The Blackfang military camp appeared in the distance like a sleeping beast, its outline jagged with tents, flickering fires, and tower posts manned by restless guards.

The air was heavy with smoke, sweat, and the stench of blood from the recent battle. Nevertheless, I remained hidden, crouched in a thicket just beyond the Southern ridge, clad in darkness and literally immobile.

I had made it this far without being detected—quiet and alone. It wasn’t careful planning or strategy that had brought me here, but something far more urgent. It was desperation.
