ASHINA’S POV

The Beta’s last words hung in the air like a fog, wrapping around my mind and refusing to let go. History is written by the survivors.

That phrase disturbed me in a way I couldn’t quite explain. My heartbeat quickened, not from fear, but from the urgent need to know.

“What really happened?” I asked, as I settled on the rim of the cot.

My voice was firmer now. “Don’t give me riddles. Don’t hold back. I want the truth, all of it.”

The Beta’s expression changed to something more serious. His gaze was not hostile, but cautious—like someone approaching a wounded animal, not sure whether it would flee or bite.

“You truly don’t know anything?” he asked again, his tone tinged with disbelief. “Your leaders never told you the truth?”

I shook my head. Oh that was a big misunderstanding then. They expected us to know what went wrong. I had always wondered and always craved for answers, yet it never seemed like pieces of the puzzles matched.
