The sub-level corridor beneath the Bloodmoon Estate was carved directly into the mountain's bedrock. The air was crisp, smelling faintly of ozone, damp stone, and old parchment. Overhead, strip lights hummed with a low, modern vibration, casting stark white beams across the stainless-steel doors lining the hall.

Maya walked half a step behind Julian, her eyes scanning every security camera and biometric scanner they passed.

"You're quiet," Julian noted without looking back. He wore a simple dark shirt and trousers, the keycard held securely in his right hand.

"I'm observing," Maya replied smoothly. "You brought me to the place you strictly forbade me from visiting twelve hours ago. I'm waiting to see where the trap is."

Julian stopped in front of a heavy reinforced steel door marked VAULT 3: HISTORICAL & TERRITORIAL RECORDS. He turned slowly, his golden eyes fixing on her face with quiet intensity.

"There is no trap, Maya," he said softly. "You wanted answers about the eastern fire. If you're going to search for them, you do it where I can see you."

He pressed his thumb against the glass panel beside the door. A green light flashed, followed by a mechanical chime. Biometric Scan Confirmed: Alpha Clearance. He then swiped the black card through the lock interface. The heavy steel bolts retracted with a sharp metallic clatter, and the door slid open.

Inside, row upon row of floor-to-ceiling metal shelving held leather-bound ledgers, digital server racks, and sealed evidence boxes.

"Ten minutes," Julian said, stepping aside to let her enter first. "The eastern campaign logs are in the back third section. If you touch anything outside that sector, I terminate this tour."

"Understood," Maya whispered.

She walked straight to the back of the vault, her pulse hammering in her ears. The shelves were categorized by year and territory. Her eyes searched the metal tags until she found it: EASTERN BORDER ALLIANCE — CAMPAIGN 2023.

Maya pulled down a heavy black binder labeled Operation Ashfall.

Opening the cover, her eyes skimmed past supply lists, troop movements, and tactical maps. Finally, she reached the final page—the official execution order authorizing the full burn of her family's pack house.

At the bottom of the page was the bold seal of the Alpha Council. Beside it stood the signature line.

Maya's breath caught.

The signature written in bold black ink was Julian Vance.

Her heart dropped into a cold abyss. The waiter's message had claimed the signature wasn't his. But staring right at the paper, his name was signed in clear, authoritative script.

Was it a lie? Maya thought, a sharp pang of betrayal cutting through her chest. Was he playing me all along?

"Find what you were looking for?" Julian’s baritone voice sounded right behind her.

Maya kept her back turned for a second, forcing her expression to freeze into a neutral mask before turning around. She held up the binder, pointing directly at the signature.

"You signed it," she said, her voice dropping into an icy register. "You gave the direct order to wipe out the entire estate."

Julian took the binder from her hands, his golden eyes scanning the page. As his gaze hit the signature line, his eyebrows pulled together in a deep, genuine frown. He brought the paper closer to the overhead light, his jaw tightening into a hard, granite line.

"This isn't my handwriting," Julian said coldly.

"Your name is right there, Alpha," Maya challenged, taking a step toward him. "Your seal is stamped right beside it."

"I know what my own signature looks like, Maya," Julian snapped, his voice carrying an edge of real anger—not directed at her, but at the document in his hands. He ran his thumb over the ink. "The slant on the 'V' is too steep. And three years ago, I was leading the western perimeter defense during the summit. I wasn't even in the main office when this order was stamped."

Maya stared at him, searching his face for any sign of deception. His golden eyes were blazing with cold fury, his posture rigid as he examined the forgery.

"If you didn't sign it," Maya asked softly, "who had access to your official seal?"

Julian closed the binder with a heavy thud, his expression darkening.

"Only three people in the pack hold master access to the Alpha seal," Julian murmured, his voice dangerous and low. "Me, my second-in-command... and Elder Torin."

Before Maya could respond, a red emergency light began flashing on the vault ceiling, accompanied by a sharp, blaring alarm siren.

WARNING: SECURITY BREACH IN SUB-LEVEL SECTOR 2. MANDATORY LOCKDOWN INITIATED.

Julian immediately dropped the binder, grabbing Maya's arm and pulling her behind him as the heavy steel door of Vault 3 began sliding shut automatically.

"Stay close to me!" Julian commanded, drawing a concealed sidearm from his waistband as the lights flickered out, plunging the vault into shadowy red emergency illumination.

