The grand ballroom of the Bloodmoon Pack manor was a suffocating sea of velvet, diamond cufflinks, and lethal politicking.

Maya stood at the top of the grand double staircase, her hand resting lightly on the cold wrought-iron railing. She wore a tailored black gown with long lace sleeves and a dramatic open back—striking, elegant, yet defensive. Down in the hall below, hundreds of high-ranking pack members, foreign delegates, and military commanders mingled under massive crystal chandeliers, their hushed conversations creating a low, constant murmur.

To the public, this banquet was a grand celebration of peace: the ruthless Alpha Julian Vance uniting the contentious southern borders through marriage.

To Maya, it was a minefield.

"You're slumping," a deep baritone voice murmured against her ear.

Julian stepped up beside her, his presence instantly commanding the space around them. He looked terrifyingly handsome in a custom dark charcoal tuxedo, his hair brushed back, and his golden eyes scanning the floor below with the keen, sharp focus of a predator surveying his territory.

"I am not slumping, Alpha," Maya replied softly, keeping her gaze fixed forward, her smile fixed and graceful for the cameras flashing at the edge of the mezzanine. "I am simply gathering my energy for the performance."

"It's not a performance," Julian said, taking her hand and tucking her arm firmly through his. The warmth of his skin seeped through her lace sleeve, sending a sudden, unwanted jolt up her spine. "Tonight, you are the Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack. Every officer, every rival Alpha, and every spy in this room will be watching you for a single crack in our armor."

He bent his head down, bringing his lips close to her temple so it looked like an intimate whisper to the onlookers below. "If they smell blood, Maya, they won't just attack me. They will tear you apart."

"Then it's a good thing I don't bleed easily," she murmured back, tilting her face up to meet his golden eyes.

For a fraction of a second, something hot and dangerous flared in Julian's expression—a flicker of stark admiration that he quickly buried beneath his unyielding Alpha posture.

"Keep that sharp edge hidden," Julian warned, his grip on her hand tightening possessively as he led her down the marble stairs. "The council elders are waiting."

As they reached the main floor, the crowd parted like water. Low bows and respectfully lowered gazes greeted Julian as he walked through the ballroom, but Maya could feel the heavy, probing stares digging into her back.

"Alpha Julian," a withered, raspy voice called out.

An elderly wolf with silver hair, a scarred cheek, and a dark green suit stepped into their path, flanked by two imposing guards. Elder Torin—the chief security advisor of the Bloodmoon Pack and one of the old-guard generals who had led the assault on Maya’s ancestral home three years ago.

Maya’s pulse spiked violently, a cold wave of pure, unfiltered hatred rushing through her veins. She forced her fingers to relax against Julian's arm, digging her nails into her own palm until the pain anchored her.

"Elder Torin," Julian acknowledged smoothly, his tone even and unreadable. "I trust the border reports were to your satisfaction this evening?"

"The borders are quiet, Alpha," Torin replied, his small, dark eyes shifting slowly from Julian to Maya. He appraised her like a piece of livestock, a thin, patronizing smirk stretching across his wrinkled face. "So this is the girl from the fallen eastern lands. A delicate thing, isn't she? I remember when we cleared out her family's estate. I didn't think any of their blood line had enough spine to survive."

The insult hung in the air, sharp and deliberate.

Maya felt Julian's body go rigid beside her. His chest expanded as a dark, oppressive surge of Alpha dominance flared outward, causing the surrounding guards to flinch and drop their heads.

"Watch your tongue, Torin," Julian said, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying growl that resonated through the floorboards. "You are speaking to my wife. Disrespecting her in my hall is an act of treason against my crown."

Torin’s smile faltered, a flash of genuine fear crossing his old face as he bowed his head quickly. "Forgive me, Alpha. I meant no offense to the pack."

Maya looked at Julian in subtle shock. She had expected him to join in the humiliation or ignore it entirely. Instead, he had shielded her with the full weight of his authority.

"If you'll excuse us," Maya said, her voice smooth, sweet, and cutting through the tension. She looked Torin dead in the eyes, letting a cold, lethal glint show for a split second behind her meek expression. "My husband and I have more important guests to attend to."

Julian looked down at her, a dark, amused smirk tugging at his lips as he guided her away from the elder. "Husband? You play the devoted bride surprisingly well when it suits you."

"I simply prefer to choose my own enemies," Maya replied quietly as they approached the formal bar. "Excuse me for a moment, Alpha. I need a glass of water."

"Don't wander far," Julian said, stepping aside to greet a visiting diplomat from the western territories, though his golden eyes remained glued to her reflection in the grand mirror behind the bar.

Maya moved toward the far end of the banquet hall, near the silver champagne fountains.

A waiter dressed in a crisp black vest brushed past her, expertly balancing a tray of crystal flutes. As he passed, his shoulder lightly knocked against hers.

"The archives are guarded by blood-locks," the waiter whispered, his voice barely audible over the swelling orchestra music. "The keycard is in Julian's inner breast pocket. Third floor study key is on his ring."

Maya didn't turn her head. She picked up a champagne glass from his tray, her fingers briefly touching the waiter's palm to receive a tiny, folded piece of paper.

"Who ordered the hit three years ago?" Maya whispered under her breath, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Was it Julian?"

The waiter paused for a fraction of a second, adjusting his serving cloth. "The order came from the Alpha's desk. But the signature on the ledger... isn't his."

Before Maya could ask another question, the waiter melted back into the bustling crowd of guests, vanishing into the service doors.

Maya stood alone near the curtained archway, her thumb pressing into the small note hidden in her palm. The signature isn't his. The words echoed wildly in her mind, tearing a hole through everything she had believed for the past three years.

"You look like you've seen a ghost, little wife."

