His To Claim

This world is shared by magical beings. There is a hierarchy in place.         

First comes the dragon who rules the sky. Their power cannot be contested. Their ability to soar high in the sky and breathe fire is what put them on the top of the pyramid. They are boastful creatures who never hold back from flaunting their power when the need arises. Numerous battles had been fought between earth and sky dweller and each time dragons emerged victoriously. 

Then come the Vampire and Werewolves. Both of them have an insatiable hunger for power. They both want to rule the earth and so are always at each other's throats. The war is ongoing for the last two centuries. Efforts were made to put a peace treaty in place but that was never followed. Their hatred for each other is insurmountable. Their only goal is to rule over the world. Earth and sky both. 

Their hunger for power has emboldened them to the extent that they don't shy away from provoking dragons into numerous battles. However, each time, they receive the short end of the stick. 

But this time, Werewolves are armed with a special power in disguise of a girl, which will make them invincible.  

Then comes witches. They do not hold any power but are well versed in magic. They like to live their lives in peace. Werewolves and vampires, both respect them for their sagacity. 

And then there are elves who have little to no say in world politics. They are remembered only at the time of fatalities when a specific kind of salve is required. 

Sabrina has been taught about this since forever. It is imperative as she is going to become the Alpha Queen very soon. 

She is the only child of the alpha of the Silverstone pack. People considered her the direct descendent of the moon goddess. The prophecy was made when she was about to step into the world. Her birth was celebrated with great pomp and show as she meant a new hope for the werewolves. 

Regina, one of the most powerful witches had prophesized that Sabrina is not just any ordinary werewolf. The person who mates her will turn into the most powerful person ever to live on earth. 

Powerful enough to take down the invincible dragons, not just only vampires. 

She was a blessing for the werewolves. 

When she turned eight, the new alpha king sent over one of his messengers and expressed his wish to have Sabrina mate with his only son and the future alpha king, Cyrus, as soon as she comes of age.

The alpha Zac and the luna, Delilah acceded to the request without missing a beat. They considered themselves one of the lucky ones for being able to help the cause that will benefit the entire werewolves race. 

According to them, the moon goddess had entrusted them with an important task by giving them a piece of her in form of Sabrina and they were going to follow through with it, no matter the cost.    

That day she got promised to the future alpha king. 

And from that day on, all her expenses were borne by the Alpha King himself. 

She grew up accepting that she is the property of the future Alpha King. Her mother put her through extensive training and made sure she perfects herself into an alpha queen. 

Nobody asked what Sabrina wanted? 

For those who cared, all Sabrina wanted was a mate. She also wanted to feel the electric jolt that is said to be run through one's veins when they touch their mate. And how the world melts into nothingness when they look into the eye of their one and only.

Unfortunately, Sabrina was not given the privilege to feel that. She had been told that she was born without a mate. That she was born to serve her race only by mating with the most powerful man on earth. 

How can one expect an eight-year-old girl to accept that? But she acquiesced.

Ten years later, Sabrina had come to terms with her destiny.

She didn't meet her chosen mate for once in those years but had heard a lot about him. His valor and about his ruthlessness. She also heard how he was planning on taking on the dragons after soaking up the power that he will get after mating with Sabrina. The Crown Prince wanted his race to stand on the top of the pyramid. He was ambitious too. 

Sabrina found his tales of valor quite impressive and hoped to be able to prove herself as the alpha queen. And she also hoped to fall in love with the Crown Prince that her race worshipped.      

Her every birthday was celebrated like a festival. A ball was arranged every year by the royals. However, the Prince never attended any of them.  

And today was her eighteenth birthday.

Sabrina loved the attention she got from everyone. She didn't know what hatred feels like as she had only received love from others.

As the descendent of the moon goddess that she is, her beauty is bewitching. Her blue eyes have the power of hypnotizing anyone with their beauty.

Her maid Lhea saunters into the room to wake her up. She is not allowed to sleep past seven. 

"Wake up, lady Sabrina, " Lhea nudged her gently. 

She groans in irritation and rolls over to another side. 

