SHAY’S POV
When we’d been thoroughly educated on Area Alpha 101 and the weapons, we were taken back to the viewing room. There were a total of four weapons there, each with a different coloured light, shape, and design.
I was honestly curious about the weapons. To me, they just didn’t seem all that harmful. The minerals that were glowing, were enchanting, but I felt like I’d not only seen them before, but I also knew where they came from.
Random names and what I assume were locations, were flashing through my mind as I looked at the weapons. I wasn’t even paying attention to my father and Edgar, who were trying their hardest to get my attention.
“SHAY!” they both shouted, bringing me out of my trance.
“Huh? What?” I turned to them.
“What have you been saying?” my dad questioned
I raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know! What did you hear?”
“It sounded to me like you were naming the minerals from those weapons and where each one could be found,” Edgar said in suspicion.
I frowned in confusion. “Are you insinuating that I actually know where they come from?”
“Well, no,” he replied.
“Has anyone actually touched the weapons?” I asked.
“We lost three soldiers from that before we decided to pick them up with machines,” Edgar replied.
“I want to touch them,” I blurted out.
“WHAT?” both Edgar and my dad shouted.
“I want to touch them,” I repeated myself.
“We heard you the first time Shay. Why would you want to do that just after you get told what happened to people who touched them?” my dad asked in concern.
“I don’t know. Trust me?” I pleaded.
“I don’t know Shay. I’ve already lost one baby girl. I don’t think I’m ready to lose my other baby girl,” he shook his head.
“Well, there is a way to test if it’s safe for her or not,” Edgar jumped in. We turned to him expectantly.
“The minerals glow brighter when a ‘foreign’ species approaches them,” Edgar explained.
“So, if it doesn’t glow brighter, that makes me an alien?” I teased.
“Well, yes,” Edgar chuckled.
“If it glows brighter, you’re going nowhere near those weapons,” my dad warned.
“Ok daddy!” I beamed.
Edgar took us down the stairs to the place where the equipment had been laid out. Edgar used his card to open the door for me before I was let in. Everyone around looked terrified for me as I took my first step towards the equipment.
Nothing happened.
I took another step, and again nothing happened. This went on until I was standing directly in front of the weapons. These ‘weapons’ were smaller than hand guns by the way. I thought I should mention that terrifying fact.
I looked back to see shocked eyes looking my way. I looked to my dad, asking what to do, and he spoke into the intercom and told me to pick one of the weapons up. I picked up one that had a silver looking liquid and nothing happened. I fiddled with the weapon. I finally pushed one of the buttons before the coolest thing happened.
Instead of dying (which would’ve been tragic), the gooey liquid which was being referred to as ‘the minerals’, left the gun and instead travelled all over my body. I wasn’t sure what was going on, until I was completely covered by the thing. It had created a body suit for me.
“Shay?” I heard Edgar call me. I turned to him, but it looked like everyone was searching for something.
“I’m here,” I shouted back.
“Where?” my dad asked.
“You mean that you can’t see me?” I asked.
“NO,” was the resounding response. I fiddled with the weapon again until I felt the liquid thing return into the weapon.
Actually, this wasn’t a weapon – it was a body suit.
“Incredible! Pick up the second one,” Edgar instructed.
I picked up one that had a blue liquid in it. It wasn’t at all like the other one. Again I fiddled with it until I found a button. When I pressed the button, the liquid spread through me again, creating a hard body suit before the thing in my hand turned into a shield.
“This is technology in new heights!” my dad commented.
“Can you disarm it?” Edgar asked me. I nodded and pressed the button that retracted the liquid.
I didn’t need to be told to move onto the next piece. Everyone was watching on curiously as I picked up the one with black liquid. I was wary about it with it being a dark colour, but I found the button nonetheless. The liquid covered me up before the whole suit turned into spikes. I’m guessing you were a serious danger if you knocked into people in this suit.
“Amazing!” my dad commented.
Why did they have the intercom on the entire time?
I pushed the button and the suit dissembled into the liquid. I picked up the last piece with the orange liquid. This one actually didn’t have a button. Hell, it didn’t look like a weapon. It looked more like a system of some sort. I frowned as I fiddled with it, but nothing was going on. Suddenly, something pricked me, causing me to drop it.
“Ah!” I jumped and sucked on my now bleeding thumb.
My thumb was forgotten when the piece ‘stood up straight’ and made a holographic image of me before listing all the attributes that I have:
Name: Unknown
Origin: Unknown
Age: 18
Height: 5’4
Hair: Black
Eyes: Combination of orange, red and amber
Blood: Pure Royal
Position: Royal Princess/Rightful heir to the throne
Parents: King Aragon and Queen Valencia
Siblings: None
Location: Unknown
I stood frozen as I looked at the information before me. Royal Princess? King Aragon? Queen Valencia? Pure Royal blood? No siblings?
