[5] Thieving Stalker

Kaya’s POV

An icy chill swept down my spine, my gaze stuck in his silvery one. The stupidly handsome thief of yesterday sat at the back of the classroom I just locked myself in, looking very comfortable. Dressed in some dark jeans a brown shirt and a black jacket. But this was no time for a fashion update even if his shoes were the latest Jordan’s. Yes, I can appreciate a good pair of sneakers even in dire times such as this.

"You!" I sneered backing away slowly. Was this thief following me? Like really? How did I get myself into this kind of situation? I seriously have no time for a stalker. With all that was going on in my home life,, and now apparently my school life I really didn’t need this. The big guy upstairs must be having the time of his life having had broken the record of formulating the worst first day of school a girl could have. Oh, I just needed one measly win today! Was the too much to ask? No... Instead, I get a freaking stalker. Yippee for me.

He smirked leaning back in his chair, hands behind his head, putting his legs on the table like he owned the place “well if it isn't my little ass-kicking warrior.”

I let out a short amused snort, folding my arms across my chest. I could play this game better than he could and I was not going to let him scare me. There were a dozen kids behind the door all I had to do was scream and believe me when I say, I’m a screamer.  "I'm not your anything, thief," I retorted emphasizing the term of possession. This is how it all begins I tell you. I had watched enough crime shows to know stalkers always think they own their prey. I had to make that point clear. I'll be damned if I was connected to that little thief in any way.

As soon as the words escaped my mouth I heard a deep growl which made me look around the classroom in surprise, was there an actual bear in here or a wolf? That logic in itself was trippy. I shook my mind out of that daze turning back to look at the thief in the corner only to jump back in a startling motion, my heart threatening to leap out of my chest and abandon me when I saw him standing only a foot away from me.

I gasped leaping away, putting the teacher’s desk between us, rapidly glancing at the distance he had covered in less than a second, from the back to a foot in front of me. How could he have done that without me noticing? Was my mind playing tricks on me? I could have sworn he was just sitting over there and now-

"Don't say that again" he threatened, his tone deep and clear silver eyes now swarming storm. Even with a table between us, he managed to tower over me. I still couldn’t understand his movement to really hear what he was saying at the moment. I only looked away for a fraction of a second,

A fraction.

I quickly snapped back to my current predicament. My mind turning wheels as I thought fast, "stay back!" I yelled defensively, all my senses on high alert. This guy was a criminal.

A fast criminal. This changed everything.

He slanted his head to the right as if studying me carefully before taking another step.

"I mean it, buddy! Back off!" I screeched, heart, ramming against its cage.

He better, if he knew what was good for him.

"And if I don't?" his tone was a little more playful than before, pairing it with a smirk, “you’re going to kick me in the balls again estheraï?” it was the absolute worst time to admit that his accent was absolutely alluring.

"I'll- I'll,” I stuttered, my eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, grabbing the duster off the chalkboard holding it in front of me like a gold crested sword.

He paused as if surprised, the most beautiful chuckle I had ever heard resounding from him, raising a perfect eyebrow, "you're going to hit me with a duster?" He asked, his eyes dancing in amusement, “You really have run out of ideas.”

"You'll be surprised how the smallest of insignificant things can become a weapon in a master's hands" I replied with an 'I dare you to try' glare, trying to sound as dangerous as possible.

Honestly, all I could do if he decided to grab me is hit him on the head and do what all the suckers in horror movies should have done when they saw the first sign. Run.

He paused for a moment as if surprised before throwing his head back in laughter. I looked at him confused for a moment, actually enjoying the look on his face. His laughter died out and wiped the curious look on mine as he grinned, folding his arms, "you're a violent one aren't you?'

"Why did you steal my phone?!" I blurted out

He chuckled again, leaning his strong arms on the table, clear eyes focused solely on me, “I wanted you to chase me,” he admitted, casually as if it was a normal human want.

My eyebrows furrowed at this, not at all expecting that kind of answer, “what a jerky thing to do,” I replied, “why on earth would you want me to chase you?”

His smile faded slowly, eyes still on me. For a moment under his gaze I felt exposed, a certain cackle of electric current between us, “I wanted you alone,” he replied with the same creepy casualness, “and because I love the hunt,” his hand massaged his jaw, “I live for the chase.”

I studied him for a moment getting lost in whatever it was that was stirring deep inside me. Wait, did I have a crush on this guy already? How pathetic. I frowned at the idea, squinting my eyes at him. How was I even entertaining him? The guy was a thief, a heathen,  “Is that why you’re stalking me?” I fired back, busting out of my daze. I blamed his alluring grey eyes and stupid accent.

