Ch 9 - Needed To Know

SHAY'S POV

“Damn Shay, you’re so tiny, but you inflict such heavy damages,” one of the guys chuckled.

“That guy needed his ass handed to him. He’s very rude,” I commented.

“Trust us! We know!” another one of the guys replied.

“General Montgomery, do we also have to fight your daughter?” one of the guys asked with a hint of fear.

“No! I’ll spare you the injuries. What I want is for you to learn from this. I want you to learn how to treat a lady, and I want you to train to be as good as my daughter,” my dad told them. They actually looked relieved.

“How long did it take you to be that good?” Jimmy asked me.

“I started when I was fourteen, and I was already good a year later, but took two to be really good at it. I then moved onto weapons training, and it took a year to master that as well. For the last year, I’ve just been going through what I already know and getting better at it,” I replied. The guys looked even more impressed.

“Well, this was fun to watch, but I have somewhere to be right now, and my baby girl comes with me,” my dad announced.

The guys complained, not wanting me to leave. I chortled as I went to go and change back into my clothes. These people are super funny. When I was good to go, my dad took my bag from me before we left the guys; who made me promise to have lunch with them.

They are, by far, my favourite group of cadets that I’ve ever met.

“Those boys like you,” my dad shook his head as we headed to his office.

“Really? I couldn’t tell,” I deadpanned.

“Whatever show-off!” he smirked.

“What? Me?” I mock gasped.

“I’m proud of you baby girl. I wanted to hit that boy so hard, but I knew you’d do the job for us,” he smiled.

“He was probably a jock in high school – the kinds that think that the world revolves around them and that because they’re strongly built, that automatically means they’re actually strong and tough. I bet you he’s a mommy’s boy too, except he loves his mommy because she sees no wrong when it comes to him. She probably doesn’t even know what he’s really like,” I told him.

“You and I are thinking the same. I just wonder how devastated she’d be to receive a personal letter from the General about her beloved son’s behaviour,” he said in thought.

“You should totally do that,” I nodded. I was still pissed off.

“I will,” he decided as we reached his office.

He put my bag there, and for the next hour, I played games on my phone and texted Pixie and Cyrus. My dad needed to get some paper work done, so that’s what I was doing in the meantime. I was honestly bored out of my mind. Luckily for me, I was saved when someone came running into my dad’s office to tell him that the equipment had arrived. It was a whole two hours early.

With my pass around my neck, we left my dad’s office and walked all the way to some big room where the equipment was being carefully laid out. It was nothing like I’d ever seen before. It was being handled delicately since it was still glowing. It was fascinating watching the different coloured lights going on.

When everything was laid out, my dad and I realized that what they thought was ‘equipment’ was actually weapons. They were all built in the shapes of weapons, and they were definitely not of this world.

They honestly looked really dangerous; even more dangerous than our own weapons look. Of course some people had to comment that the weapons belonged to another country that probably had intentions of blowing us away.

Stupid people.

“They’re definitely alien,” my dad said lowly.

“I was just thinking the same thing,” I replied.

“Well, they’re not exactly alien,” a voice said beside us. We turned to see my dad’s best friend Edgar. They’ve worked together for years.

“What do you mean?” my dad asked.

He motioned for us to follow him, which we did. We went to one of the many operation rooms. In this operation room, there were computer screens all around the room and each showed a different thing. There were people running around frantically and it looked like honest chaos. One thing caught my attention though. Everything happening in this room was concerned about one thing – Area Alpha 101.

My brain tingled when I remembered everything I’d read about the area online. Something told me that I was about to learn all new information about this place, and I was eager honestly. Something about this place stood out to me, though I couldn’t place my finger on it.

My dad frowned. “Area Alpha 101? That’s where the equipment comes from? Who went there?”

“No-one went there as such. The equipment was found close to the area, and since it’s the only thing out there, we didn’t think that it could’ve come from anywhere else,” Edgar explained.

“So, what’s going on in here?” I asked.

“We’re pulling up everything we’ve ever gathered on the place and trying to link the equipment to the place. Have you ever heard of Area Alpha 101?” Edgar asked me. I nodded.

“Nothing serious though! It’s just what I found online. It was articles about the different things that happen to the people who have tried to go past the barrier,” I replied.

“That barrier has high traces of minerals that don’t exist on earth. We’ve never been able to test out exactly what those minerals are since when people touch the barrier, they’re affected. When our equipment touches the barrier, it gets eviscerated. Nothing works!” Edgar explained.

“If the barrier is there, then what makes you guys think that the equipment came from there?” my dad asked what I was thinking. I mean, if it’s so hard to get in, then why would they carelessly leave their weapons there?

“The glowing light you see on the weapons happens to have the same energy the barrier emanates radioactively. One of the weapons was armed when it was picked up and a small dosage of the minerals seeped onto the ground. There’s a hole the size of a mall from that small amount,” Edgar explained. My dad and I were wide eyed.

“Are you saying that these weapons could possibly wipe out the planet?” I asked incredulously.

“If used, then yes. We’ve already asked the big guns what they’d like us to do, and it has been agreed that we should just contain the weapons until we understand what we’re dealing with,” Edgar replied.

“So, why are they being laid out there?” my dad asked.

“They react to each other when they’re touching for some reason, so we’re separating them so that we can put them in separate containment units,” Edgar said.

I paid attention to the information displayed around me. What the internet had on Area Alpha 101 wasn’t even close to what the government had. There was so much more detailing that the government had, and I used that opportunity to suck in all the information that I could. There was just something about this place that was somewhat calling out to me.

I had to know.

I NEEDED to know!
