Chapter Seventeen
I’m not sure how long I've been asleep. I only woke up because I felt someone trying to climb over me. I grunted and opened an eye. The fire was almost out, and I could faintly smell burned food. Did I miss supper? I turned my head and saw Melite standing by the bed whispering to Europa. “He’s taking up so much of the bed. We can’t all fit. And don’t climb over him. What if you touch his back and cause him pain? He needs rest.” Melite sighed.
Turning my head slightly in the other direction, and I see Europa kneeling on the bed. “I won’t touch his back. But we need to sleep too.” Europa rolled her eyes. I grumbled and shifted to my side. Both girls yelped. Melite stepped back, and Europa moved further to the other side of the bed.

The rest of the day, Andromache didn’t speak, well, not to me at least. She only spoke to the girls and gave me glances. I won’t hold it against her. You can’t change everyone’s mind. And certainly not in a matter of hours. So I busied myself cleaning up around the labyrinth. The stew was actually rather good. It seems Andromache can cook. I’m glad it won’t just be me cooking. Yes, some burned bits in the stew near the bottom of the pot, but overall it was good. The girls settled in for the evening, taking up the bed. Melite was crocheting something with the colorful yawn my mother brought.
