Prologue: Dream

Whenever I dream, I can see a different person from a different point of view. I can't see their faces, there are unfamiliar places, strange events, unexplainable feelings. Everything inside a dream is weird. A dream can also be beautiful, but sometimes it turns into nightmares.

I have realized that I am inside my dream, I can see nothing in the extreme darkness but suddenly my crescent moon necklace shines. I saw a white door in the distance but it was stained with blood. It was scary to look at and I was hesitant to open it.

I could do nothing but open it, I don’t want to stay in the darkness. My body trembled as a strong wind greeted me. The place I entered was a forest. I was also surprised to notice that it was snowing. I looked at the white dress I was wearing and there was a blue cape behind my back. I made it a blanket because it was so cold.

There were light poles in the corners and I saw a pathway. I just walked while looking around, I was surprised to see a large house in the distance. It was like a haunted mansion, I would have to walk near there to enter but I was surprised that all the lights in the house went out. One by one the pole lights also disappeared. I felt scared and I stiffened in my stance when I heard weird noises.

I looked behind me and my eyes widened to see a man with a bloody face.

"I want your blood!" he said. I backed away when he take a step closer to me, his fangs were receding. He was a vampire. His eyes were very red and he would kill me. I quickly ran into the woods as I was chased by the vampire and I tried to get away from him for as long as I could. I was shocked when someone suddenly pulled me into the dark woods, I felt it holding my arms and my waist and I feel that I was leaning on a hard body of a man.

"Shh..don't make a noise if you don't want him to catch you," he whispered. I shivered in fear and the man behind me covered my mouth. We stayed hiding in a big tree, the place was also dark so hopefully, the vampire wouldn’t see us.

A few minutes later we stopped hiding, the man tried to hold my hands but I was afraid to go with him.

''Are you coming or do you want the vampire to chase you?'' he threatened so I immediately went with him. ''Don't scare me,'' I begged. "Okay, I'm leaving," he said but I stopped him. "I'll come with you," I said.

I don't want to be left alone here, I was still hesitant to come with him but I just fought my fear of trusting. I finally took his hand and he held my hand tightly as we walked in the middle of this forest. We walked through the dark forest, but he saw a lamp and it served as a light for us to see the way. It was dark here but I can't help but look at our intertwined hands.

"Who are you? W-why are you here in the forest? And why is there a vampire there? Are you also a vampire?" I asked. He didn't say a word so I came closer to him. "Hey! Can you hear me?" I asked. "Shut up, you have so many questions," he dictated, I noticed that he was wearing a white coat. He was a tall man and I couldn't see his face very well.

''Wait where are we going? '' I asked and he stopped and turned to me. "Can you just shut your mouth for a moment?" he said coldly. In the small ray of light, I could see the face of the man I'm with. He was handsome. ''I-I'm scared,'' I said. He walked closer to me and I felt his grip tighten on my hand even more.

Why I was scared at the moment when he let go of my hand?

''Don't be afraid, I'm with you. I won't break your trust,'' he said and we continued walking. In the middle of our walk in the dark and cold forest, I didn’t seem to be scared, because I have someone with me. Someone is holding my hand. I have so many questions on my mind right now but this guy won’t answer me.

A few minutes passes, I suddenly heard the sound of water in the distance. ''Take a look at the beautiful place that the forest hides,'' he said and my mouth was wide agape to see the beautiful view.

"Wow! I've only just seen a place like this," I said happily. I was amazed to see a waterfall and the full moon in the sky.

We walked to a rock and sat down. He set the lamp aside and looked at the scene as well. I looked at our hands remained clasped. "W-won't you let go of my hand?" I asked, and he looked at me and immediately let go of my hand. I sighed as I smiled and looked around.

"Umm..do you always come here?" I asked to break the silence. I saw that he nodded and he seemed shy to speak or he's just an introvert. "Hmm..by the way, w-why is there a vampire earlier, and who owned that haunted house?" I said while scratching my head. It was so scary to see that vampire, he was like Dracula.

''There are creatures that are scary, but don't be scared of them, because when they know you're scared, they'll take your blood,'' he said with mixed threats. My face turned sour and I was afraid that the vampire would take my blood.

