Creed was having a very difficult time with the third phase: Awareness. But now Atlas had chimed in to share some of his efforts, Creed was somewhat hopeful this time. With a companion, he started gaining his lost hope. He knew Atlas wasn't just an ordinary weapon, but very mysterious and knowledgeable. If it wasn't for his help inside the Abyss, Creed couldn't have climbed all the way up to the surface.

Not much time had passed since the time he came back from the abyss. Atlas was not just a weapon, but a being with a rationale. Creed became self-conscious about using him while training, even though he wanted to. As a result, he was still oblivious to the actual extent of Atlas' abilities and intellect.
