SHAY'S POV
“She served me with divorce papers this morning. I’ve already signed them,” he informed with a sigh. It was my turn to hug him tighter. I’d already seen my mother in the tabloids with her ‘new beau’.
It can’t be easy for him.
“I guess it’s just you and I left huh?” I smiled.
“It’s us against the world baby girl,” he said before kissing my forehead.
“How’s work?” I asked.
“Eh, same old, same old! They’re bringing in a piece of equipment that they found. Apparently they think its alien, but they’re not sure,” he replied.
That had my attention. “When is it coming in?”
“Day after tomorrow! Do you want to come with me?” he smirked.
I rolled my eyes. “Uh, duh! It’s better than having to hand in seven pages of trig that I probably don’t even understand.”
“Alright! I’ll arrange for a pass for you, on one condition,” he bargained.
“Uh oh,” I groaned.
“It’s nothing bad – or at least in my books it isn’t. You have to spend the whole of tomorrow with Pixie and make peace with her, and you’ll get the pass once she says you did well,” he explained.
“Do I really have to?” I whined.
“Uh huh! In fact, get her on the phone now and put it on loud speaker,” he suggested.
I was grumbling under my breath the entire time as I went to get my phone. I got back onto the bed and put in Pixie’s number, hoping that she hadn’t changed it. I’d changed mine when she wouldn’t stop calling me. The ringer went off as I waited anxiously.
“Hello?” she sniffed. Was she crying?
“Hello?” she said a second time when I wasn’t saying anything. My dad gave me an encouraging smile. I breathed in before saying anything.
“Hi,” I said lowly. There was a pause at the other end of the line.
“Shay?” she finally spoke.
“Pixie,” I replied.
“Oh my God! Am I dreaming?” she asked herself. She does that a lot.
“No,” I couldn’t help but giggle.
“Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!” she squealed.
I laughed. “Calm down.”
“What? Calm down? Are you high on your socks? My best friend talks to me after two whole years of silence and you want me to CALM DOWN?” she shouted. My sensitive hearing took a knock from that.
“Ok, ok! Don’t kill my ears,” I muttered while my dad chuckled to himself.
“Oh my God! How come you’re calling me?” she asked curiously.
“I wanted to take you up on your offer,” I said nervously.
“I’ll be there at 6am sharp!” she replied, making my dad and I laugh.
“Is that your dad? Hi Mr Montgomery!” she giggled.
“Hello Pixie,” he chuckled.
“Your daughter has come to life again!” she said excitedly.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say that. She may only be opening up to you only and not the rest of the world,” he said sadly.
“I’m ok with that! As long as I have my best friend back,” she squealed.
“Alright missy! Go to bed, though I doubt you’ll even sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow. You can let yourself in because there is no way in hell I’ll be up at six in the morning on a Saturday,” I told her.
“That’s cool with me! I love you!” she said happily.
“I love you too!” I said before hanging up.
I was over the moon after having spoken to her. Granted that she was crying when she picked up the phone, I’m sure my call lifted her spirits and that meant the world to me. My father had a knowing look on his face. He knew that I would be happier after that call.
I hugged him. “Thank you daddy.”
“Anytime baby girl! I think you should also get some sleep ok? I’ll be home the whole weekend, so you can come to my office anytime that you need me. I love you so much baby girl,” he smiled.
“I love you too daddy,” I returned the smile.
After a kiss to the forehead, he left with the trolley full of dirty dishes and wrappers. I went to use the bathroom and brush my teeth before heading to bed. I snuggled into my sheets with a smile on my face. I fell asleep instantly.
*****
I was standing at the edge of a lake, looking out at the water, when I felt a presence beside me. I looked to my right to see a white wolf laying there, looking out at the water. It was magnificent. Its coat was shimmering brightly as the sun hit it. It had bright blue eyes. It didn’t seem to notice my presence.
Next thing, I felt another presence. When I looked to my left, there was a big and strong black wolf there. It had eyes much like mine. When the white wolf felt its presence, she looked up and love filled her eyes. She got up and trotted over to the black wolf before they acknowledged each other lovingly. They licked each other’s faces and yipped.
Something about this moment felt very odd and right at the same time. I mean, I should’ve been freaked out by the fact that the wolves were bigger than normal wolves – actually being as big as bears, but I wasn’t afraid. If anything, I’d never felt safer. I felt as safe as I would around my dad, and that was saying a lot.
Suddenly, I heard voices.
