NYSSA'S POV:

“Not long. Come on, jog with me.”

If Roman was angry at how I had ended things when he had kissed me yesterday, he was doing a good job of hiding it.

There was a gentle smile on his face, a smile that didn't need a lot to persuade me.

“I can't, Roman. I'm way too tired. Besides, I need to see to it that our clothes are ready for the summit tonight.”

The summit was ending in two days, and tonight was the night where awards were handed out to the entrepreneurs who had been recognized for the past year. Roman's name was amongst the awardees, but we didn't know which award in particular yet.

“That can wait. We can jog for two hours then come back.”

“I can't…I'm way too tired.”

I shook my head, maintaining my stance. If only Roman Adams knew what I was going to do to him soon, he would stop asking me to jog with him.

My heart, heavy as it was with the weight of betrayal, made me look at him differently. At the same time, I knew what could happen to me if I was caught. It w

  • Auctioned To The Highest Bidder   CHAPTER 81

NYSSA'S POV:After sitting in silence for several minutes, I finally summoned the courage to tell Paul I was also going to retire. Paul glanced at me suspiciously, and I knew he was probably also wondering why I had agreed to dance with Adrian Giovanni. They would never understand, would they?“Alright.” Paul muttered as he said a few goodbyes to the men he had been speaking with minutes ago. The trip from the elevator to our rooms was slow and awkward. Even though he didn't say anything, I was aware of the accusatory stare in Paul's eyes. He was accusing me of Roman's early retirement and his anger. I looked away, knowing he was right. Nothing I said justified my actions. I had chosen my path, and I didn't regret it one bit. “Goodnight, Nyssa.”I nodded as I muttered a reply, then entered the room, closing the door behind me as I struggled to breathe. Even though Paul wasn't there, I could still feel his eyes following me, accusing me. I crossed the room that served as a sittin

NYSSA'S POV:Adrian grinned as he grabbed my shoulder and my hand firmly, leading me further into the crowd and away from the eyes of Roman Adams. “I sent the text at the perfect time. Roman was on stage, Paul was near him, and there was no-one around to notice. What are you scared of?”I glared at him in anger. “That was too risky. Roman notices everything. If he sees that text, you can kiss our plans goodbye...”“Well, he didn't, did he? You can stop fretting now. Tomorrow, like I said, you leave that hotel room and never look back.”That was where I was worried. As much as I wanted to leave Roman, I wasn't sure he was going to accept me leaving him for his direct rival. He was a hard man, a man that hated sharing, and I knew that if he eventually found out I was involved with Adrian, he was going to come for me. “I…I can't, Adrian.”“What do you mean?”He placed his hand on my lower back, guiding me through the crowd of people, dancing, but at the same time plotting. “Roman wil

NYSSA'S POV:When I looked up from the phone, my eyes landed directly on Adrian, who had also been looking at me, as if he knew that I had just seen the text. Glancing around, my heart slamming in my chest, I mouthed the words, “I don't understand.”In reply, Adrian only smiled, then proceeded to look away. What in heaven's name was funny?Actually, I didn't understand. How was I supposed to walk out of the life of a man who had bought me, a man who had given me a second chance at life after I was accused of theft? Even though I had been treated quite harshly at the Adams estate and had already made a lot of enemies, I was aware of the benefits I had enjoyed there. The benefits that Roman Adams had offered. I couldn't just walk out of his life like that. He deserved an explanation. Before I could get my answer, the deafening applause from the crowd reminded me that Roman had just received his award. He took a few pictures with Mr Hargreaves and some other important looking men,

NYSSA'S POV:“You look so good, Nyssa..”There were a thousand and one reasons for me to be angry at Roman Adams, but one thing was sure. Whenever he complimented my dress or how I looked, I was bound to acknowledge it no matter how pissed off I was. “You don't look bad yourself, Roman.”His tuxedo brought out every bit of masculinity in him, the dark colour bringing out the green in his eyes. He was handsome, a kind of handsome that you acknowledged at arms length. Him being handsome didn't change the fact that he had been an obstacle to an opportunity that would've changed my life. “Of course I'm not looking bad. Why would the most stable entrepreneur in Cleveland of the past year look bad?”I smiled, then handed him the speech I had prepared for him. He looked at it with eyes that didn't take it seriously. Sometimes, I wondered why he had even come to the summit in the first place. I wasn't sure he had listened through any of the lectures and meetings they had held. “Thank you

ROMAN'S POV:I snatched the cigarette from the vendor who was selling by the side of the road, then slipped some loose change onto the table before him. Muttering my thanks, I grabbed his lighter, lit the cigarette, and billowed smoke angrily into the air. I had always tried to avoid smoking immediately after jogging because I felt it wasn't healthy, but today, I knew I had to make an exception. If I didn't smoke, I felt as if my head was going to shatter into pieces. The image of the package I had kicked as I was about to leave the room popped into my mind for the umpteenth time that morning. I didn't even know what my anger was directed at. The package or the sender? Was it the fact that Nyssa had gone ahead to tell whoever had sent the package that her phone was being monitored and she needed a new one? Was it the fact that she had disrespected me with that single notion even if she didn't know it?There were numerous reasons to be angry. But there was one particular reason