  • Ashes Of Desire   The Public Mask

The morning sun cast a sharp, golden glare across the central courtyard of the Bloodmoon Estate. By 9:00 AM, the courtyard was a hive of activity, buzzing with pack members, couriers, and low-ranking elders murmuring among themselves about the security lockdown from the previous night. Maya stood before the floor-to-ceiling mirror in her dressing room, smoothing down the fabric of a deep emerald silk dress that hugged her frame with quiet elegance. Her hair was swept up into an intricate, polished braid, giving her the exact appearance of a high-ranking Luna stepping out into the public eye. The door to her suite swung open without a knock. Julian stepped inside, dressed in a tailored charcoal suit that accented his broad shoulders and commanding stature. His golden eyes swept over her, lingering for a fraction of a second on her face before a slow, approving smirk touched the corner of his lips. "You clean up well for an alleged intruder," Julian mocked softly, closing the door b

  • Ashes Of Desire   Shadow In The East Wing

The heavy oak door of Maya's suite clicked shut behind her, sealing her off from the glaring fluorescent lights and heavy boots of the security detail. She leaned back against the wood, letting out a long, shuddering breath that she had been holding since the alarms blared in the vault. Her fingers were still tingling from the residual heat of Julian’s touch. The man was a walking contradiction—a ruthless Alpha who commanded fear, yet possessed the sharp intellect to realize his own signature had been forged. If Torin forged that execution order, Maya thought, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window to stare out into the black expanse of the northern forest, then the entire war three years ago was built on a lie. A faint rustle of gravel outside her window snapped her out of her thoughts. Maya froze. Her room was on the second floor of the East Wing—a height that no normal human could reach without climbing equipment. Yet, pressed against the exterior glass panel, a dark

The red emergency strobe turned the stainless-steel walls of the sub-level corridor into a flashing chamber of blood and shadow. The screeching siren echoed off the bedrock, vibrating straight through the soles of Maya's boots. Julian didn't hesitate. With one hand gripping his sidearm, his other arm wrapped securely around Maya's waist, yanking her hard against his side as he pivoted away from the closing door of Vault 3. "Keep your head down," Julian ordered, his baritone voice cutting cleanly through the screeching alarm. They sprinted down the narrow corridor toward the main security stairwell, the sound of heavy combat boots clattering against the metal grates echoing from above. The automated lockdown protocols had sealed the heavy blast doors at either end of the hall, trapping them in the central junction between Sector 2 and the core archive vaults. "We're cut off," Maya said, her breathing steady despite the chaos. Her mind raced, calculating angles and escape routes. "T

Maya didn't back away. Turning to run would only confirm her guilt and trigger his predator instincts, making him hunt her down before she reached the hallway. Instead, she straightened her spine and met his golden gaze head-on."You knew I would come," Maya said, her voice dropping its soft, timid edge entirely.Julian’s lips curved into a sharp, dangerous smile. He closed the distance between them with slow, deliberate strides until he was standing right in front of her. The heat off his chest radiated through his open robe, and the rich scent of cedar and pine filled the small space between them."I suspected," Julian purred, tossing the biometric keycard onto the desk behind him with a dull clatter. "You play the fragile, broken bride well enough for the council, Maya. But your eyes... your eyes are always calculating. You look at my pack house not as a home, but as a target."He reached out, his long fingers cupping the back of her neck. His grip was firm, holding her in place wh

  • Ashes Of Desire   Whispers In The Dark

Maya didn't flinch. She kept her palm closed around the tiny note, forcing her pulse to slow as Julian’s hand rested heavily against the side of her neck. His skin was warm, radiating that intense, magnetic Alpha energy that threatened to disrupt her focus."I’m not hiding anything, Julian," Maya said softly, tilting her head slightly into his touch—a calculated move of artificial submission that made his golden eyes darken. "It’s just overwhelming. The noise, the stares... Elder Torin's words."Julian’s thumb stroked the line of her jaw, his gaze dropping to her mouth before searching her eyes. For a second, the cold, dangerous Alpha softened, replaced by something far more complex and dangerous: genuine curiosity."Torin is a relic of a dying era," Julian murmured, his voice dropping so low only she could hear over the swelling violin music across the hall. "He thinks strength is measured in bodies and burned land. He forgets who actually commands this pack.""And who commands it?"