“Isn’t she beautiful?” a female voice said melodically. I looked at the wolves to see them staring at me.
“Our baby girl,” a male voice replied proudly.
“Are you talking about me?” I managed to ask. When my voice sounded like two people speaking, my eyes widened.
“Yes princess! You’re destined for greatness, but you have to find your way here first. Your mate and your kingdom need you. You need to find your home and your true self,” the male voice told me.
I scowled. “Mate? Kingdom? What are you talking about?”
“Follow your heart and your instincts. Let them lead you home and everything else will happen from there,” the female voice said before they both got up and ran from me.
“Wait!” I called out, but it was pointless. When the rest of the scenery didn’t fade out, I waited expectantly for the next part.
“So beautiful,” I heard a male voice say behind me.
As I turned to look at him, I noticed two things – I had paws, and the guy I was looking at was downright gorgeous. Broad and defined shoulders curved as he stood before me. He was beautifully built, as though the gods had taken their time in carving him to flawlessness. His tanned skin glistened superbly in the sunlight. His dark brown hair was in a glorious mess that sexily lay on his head.
What caught me the most was the silver eyes eyeing me with so much love and adoration. They were silver, with hints of charcoal and indigo. I felt like I was the most important person, well wolf, to him in that moment.
He stepped closer to me and I didn’t even panic. He reached out to touch what I assume was my muzzle. When his hands ran through my fur, I couldn’t help but purr, making him laugh. His laughter sent shivers through me.
“Where are you little mate?” he sighed sadly. It unsettled me that he was so sad.
“Please find your way to me? I need you,” he pleaded, looking straight in my eyes.
I wanted to tell him that I didn’t know where he was, or that I didn’t even know I was a wolf, but nothing came out. Instead, he sighed and kissed my muzzle before he, and the scenery disappeared before my very eyes.
SHAY’S POVI shot up with my sweaty body, breathing as though I’d just run a marathon. My hair was stuck to my face. I could feel my heart thumping in my ears. I didn’t understand why I was in the state I was in since I didn’t exactly have a nightmare. A mug was thrust my way and I looked up to see Pixie looking at me with worried eyes.“It’s your favourite,” she offered a small smile.“Thanks,” I sighed, taking the mug from her.“Are you ok Shay? You were sleeping just fine before you started thrashing around a little,” she asked.“I wish I could say I had a nightmare, but I didn’t. I just had a strange dream, but nothing that would cause me to panic,” I replied.“Well, let’s not focus on that then! I’ve missed you,” she smiled, sitting beside me.“I’ve missed you too, more than you will ever know,” I ended lowly.“Let’s just forget about it and move on?” she suggested.I nodded with a smile. “I’d like that.”“Good! Now, what are we going to do today? We have a lot to catch up on,” s
SHAY'S POV“Cyrus! He’s totally crushing on you right now,” she pointed out. I turned to look at the blonde hair, green eyed boy and he was already smiling our way. He’s extremely cute, but Pixie was seeing things.I blushed once more. “You’re speaking rubbish!”“Uh huh! Look at the blush on your face! You totally like him too,” she squealed.“Shut up!” I groaned, banging my head on the table.“Have you guys gone through the menus yet?” Cyrus asked, making my head shoot right back up. He looked amused by my antics, to which I blushed. What the hell is wrong with my cheeks?“Uh, not yet! What would you suggest we have?” Pixie smiled.“Everything here is honestly good,” he admitted.I raised an eyebrow at him, amused. “You’ve had everything here?”“Guilty as charged,” he chuckled.“Well Cyrus, a triple cheeseburger with double fries and a large bubblegum milkshake sounds good to me right now,” Pixie smiled. Cyrus’ eyes widened.“And I’ll have a double cheeseburger, single fries, two pie
SHAY'S POV*FLASHBACK*“Shay! Would you get up already?” my sister jumped up and down on my bed.“What sorcery is this?” I groaned when I saw the time. It was 02:36 and this freak was as hyper as a four year old on sugar.“Come on! I want to show you something, but that actually requires you to get up,” she giggled.“Kay, it’s two in the morning! Can’t this wait?” I whined.“No! Now come on!” she dragged me out of my bed.She was dressed in jeans, boots, a thick jacket and a beanie. I decided to copy what she was wearing for my own safety. We tiptoed downstairs before going outside into the chilly air. We didn’t have security at our gate back then, so leaving was easy. We ran down the streets like the lunatics that we are. I always loved being like this with Kay.I didn’t know where she was taking me since it felt like we’d been walking forever. We finally made it to some woods that looked familiar. I’d never gone into the woods, but we’d driven by them a couple of times, which made m