“Baby girl, what is it?” my dad’s voice interrupted me.
I turned to him. “You mean you don’t see this?”
“See what?” a whole lot of people asked.
“Wait, what do you guys see?” I asked first.
“You dropped the last thing and it’s still laying there,” my dad replied.
“So you don’t see it sitting upright and displaying holographic information about me?” I asked wide-eyed.
The strange looks I was getting from everyone were enough for me to know that I probably sounded like I was smoking my socks. I ignored them and turned back to the machine. I was going with my gut feeling by requesting the next thing.
“Search King Aragon,” I said lowly so as to not be heard by everyone else. The machine changed holographic screens before I was faced with the image of ‘my father’:
Name: Aragon Salvatore
Origin: Highlands of Agoa
Age: 1 346
Height: 6’7
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Combination of orange, red and amber
Blood: Pure Royal
Position: Royal King/Grand Alpha Male
Parents: King Gordon and Queen Matilda
Siblings: None
Location: Unknown
One thousand three hundred and forty six? And he’s my father?
This machine must be high for sure!
“Search Queen Valencia,” I said lowly once more, well aware of the fact that there were still eyes on me. Again the holographic screen changed to reveal the image of ‘my mother’:
Name: Valencia Salvatore
Origin: Lowlands of Grecia
Age: 1 298
Height: 5’6
Hair: Black
Eyes: Crystal blue
Blood: Traces of Beta blood
Position: Royal Queen/Grand Alpha Female
Parents: Timothy Hunter and Faith Hunter
Siblings: Hayes Hunter
Location: Unknown
“Put results together,” I said before the holographic screen of ‘my father’ joined that of ‘my mother’.
When they were together, I gasped. I looked just like them. I had my father’s eyes and facial structure, while I had my mother’s hair and body structure. I was more confused than ever. I’d grown up thinking that Hugh and Emily Montgomery were my parents, and yet the information was staring right back at me.
They were not my parents, and according to this thing, Kay never existed.
“Shay? Baby girl are you ok?” my father asked from the intercom. I snapped out of my thoughts.
“Uh yeah! Uhm, this thing does nothing,” I lied.
“We kind of figured that out,” Edgar replied. Only then did I notice that everyone else had gone back to doing their own jobs.
“Can I come out now?” I asked.
“Yeah sure,” they nodded.
SHAY'S POVI left the four pieces apart and left the containment room. I was still shaken by the new information, but even I knew that I had to fake it to throw off suspicion. I hugged my dad as soon as I stepped out of the room.No matter what that machine had to say, this man was my dad.“Thought I lost you there,” he teased.“Pssh, you’re stuck with me old man,” I giggled.“This is going to sound strange and probably wrong, but Shay, we need a sample of your blood,” Edgar said nervously.I raised an eyebrow. “What for?”“Well, the fact that you were able to touch the things without getting affected in any way says a lot. We’d like to see if there’s anything in your blood that’s perhaps, different,” he replied.I crossed my arms. “There you go suggesting that I’m an alien.”“That’s not at all what we’re saying,” Edgar panicked.“It kind of is,” my dad backed me up.“Hugh, you can’t tell me that you’re not curious about why she was able to touch the equipment when it killed three sol
SHAY'S POVFor the millionth time that day, I was confused by what was now in my hands. What baby was this? What betrayal was this? Where does all this take place? Is this what’s going on behind the barrier? Where do I start searching for this baby?So many questions. No answers.A knock at my door snapped me out of thought.“Are you ok baby girl? You’ve been awfully quiet up here,” my dad’s head poked in.“I’m confused about stuff. I’ve just been going through this information,” I sighed. He came in and sat on my bed.“What’s confusing you?” he asked.“Dad, did you and mom adopt Kay and I?” I asked bluntly. He paled at my question. “How did you find out?”“So it’s true?” I asked wide-eyed. He sighed and patted the spot beside him. I immediately went over to his side.“Emily and I were high school sweethearts as you know. We were the couple everyone gushed about, but we didn’t know that our perfect image would be tainted by her inability to have children. Eighteen years ago, we met a
SHAY’S POVI bolted up with my heart rate shooting through the roof. My room was dark with the moonlight shining through the window. I was sweating again, except this time there was no Pixie in sight to hand me hot chocolate. I must’ve fallen asleep and my dad must’ve tucked me in. I looked to my bedside alarm clock to find that it was 02:36. The irony didn’t pass by me.This is the same time I woke up the day Kay ‘disappeared’ exactly two years ago.“Shay,” a voice called to me.Oh great! I’m hearing her voice too now.“Shay! Would you get up already?” her voice demanded like it did two years ago.“This is the part where I ask what sorcery this is, right?” I asked out loud.I’m going insane.“Well, that is how it played out the last time,” she replied. That response was enough to make me reach for my side lamp. When I turned it on, my eyes bulged. Standing right before me was my ‘twin sister’ Kay. She looked faded though, as if she wasn’t really there. She gave me a small smile and t
