wanted it.

After ending my call with Jina, I leaned against the bathroom counter, my fingers tapping against the cool surface. I needed something to do before I lost my mind.

A knock on my door pulled me from my thoughts. Too soon for dinner. I shut the bathroom door carefully before opening the bedroom door. Franny tiptoed inside, pressing a finger to her lips before shutting it behind her. In

I let go of Francesca, stilled, and the fire in my blood turned to ice. She collapsed to the ground with a thump, gasping for breath. My father’s indifference was never a surprise. Maybe he hated my mother enough to let Adeline do as she pleased. Maybe his love for his other family was so great that he never cared about the first one. Those were the only thoughts that kept me sane whenever he treated me coldly. Whenever he hugged Francesca but never me. It had always been clear—the lack of love. And slowly, I had come to terms with it. He never treated me like family. He was never truly a father. So what was there to miss? Nothing. It would be an absolute waste of energy to expect anything from him. And yet, I was still given a place in this house, clothes to wear, food to eat. Materially speaking, one could say I was well provided for. Maybe he was man enough to ensure I was taken care of in a way that didn’t cost him much, and I had accepted it. I had never b

“Killian, I am not here for games.” “Neither am I.” He cast a sharp glance over my shoulder, and I heard them putting their weapons down. “Go ahead. Shoot,” he said, his voice as smooth as steel. “I promise, afterward, they’ll let you walk. You’ll be the new boss anyway.” I met his gaze, unflinching. “I don’t need your permission. I want to leave. What I do and do not do has nothing to do with you.” “I’d advise you to think this through.” “No. This ends here. And when it does, every Anderson will go with my mother.” Before I could react, Killian moved. A blur of motion. My wrist twisted, the gun wrenched from my grip before I even registered the pressure. I retaliated instantly—pivoting, striking out with my elbow, aiming for his ribs. But he sidestepped, his body shifting like water, flowing seamlessly between offense and defense. I lunged, aiming a sharp kick to his knee, but he blocked effortlessly. His movements were precise, controlled—almost e

“She is technically dead.” The words sink in slowly. I clutch my hands together. My feet turn cold, my heart goes numb, and no thoughts pass through my mind. A silence settles in—a kind of silence where your mind refuses to hear anything else. “Mila…” “Mila…” “Mila!” The beeping of the heart monitor grows louder, jolting me back, and my eyes snap to Killian. “Can you hear me?” I nod, but even that feels difficult. It’s as if someone has placed a stone inside my skull, stopping my brain from functioning properly. “Listen to me.” His voice is firm, commanding. He holds my face in his hands, his gaze drilling into mine. I swallow, but my throat is dry. My eyes feel dry too. I feel like a bystander, disconnected from my own body. And then, I notice something I never have before—Killian’s eyes. Sometimes, they resemble dark stones, their depth capable of swallowing me whole. Why didn’t I realize how expressive they are? Beautiful eyes. Devastating ey

  • An Illicit Obsession    Chapter 47

From a very young age, I knew it didn’t take much to die—or to take someone’s life. One day, you see your mother, and she tells you she’ll be back in an hour. She leaves you with a kind, elderly neighbor. By evening, you find out she might never wake up again. A small boy who shared a bed with you is beaten to death one day by your orphanage guardian. You wake up to find only his bloody t-shirt in your hand. The guardian tells you he’s gone to heaven, and if you say anything, you’ll go there too. That night, you pick up a knife. You’re too young, too tired, too hurt to understand why Bob—the boy who shared his candy with you—disappeared like that. He was a little puffball with a toothy smile. To this day, you never forget that smile. You hold the knife to your guardian’s neck while she sleeps, the bitter, snake-like feeling of hatred nearly suffocating you. But then, another boy walks in—messy-haired, a book in hand, big brown eyes watching you. You look back at th

It felt like needles pricking my heart as I watched them stroll in leisurely, unfazed despite being surrounded by eight Shadow Knights. Not a flicker of fear crossed their faces. “Mr. Knight, I thought you didn’t want to get involved in my family matters, yet here you are—right in the middle of it. I must say, I’m genuinely surprised.” Those were more words than I’d ever heard my father speak at once. “What can I say?” Killian removed his mask with a slow, deliberate motion. “Andersons and Knights are irreplaceable.” “If you needed a bargaining chip to control Mila, you could have just asked,” my father said smoothly, as if offering a business deal. “You’re not even loyal to your own family,” Killian replied, voice dripping with disdain. “It’s a good thing you never set foot in Knights’ territory. There’s nothing about you that would make me consider you an ally.” My father only smiled. I couldn’t see it from here, but I knew his light green eyes must be co
