Chapter 3

—JENNIFER—

Two days passed and finally mom and Dad accepted that this is the only way to lead our life peacefully. Though they aren't happy about it at all but trying to adjust.

Matthew has called today and has invited us over for dinner at his house so that I and his son can meet personally.

Excitement was nowhere near me as I dressed myself in a simple Knee length, Lavender skirt, matched with a white top.

After a lot of effort I managed to cheer Mom and Dad up for dinner and we left at 7:00 Pm to Brown Mansion.

We climbed out the car and my jaws scattered on the floor seeing a lavish Mansion in front of my eyes. I doubted if the Queen's home was more beautiful than this.

A servant came forward and guided us inside the house. My eyes nearly fall out of their sockets seeing the interior and furniture of the house. The way it was maintained, it was screaming RICH RICH AND RICH everywhere.

We reached the living area and a voice of clearing throat, grabbed our attention. I collected my jaws before turning to see the man that I had lately started to despise with my every damn breath.

" Hello, Mister and Mrs. Wingsley!!" Mathhew greeted with a large smile on his face before shaking Dad's handhand as if he hadn't threatened to agree to this alliance.

Dad greeted him back formally while mom chose to stay mum.

" Hello Jennifer Dear!! I'm so happy to see you here. " He walked up to me and shook hands with me.

" Hello Mr. Brown." I said without pretending to be happy about this meeting at all.

" Please have a seat. " He said, guiding us towards the couch and settling himself opposite of us, too.

"I hope you didn't have any problem finding the house. " He asked as a maid approached with water.

"No!! " Dad said curtly, sipping the water.

"Com'on Henry, stop being a grumpy old man and cheer up. We are going to be a family. " He gave a bored look to Dad while he squinted his eyes back at him.

"What?? I might have been a little rude, but trust me. I just didn't want to lose a perfect girl for my son. " He said in a playful tone before the voice of approaching footsteps echoed in the hall.

But before I could turn back to look at the person Matthew spoke up again. " Oh, Finally. Christian is also here. "

His words rang like a red alert in my head as I heard the name. I suddenly found difficulty breathing and my body froze.

Matthew Brown, Christian Brown??

Damn it Jenni!! How could you be so ignorant about such a big thing? I was still struggling to get out of my shock while praying for some miracle to happen and prove my guess wrong when his deep voice rang close behind me.

"Good Evening!! "

SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!!

I found myself unable to move while he walked toward his father.

"This is my son Christian!! " His father stood up taking him in a side hug while I tried to sink further in my seat or wished to be invisible.

Silence fell in the hall and I finally had to look up to see what's happening, only to find Christian's wide eyes glare at me.

Double Shit!!

I gulped at the rage in his eyes as he kept glaring at me before throwing his Father's hand away and growling.

"You?? " I flinched physically at his tone and stared back.

Flashback —•—•—

I honked the horn continuously for around two minutes and people gave me annoyed looks while walking past me.

Well who cares??

The door swung open, presenting Cally, my best friend. My lips spread into a huge smile while she looked.. .. .. annoyed. Well, she is probably hungry.

"What the fuck are you doing here?? " She asked in her usual, pissed tone.

"Good morning to you too darling." I said, being sarcastic.

"I was going to cook and now I feel like throwing you on the road and running your own car over you for delaying my breakfast even more" She gritted through her teeth, standing before me with a death glare.

This was my clue to present my shield. I pushed my hand in the car through the open window and picked up the box of pizza.

"You mean brunch??" I corrected,it was already past twelve, pushing the box into her hands and her expression instantly changed.

Of course, she is a lazy ass. That's why we are best friends. Difference is, she lives alone so there's no one to shout at her for waking up so late.

"Where are we heading?? " She asked as she locked her house before climbing into the car.

"I need to buy some books. " I said, pressing the accelerator.

She was about to take a bite from her pizza when her hands stopped near her mouth and she turned towards me, perplexed.

" We bought four last week." She exclaimed in disbelief.

"I had just completed the fourth one last night. " I said, focusing on the road.

She raised her hands in the air to pass another comment about her disbelief but then dropped them back in her lap and chose to ignore my unhealthy reading habits.

After parking the car we both climbed out and crossed the road, as the bookstore was on the opposite side of the parking area.

After around two hours of me searching and Cally whining beside me, I bought three romantic novels and headed towards the Cafe next door.

" I'm never coming with you ever again." She gritted her teeth before pulling out the chair and dumping herself on it.

"C'mon. It didn't take that long" I said in a bored tone.

" Shut the fuck up. " The waiter, who came to take orders, flinched at her choice of words.

" Please excuse her. She's a little upset, mentally. " I passed the waiter an apologetic look while she kicked me under the table.

After having our lunch we walked out of the Cafe and waited for the Signal to turn red when a black shining car ran past us at the speed of a French TGV, I was so busy in admiring it that didn't react for some seconds when the car ran over one of the puddles and splashing the dirty water all over us.