Lhea picks a beautiful gown from the closet and puts that on the table. Sabrina is still snoring. 

"It's past seven, lady. Luna will not like it," Lhea points out.

That makes Sabrina open her eyes. She sits up and rubs her eyes while watching Lhea smoothening creases on her dress. 

" Happy Birthday," Lhea looked up and wishes her with a smile. 

"Thank you, Lhea," Sabrina replies but there is no happiness in her word. She knows what this birthday is about to bring for her. She couldn't sleep last night, pondering over her life that is going to change drastically after today. She is nervous and apprehensive. Fear of the unknown was quaking her heart. 

"You should take a bath as Luna and Alpha are waiting for you on the breakfast," Lhea tells her. 

Sabrina knows what her mother is going to discuss with her over breakfast. 

She takes a bath, put on the dress Lhea had laid out for her, and padded towards the dining hall. Her mother and her father were sitting in their usual spot.     

"Mother," she curtsied. Her mother rose from the chair as a smile spread across her face. She walked up to her only daughter and pulled her into a hug. 

"Happy Birthday, Rina," her eyes shining with motherly affection. 

"Thank you," Sabrina replied and pulled away. 

And in the next moment, her father held her in his arms. 

"You have grown up so fast. Happy Birthday, sunshine," she could hear a tinge of sadness in his voice. This was perhaps the last birthday she was going to celebrate with her family. 

The emotion ran high in the air as she remained huddled between her father and mother. They all had tears glistening in their eyes as they knew what was to come. 

Luna and Alpha showered all their love on their only daughter. Today was her last day here and they wanted it to be as special as possible. So another ball was organized in the castle that could also be termed as her farewell ball. 

Sabrina was on pins and needles throughout the day. She had learned that some of the royal people were going to attend the ball. And then they would take her to the Crown Prince who was living on the other side of the earth. 

She didn't feel an ounce of excitement when Lhea showed her the ball gown that was designed especially for her. She just faked a smile and asked her to place it on the bed. 

Her maids were right on time to get her groomed up for the ball. Her heartbeat accelerated as she realized that the moment she didn't want to face was nearing. 

What made it worse was the news that one of her maids brought. The troop had arrived and were settled in the guest wing of the castle.

She put her hand on her chest and tried to calm her racing heartbeat. The maid who was styling her hair gave her a pitying look.

Everybody knew.

Her father came to escort her to the ball. She didn't have many friends as people always treated her as a descendent of the moon goddess and not as a human. 

The alpha pecked her rosy cheek and looped her arm with his while walking her towards the ball where her future was.

"I am so proud of you, my child," Father told her as his eyes mirrored his word. They were glistening with pride.  

Sabrina nodded with a small smile as she couldn't fathom what to answer. Everything was weighing down on her heart. 

For her, this was it. Today was the day she is going to be sacrificed. 

It is indeed a blessing to be wedded with the future alpha king but her heart didn't want an Alpha King. Her heart wanted a mate just like every other werewolf.

Her heartbeat picked up pace when they neared the ballroom entrance. The sound of music echoed through the air.

Instinctively, she tightened her hold around his father. 

"Fret not, Sabrina. Everything will be fine," her father assured her. She listened to his father and tried to calm her racing nerves. But instead of settling down, her heartbeat kicked up a notch.

Her wolf started pacing restlessly. There was something in the air of the ballroom that triggered her wolf. She was jumping up and down, attempting to tear through her.  

"What is happening?" Sabrina muttered under her breath, confused as she propelled her feet forward. 

A scent hit her like an avalanche when she crossed the threshold of the hall. 

A scent, so intoxicating, so addicting. She inhaled deeply, filling her lungs with that delicious scent.

Mint and Pine!

Her senses got overwhelmed by the fragrance. 

Her wolf howled in exultation as though she had gotten the world. She forced her to look around. 

Sabrina's eyes darted across the hall in search of something. What, she doesn't know. 

But soon she realizes. 

Air knocks out of her lungs when her eyes catch the sight of him. The man standing by the table. 

Mate..Mate..Mate

Her wolf chanted like a madman as she stared at her mate with a shocked expression.
