APRIL
Life wasn't just bad for me, it was fucked up. “ Where is she? Where is that abomination?” My father called out barging into my room without notice. From a young age, I sensed something amiss in my father's eyes. Despite being his only child, his love felt like an unreachable star, always just out of grasp. I knew it was because I was not the son he had longed for. A boy to carry on our bloodline, to make him proud within the pack. In our pack, daughters like me were often seen as weak, mere afterthoughts, and I was no exception. I carried the burden of his disappointment, a constant reminder that I fell short of his dreams. The truth stung. I was just a girl in a world that valued boys. I merely caught myself reaching for a piece of clothing to cover my lower body because I was naked. I had just gotten out of the shower and I barely had time to dress up when I heard my father's voice. His gaze changed the moment he saw my body. “ You're now a real woman. Beautiful.” My father said as he walked to me and stretched his hand out in front of me. I didn't dare to move. “ Is there a reason why you called for me, father? I just took a shower. If you give me a minute, I will be right -” I said but my father hit me hard causing to fall to the ground. My face stung badly from the hit and I could feel the imprint of his hand on my face. He never slapped me. Always the punch. “ Don't interrupt me! How many times have I warned you? Do you want to die?” My father shouted and I recoiled in fear shaking my head. Seeing my fear, he smiled. “ Good. Now, get ready. Some Alphas are coming to choose some girls. You should join them.” My head reeled in shock from my father's words. Join them? I knew my father was ashamed of me. I knew he wanted to get rid of me but this was too much. I am his child, after all. “ Father, please don't do this.” I begged, desperation heavy in my voice as I pleaded with my father. “ I'll do the house chores better. I won't embarrass you. I will be good. Whatever you want.” I pleaded hoping my father would show me a bit of sympathy but I was wrong. Instead, he erupted into laughter, a loud, mocking sound that pierced through me like a sharp blade. In that moment, I felt a wave of disgust wash over me. Was it possible for one to hate their father? The answer was a yes. Every fiber of my being burned with resentment, a deep-seated loathing that I couldn’t shake. “ You're an abomination. A useless female that was given to me by the Moon Goddess.” My father cursed, “ You would have been killed years ago along with your stupid Omega mother if the moon goddess had not saved your life. I will be back in ten minutes. If you don't come out, I will drag you out. Naked or not.” My father threatened before leaving. My father's words had sent a shiver down my spine but I refused to give up. I knew I still had a chance. Putting on a dress, I packed a bag and some of the snacks that I had saved earlier and glanced around my room searching to see if I had forgotten anything else. Nothing. I had nothing. Turning around, I jumped through the window and barely landed straight on my feet. I was just an Omega with no wolf so I didn't possess the powers others had. “ Help!” I shouted as I stood on the empty, dark road waving my hand so that at least one car would stop. No one did. Feeling defeated, I sighed and began walking down the road that led out of our pack. There were some rumors about how dangerous it was to leave in the night but I didn't care. All I wanted was freedom from my father and my pack. At last, I caught sight of a car approaching down the road, and an adrenaline rush surged through me. With no time to spare, I dashed into the middle of the street, arms outstretched in a desperate plea for it to stop. To my relief, the vehicle screeched to a halt just inches away. Overcome by a wave of exhaustion, I collapsed to the ground as the growling in my stomach reminded me that I had eaten all day. “ Are you okay?” The man driving the car asked as he stepped out of his car, and I couldn't help but stare at him. He was handsome. He was older than me. Probably too old but he was extremely handsome and in good physique. His hair was ruffled and I could see some hairs growing under his chin. I couldn't see his face very clearly though. “ Let's take you to the hospital.” The mysterious stranger said, but I refused, shaking my head. The only hospital within miles of here was inside the pack. “ Help me escape, please,” I begged as I stared at him. His gaze drifted over me, intense and unwavering, sparking a heat that prickled along my skin. I felt the weight of his eyes as if he were peeling away each layer, undressing me in the depths of his mind. A shocked gasp escaped me, and I instinctively covered my chest, realizing too late that I had bolted in such a rush that I’d forgotten a bra. He sighed, as though aware of my embarrassment, then extended a hand to help me into the car. The moment I settled inside, a wave of relief swept over me, cooling the fear that had driven me here. Minutes dragged by, stretching my nerves thin as I watched the stranger who had helped me stand outside, engrossed in a hushed phone call. A strange unease settled over me, but I brushed it aside, not wanting to seem ungrateful. To distract myself, I slipped a piece of chocolate into my mouth, the dark, velvety sweetness melting across my tongue, grounding me. I closed my eyes, savoring the moment of quietness and freedom. Then the silence shattered. When I opened my eyes, I felt my blood run cold. My father’s car was pulling up, a car I knew all too well. “No… no, no, no,” I whispered, desperation clawing at my voice as I yanked on the door handle. It wouldn’t open. A cold realization dawned on me, chilling me to the core. The stranger, my supposed savior had betrayed me.APRIL A new season had