He seemed taken aback, taking a step forward. I retaliated immediately, moving along the desk. I was not taking any chances with the thief guy. He noticed this, nodding slightly before asking, “You think I’m stalking you estheraï?”

I shrugged, still in a warrior stance. If only I could reach for my mace in the back pocket of my bag, but now, if I lose even an ounce of concentration, this psycho might pounce. No... I wasn’t taking any unnecessary chances.  Let’s not forget he was freakishly fast.

The duster will have to do.

"I just transferred here" he replied taking another step around the table.

I moved in sync being very careful, Yeah right, try again"

He rolled his shoulders as if very bored taking a few steps around the table which made me immediately swing to the right like a ninja. To my advantage, my back was now facing the door, if I could just make him lose concentration for a second, I know I could dart right through it and into the safety of the halls.

"You really think you can outrun me?" He asked amused,

My eyes widened, how could he read my mind? “How did-“

"Glancing at an escape route was a dead give-away, but let me tell you one thing you need to learn about me my little estheraï”

He hovered over the desk, his strong arms on either side, for a second I thought it would break as he leaned in, his face a few centimeters from mine. My teenage mind over-sexualized his next movement, watching his tongue wet his lips, “I’ll never let you go.”

Something about the way he said it sent a dark sensation through my body. If that wasn’t a confirmation that he was my stalker, an incredibly hot one at that. Stupid brain. , He breathed out, his shallow breathing made me feel like I was in real danger for a second, body looking like he was about to pounce, "and you can’t outrun me, it's physically impossible, “ he added with a shrug,

I remained speechless, unable to think past the stormy stare I was captivated by.

,He suddenly broke our gaze with a short smirk, standing up straight, running a hand through his dark locks, "but, “ he began, “ to prove to you I'm not a stalker, and you did actually just find me in this classroom, minding my own business, before you began accusing me," he paused eyeing me for a second, "I'm going to back to my seat now," he finished, solemnly turning and walking back to his seat leaving me successfully confused.

He dropped into it, tapping the desk lightly with his fingers as he watched me curiously, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion, was he really stalking me?  mean logically speaking I did find him here in the classroom. He could be a transfer, yes, but he couldn't seriously blame me for assuming that. Could he? Pft why did I even care? I mean who freaking steals someone’s phone just because he wanted a chase? Who even wants a chase? Weird thing to covet.

What sort of messed-up person was he?

At least I was right about one thing. He definitely was a freaking psycho. A dangerous one at that,  with that face.

I sighed, slowly putting down my duster, looking up to catch him studying me.

"If you're expecting an apology, you'll be waiting for a long time, “I began, “but, “ I dragged, “if you apologize first for stealing my phone, and making me chase you all over kingdom come like frickin maniac then maybe, maybe I’ll apologize for assuming you’re a stalker," I explained my condition with my arms folded and my chin held up high.

He said nothing but kept watching me.

And he wonders why I think he is a stalker.

The bell rang, bringing me back to the fact that I still had school. I couldn’t believe this is when the bell was ringing actually. Well hello, Bello! Why didn’t you ring ten minutes ago when you were needed?

I waited a few more moments for my apology but he kept silent.

"Kaya!" Ally’s voice came hurtling in as she busted through the door, a relieved look on her face when our eyes met, "how can you disappear like that?! Geez! I've been looking all over the high seas for you! “She screeched grabbing my hand, “that was the bell, we need to get to class like now.”

Wow, where was that energy in the parking lot? It’s not like I hadn’t suggested that exact thing.

”what are you doing here anyway?” she asked eyes trailing around the classroom, suddenly pausing when she spotted the thief in the corner, “oh,” she gasped a little startled evidently, “h-hi" she stuttered out. If black girls could blush she would be red.

Honestly, I couldn’t blame the girl, he was quite good-looking and physically speaking,  he came a close second to the god that almost runs me over, I might have had a thing for him if he hadn't been such a...what’s the word again? That’s right…

THIEF!

He nodded glancing at her before looking back at me.

"Let's go, classes have started," Ally said, this time lower, tugging me gently,

"Wait," I said pulling back as I focused on the thief. My eyebrows arched, pursing my lips.

His eyes seemed to shine as they came into direct contact with mine.

"What's your name?" I finally asked, I couldn’t hold back my curiosity.

He grinned, "Legion."

My gaze never left him even as Ally pulled me out the door, watching the stormy-eyed and drop-dead gorgeous thief.

Yes...I had issues.