SHAY’S POVWe left the cemetery after spending some time there. The three of us were definitely happier and the mood was lighter. It brought me joy to have gone to visit my sister’s supposed grave, and I was grateful to my best friend for suggesting it.“Would you girls love to eat dinner out?” my dad asked.“Sure,” we nodded. He led us to a restaurant and we went in with everyone looking our way. It’s not often that my dad is home as I’ve mentioned, and everyone knows who he is. We were led to a table and sat down before our waiter took our orders.“Mr M, what did you mean when you said that you guys have lost Mrs M?” Pixie asked curiously.“She’s shut Shay out and now we’re getting divorced because she’s moving on with her life,” he explained.“Oh my God! I’m so sorry you guys!” Pixie said sadly.“It’s ok Pix! It’s just my daddy and I against the world now,” I smiled. He returned the smile with a wink.“Well, it’s nice to see the duo back together,” she smiled.“Yes it is,” my dad a
SHAY'S POVI woke up bright and early on Monday since I was leaving with my dad at eight. I got ready, getting dressed in my camouflage pants, a black tank top, a black leather jacket, combat boots and my sister’s dog tag which my dad had made us when we were younger. I tied my hair up in a ponytail before heading down for breakfast.“You look like you’re going to address my soldiers,” my dad teased when I got downstairs. He was dressed in his General uniform.“I must look the part. My dad is one of the most feared people around, so I must follow in his footsteps,” I argued.“Touché! Well, eat up so that we can get out of here. I’m actually eager to see this equipment,” he said excitedly.“I know! This is you we’re talking about,” I teased. He stuck his tongue out at me. “You’re just as excited and you know it.”“Yeah, yeah,” I shrugged indifferently.I tortured him by taking extra long to eat. He kept groaning the whole way, not getting the fact that the more he groaned, the slower I
SHAY'S POV“Damn Shay, you’re so tiny, but you inflict such heavy damages,” one of the guys chuckled.“That guy needed his ass handed to him. He’s very rude,” I commented.“Trust us! We know!” another one of the guys replied.“General Montgomery, do we also have to fight your daughter?” one of the guys asked with a hint of fear.“No! I’ll spare you the injuries. What I want is for you to learn from this. I want you to learn how to treat a lady, and I want you to train to be as good as my daughter,” my dad told them. They actually looked relieved.“How long did it take you to be that good?” Jimmy asked me.“I started when I was fourteen, and I was already good a year later, but took two to be really good at it. I then moved onto weapons training, and it took a year to master that as well. For the last year, I’ve just been going through what I already know and getting better at it,” I replied. The guys looked even more impressed.“Well, this was fun to watch, but I have somewhere to be
SHAY’S POVWhen we’d been thoroughly educated on Area Alpha 101 and the weapons, we were taken back to the viewing room. There were a total of four weapons there, each with a different coloured light, shape, and design.I was honestly curious about the weapons. To me, they just didn’t seem all that harmful. The minerals that were glowing, were enchanting, but I felt like I’d not only seen them before, but I also knew where they came from.Random names and what I assume were locations, were flashing through my mind as I looked at the weapons. I wasn’t even paying attention to my father and Edgar, who were trying their hardest to get my attention.“SHAY!” they both shouted, bringing me out of my trance.“Huh? What?” I turned to them.“What have you been saying?” my dad questionedI raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know! What did you hear?”“It sounded to me like you were naming the minerals from those weapons and where each one could be found,” Edgar said in suspicion.I frowned in confusion
SHAY'S POVI left the four pieces apart and left the containment room. I was still shaken by the new information, but even I knew that I had to fake it to throw off suspicion. I hugged my dad as soon as I stepped out of the room.No matter what that machine had to say, this man was my dad.“Thought I lost you there,” he teased.“Pssh, you’re stuck with me old man,” I giggled.“This is going to sound strange and probably wrong, but Shay, we need a sample of your blood,” Edgar said nervously.I raised an eyebrow. “What for?”“Well, the fact that you were able to touch the things without getting affected in any way says a lot. We’d like to see if there’s anything in your blood that’s perhaps, different,” he replied.I crossed my arms. “There you go suggesting that I’m an alien.”“That’s not at all what we’re saying,” Edgar panicked.“It kind of is,” my dad backed me up.“Hugh, you can’t tell me that you’re not curious about why she was able to touch the equipment when it killed three sol