SHAY'S POVMy head was spinning once I was on the other side. I felt nausea as I kneeled. I was surrounded by complete darkness. This went on for about thirty minutes before a light appeared before me. I couldn’t see Kay anywhere as the light came closer. The closer the light came, the brighter it was, which had me shielding my eyes. When I heard birds chirping, I opened my eyes and blinked a couple of times. For the first time in two years, my enhanced senses were a blessing as I took in the sight before me. It was breathtaking. It looked like I was standing at the edge of a forest, looking out at the rest of the place. In the distance, I could see the houses and all. When I looked to the left, it looked like that part of the place was darker and different. I noticed that this part looked ‘modern’ while the other looked ‘medieval’.I turned back to look at the vast forest behind me. The different scents in the wood were tantalizing my nose. I followed my instincts and went inside the
SHAY'S POVWe moved off to the kitchen, where she made me food. It wasn’t until then that I realized that I was super hungry. She explained that it was because of travelling through the barrier. Apparently if you’re not prepared for it, severe hunger is one of the after effects.“So you actually have to be prepared to go through the barrier?” I asked.“Yes, you have to. It is against the law to go through the barrier though. There are only four people that have ever crossed the barrier, and your mother is one of them,” she informed me.“Did she make it back?” I asked curiously.“I don’t know child. Like I said, your parents are missing, so no-one knows where they are,” she responded.“Alright! Can humans actually go through the barrier?” I asked.“No! Only supernatural creatures can go through the barrier. Even if you have a smidge of supernatural blood, you can go through,” she explained.“What is the barrier made out of?” I giggled, remembering the ‘minerals’.“Very powerful magic,”
AZALEA’S POV“What is it?” a voice whispered.“I don’t know! It looks like a nomad, but nomads can’t cross the barrier,” another voice whispered.“Well, should we wake it up?” the first voice asked.“I don’t think that’s necessary! It looks like it’s waking up on its own,” the second voice replied. My eyes fluttered open to be met by two pairs of bright green eyes, each with a hint of yellow in them. They were staring at me curiously. I looked at the faces looking at me. Both had blonde hair, except one was a guy and the other was a girl. They looked a lot alike, and I guessed that they were twins. They both have the same shaped nose, as well as pink and plump lips.“Hi,” I broke the silence. Both their eyes widened.“It speaks,” the guy said in awe.I frowned. “It is sitting right here.”“Excuse my brother! It’s just that we don’t know what you are. You look like a nomad but your scent suggests you’re not a nomad, so we’re not sure if you’re from the Nomad World or not,” the girl exp
AZALEA'S POV“Is anyone doing anything about overthrowing the current rulers?” I asked.“There’s rumours of an undercover group that is said to be planning to rise against the evil. We’re on a journey to find that group because we want to join it,” Bentley replied.I frowned. “Which pack are you guys from?”“The Grand Pack! We ran away,” Bennett smirked.“Why?” I asked wide-eyed.“Did you miss the part where we said there’s evil there? Our parents are the current Grand Betas and we got sick of the evil, so we ran. We want to join the group that’s fighting against the evil,” Bentley replied.“How long have you guys been on the run?” I questioned.“You mean how long do we have before we become rogues? Well, it’s only been nine days,” Bennett smiled.I sighed, leaning back onto the floor. “This is overwhelming. I’ve just come from living like a nomad for eighteen years, and now I’m thrust into this world.”“I’m here for you,” Shia said comfortingly.“We can’t even begin to imagine how st
AZALEA'S POV“No, I didn’t,” I replied.“What? A girl like you didn’t get any love? Nomads are definitely foolish!” Bennett said with a horror filled face. He’s too adorable.I laughed at that. “It doesn’t mean that every girl with a pretty face has a lover.”“In your case, you have a beautiful face, so technically, you should even be married by now,” he charmed.I blushed. “You’re such a smooth talker Bennett.”“I do try,” he winked, to which Bentley scoffed.“So, do your friends and family know that you left them?” she asked.“I think my dad might have an idea of where I went. He’s the only other person who figured out that perhaps I wasn’t human after all,” I sighed, realizing then that I actually missed him.“Do you know how you made it to the Nomad World in the first place? Or were you born there?” Bennett asked.“The night before I left, my dad confessed to me that I was adopted by him and my stepmother. Apparently she couldn’t have kids and my biological mother saw them fit to