begun. After Rowenna had been laid to rest, Duncan and I got married in the winter. All the packs had been present for the beginning of our new love story and I couldn't be more happier. It was as if peace had finally returned to the werewolves. I went out for my usual running along the pack lines in Central Territory. Duncan and I moved back and my pack was being taken care of by someone I trusted the most. "Greetings, Wolf Queen," Damon said as he passed by, giving a respectful nod. His silver hair shimmered under the early morning sun and the scar across his cheek reminded me of the war we'd survived. "Morning, Damon," I replied with a smile, keeping my pace steady as I jogged past him. The Central Territory had changed. The trees stood taller now, their roots deeper, as if even nature itself had been healed. I paused by the edge of the riverbank, where the breeze carried the scent of pine and wet earth. My reflection rippled in the water, a qu
APRIL I was stunned as I saw Caden standing behind me. "My dear April," Caden said as he caressed my head. "I'm very sorry and thankful, darling." "You bastard." I coughed out blood feeling my wolf whining in distress. Duncan's wolf charged forward angrily. I could sense his anger and pain as he lunged himself at Caden. However Caden was stronger. He had the sword with him and my blood.....He didn't seem weak at all. "No!" I screamed as I saw Caden catch Duncan's wolf. I closed my eyes, feeling my magic run through me as I took a deep breath. I could feel everything. The heavy magic in the air and the broken spirits in the ground. I could feel the earth crying beneath my feet, the moon humming above, and the sword calling to me again. The Sword of Nytheris hadn’t abandoned me. My hands trembled as I continued to connect with my magic and my wolf. I let go of the pain, the betrayal, and the fear. I let the power rise. It burned in my veins, fierce and alive. A su
DUNCAN April decided to save Caden. Watching as she sliced her palm, I rushed over wanting to stop her but I was too late. Damon had warned me about this before. Her blood could finally set him free. She was not just a wolf, she was part witch and part human. She was stronger than any of us and I knew Caden could use this to his advantage. Slowly, Caden's face started to show some color. His face was still pale but he looked better. Watching her kneel down by his side, letting him drink her blood made me and my wolf uneasy. I didn't like it one bit. " It's enough. Any more and you will be too weak to fight. What if Kaleric attacks us now?" I asked pulling April away before she had the chance to argue. Caden smiled as he cleaned his lips. I had stopped her before he could take too much. "Someone's jealous," Caden mocked as he looked at me. "She's my mate." I said stepping forward and April pulled me back. "Duncan, don't mind him." She said trying to ground me. "H
The wind whipped against my face as I sprinted through the trees, branches slashing at my arms. My heart pounded, the dread in my heart coiling tighter with every step. Rowenna’s voice echoed in my mind. "Caden... he tried to protect me." I didn’t wait for the rest. I couldn’t. Magic crackled at my fingertips as I whispered another spell, my bare feet skimming the forest floor faster than any normal wolf or witch should move. The forest blurred around me. Every instinct screamed that I was already too late. Caden. The Vampire King. My unexpected ally. My— I shook the thought from my mind. Now wasn’t the time. Blood. I had seen blood on Rowenna. Too much of it. And if Kaleric had truly left his castle, it meant he was done watching from the shadows. He was making his move. Moon goddess, please. Let him still be alive. I broke through the last line of trees and into the clearing where the witches often gathered. The scent of blood hit me instantly. I skidded to a stop,
The shift tore through me in a rush of heat and pain. My bones cracked, muscles stretched, and silver fur erupted across my skin. My wolf dropped to all fours, my claws digging into the cold earth. My senses sharpened. Every sound, every scent, every heartbeat in the clearing was suddenly crystal clear. Melissa stood in front of me already in her wolf form, her eyes glowing with hatred. Her growl rumbled through the air as she lowered her head, ready to strike. She moved first. She lunged at me with speed, her claws aiming straight for my wolf's face. My wolf dodged, spinning to the side and snapping her jaws at her flank. We collided, teeth and claws tearing into fur and flesh. Pain shot through my shoulder where she bit down hard, but I didn’t stop. My wolf slammed her body into hers, forcing her off balance. We both hit the ground hard. Rolling on top of her, my wolf tried to pin her, but she kicked me off with a powerful swipe. My wolf hit the ground, air knocked from my
The wind bit at my face as I stepped out of the portal. Rowenna and I stood just outside the pack lands, hidden behind a thick row of pine trees. My heart was still pounding from what Caden had said. Melissa was working with Kaleric. That name alone made my blood boil. Every part of me wanted to run straight to Duncan, to shout the truth in his face. But truth without proof was just noise. "I need to see her," I said, my voice low and cold. Rowenna turned to me, her expression unreadable. “And do what, April? Tear her apart in front of the entire pack? That’s exactly what they want. Chaos.” I clenched my fists. “She destroyed everything. My bond with Duncan. My child. She turned everyone against me. And now I know why.” Rowenna looked around cautiously. “We can’t go to Duncan yet. If Melissa and Kaleric really are working together, then they’ve already planted seeds of doubt. If we go in screaming accusations, we’ll lose before the fight even begins.” “Then what do you sugge