Maya turned quickly to find Julian standing right behind her, his golden eyes narrowed in sharp suspicion as he looked down at her pale face. He reached out, his long fingers casually brushing a stray lock of dark hair away from her cheek, his thumb trailing down to the sensitive skin of her neck.

"Are you hiding things from me again, Maya?" he asked, his baritone voice dangerously soft as his gaze dropped to her closed fist.

  • Ashes Of Desire   The Serpent Garden

The grand courtyard luncheon was designed to project absolute stability, but the tension beneath the surface was thick enough to choke on. Long tables draped in white linen were laden with silver platters, surrounded by high-ranking pack members who whispered behind crystal goblets. Julian pulled out a wrought-iron chair for Maya before taking his seat beside her, his powerful frame remaining rigid and alert. He kept one hand resting casually on the tablecloth, his fingers brushing the back of Maya’s hand in a silent, grounding gesture of solidarity. "Enjoying the festivities, my dear?" Elder Torin asked from across the table, his voice grating like dry stones. His gaze was fixed on Maya with predatory calculation. "Adapting to the Bloodmoon pack is rarely easy for outsiders." Maya offered a composed, elegant smile, masking the sudden spike of adrenaline in her veins. "It helps to have a guide who knows how to navigate the wolves, Elder Torin." Torin’s lips twitched into a thin, h

  • Ashes Of Desire   The Public Mask

The morning sun cast a sharp, golden glare across the central courtyard of the Bloodmoon Estate. By 9:00 AM, the courtyard was a hive of activity, buzzing with pack members, couriers, and low-ranking elders murmuring among themselves about the security lockdown from the previous night. Maya stood before the floor-to-ceiling mirror in her dressing room, smoothing down the fabric of a deep emerald silk dress that hugged her frame with quiet elegance. Her hair was swept up into an intricate, polished braid, giving her the exact appearance of a high-ranking Luna stepping out into the public eye. The door to her suite swung open without a knock. Julian stepped inside, dressed in a tailored charcoal suit that accented his broad shoulders and commanding stature. His golden eyes swept over her, lingering for a fraction of a second on her face before a slow, approving smirk touched the corner of his lips. "You clean up well for an alleged intruder," Julian mocked softly, closing the door b

  • Ashes Of Desire   Shadow In The East Wing

The heavy oak door of Maya's suite clicked shut behind her, sealing her off from the glaring fluorescent lights and heavy boots of the security detail. She leaned back against the wood, letting out a long, shuddering breath that she had been holding since the alarms blared in the vault. Her fingers were still tingling from the residual heat of Julian’s touch. The man was a walking contradiction—a ruthless Alpha who commanded fear, yet possessed the sharp intellect to realize his own signature had been forged. If Torin forged that execution order, Maya thought, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window to stare out into the black expanse of the northern forest, then the entire war three years ago was built on a lie. A faint rustle of gravel outside her window snapped her out of her thoughts. Maya froze. Her room was on the second floor of the East Wing—a height that no normal human could reach without climbing equipment. Yet, pressed against the exterior glass panel, a dark

The red emergency strobe turned the stainless-steel walls of the sub-level corridor into a flashing chamber of blood and shadow. The screeching siren echoed off the bedrock, vibrating straight through the soles of Maya's boots. Julian didn't hesitate. With one hand gripping his sidearm, his other arm wrapped securely around Maya's waist, yanking her hard against his side as he pivoted away from the closing door of Vault 3. "Keep your head down," Julian ordered, his baritone voice cutting cleanly through the screeching alarm. They sprinted down the narrow corridor toward the main security stairwell, the sound of heavy combat boots clattering against the metal grates echoing from above. The automated lockdown protocols had sealed the heavy blast doors at either end of the hall, trapping them in the central junction between Sector 2 and the core archive vaults. "We're cut off," Maya said, her breathing steady despite the chaos. Her mind raced, calculating angles and escape routes. "T

  • Ashes Of Desire   Into the Archives

The sub-level corridor beneath the Bloodmoon Estate was carved directly into the mountain's bedrock. The air was crisp, smelling faintly of ozone, damp stone, and old parchment. Overhead, strip lights hummed with a low, modern vibration, casting stark white beams across the stainless-steel doors lining the hall. Maya walked half a step behind Julian, her eyes scanning every security camera and biometric scanner they passed. "You're quiet," Julian noted without looking back. He wore a simple dark shirt and trousers, the keycard held securely in his right hand. "I'm observing," Maya replied smoothly. "You brought me to the place you strictly forbade me from visiting twelve hours ago. I'm waiting to see where the trap is." Julian stopped in front of a heavy reinforced steel door marked VAULT 3: HISTORICAL & TERRITORIAL RECORDS. He turned slowly, his golden eyes fixing on her face with quiet intensity. "There is no trap, Maya," he said softly. "You wanted answers about the eastern fi

  • Ashes Of Desire   Cornered In The Den

Maya didn't back away. Turning to run would only confirm her guilt and trigger his predator instincts, making him hunt her down before she reached the hallway. Instead, she straightened her spine and met his golden gaze head-on."You knew I would come," Maya said, her voice dropping its soft, timid edge entirely.Julian’s lips curved into a sharp, dangerous smile. He closed the distance between them with slow, deliberate strides until he was standing right in front of her. The heat off his chest radiated through his open robe, and the rich scent of cedar and pine filled the small space between them."I suspected," Julian purred, tossing the biometric keycard onto the desk behind him with a dull clatter. "You play the fragile, broken bride well enough for the council, Maya. But your eyes... your eyes are always calculating. You look at my pack house not as a home, but as a target."He reached out, his long fingers cupping the back of her neck. His grip was firm, holding her in place wh