''So don't be intimidated, fight them, you also can protect yourself,'' he said and I nodded. "I also know how to fight so I'll just kick their faces," I said while kicking in the air. I noticed that he laughed a little so my eyes widened.

"Oh did you laugh?!" I asked and quickly went back to being serious. "No," he denied. I seated on the rock beside him and I enjoyed watching the moon.

"Hmm..then why are you alone here?" I asked and I heard him sigh. "I'm not alone because you're here," he replied. I was taken aback and I smiled widely. He's appreciating my presence.

"Besides, why did you help me earlier?" I asked again. "You have lots of questions. It's tiring to answer. Well of course I'll help you because you're in trouble," he replied. I noticed that he was annoyed because I always asked so I better shut up.

“The moon is beautiful and the countless stars are also shining in the sky,” I said as I rubbed my arms. "Do you know that someone loves the moon?" he asked. My eyes widened and he seemed to want to talk. I grinned while looking at him. It was shocking that this introvert broke the silence.

"Hmm..who is that?" I asked. I noticed that he smiled a bit and looked at me. “The sun loves the moon,” he replied. I thought about it and put my palm on my face. "Hmm...my grandmother also told me something about the moon and the sun," I said and she looked at me.

"All right, so tell me about that story," he said. “My grandmother said that a long time ago the moon and sun were together, but there was a conflict between them, so time separated them, so the moon and sun never met again,” I recounted. He fell silent and suddenly smiled.

"The moon and the sun will meet, every time that there is an eclipse. The moon will embrace the sun, and they will cherish the moment," he added to my story so I smiled at him.

"How did you know about that story?" I asked and he look proud. “My dad also told me that story, and that’s my favorite story since I was a kid,” he said. “I like that too,” I said. We also saw fireflies appear around so it was even brighter.

"Do you know the story about the beauty of immortality?" he asked, I laughed a little when I realized that now he is always asking. This guy is weird. "I haven't heard that story, so share it with me," I said and he turned to me.

“I don’t know the whole story yet but what I found out in its prologue is that a girl had a dream and he met a boy in the woods,” he said and I nodded.

"And what happened next?" I said as I hugged myself because of the cold, to my surprise he first took off his coat and put it behind me.

“The other page of that book was lost, but I read on other pages that the man was a wolf while the woman was a human, the woman was scared to find out and shunned him,” he replied. I was also a bit surprised and even more curious about his story.

"The man had fought with a vampire and unfortunately it killed him, the woman he loved was very hurt when he disappeared. The man wished on a witch that he would be given a chance to live. The woman he loved was the witch and she sacrificed her life to keep the man alive," I felt a little sad about what he told me so I sighed.

"Did the man live and the woman die?" I asked. “The man came to life, the woman died but someone saved her life, a vampire came and brought her back to life,” he said and I was shocked.

"Who is that vampire?" I asked while stroking my hair. “That’s the werewolf’s rival in the heart of his beloved,” he replied.

"Did the vampire and the wolf fight to win that woman's heart?" I asked, he nodded and sighed.

“Yes, but the two men found out something that they were very surprised,” he said and that made me curious.

"What is that?" I asked. "The woman who is the witch used her magic, she opened a portal and they went inside a dimension," he stopped abruptly and looked at me.

“I didn’t know what happened next because the book was gone,” he said sadly and I grinned bitterly. "Ahh! I'm hooked on the story, after all, what do you think is the end of that story?" I asked and thought for a moment.

"Hmm..not all stories end happily ever after, sometimes there are stories that have a tragic end," he replied and I agreed. "What if someone dies among the protagonists in the story?" I asked as I thought about it.

"We don't know, it's like a human life we ​​don't know when our death comes, people will come and go, so let's appreciate our life while we're alive, if we are just immortal and live a long time, maybe that's too much fun, "I noticed the sadness in his voice.

"You alright?" I asked and looked at him. He nodded even though I noticed that he isn't. "Are you scared of some things?" I asked. "I'm scared of being alone," he replied. I took a deep breath and held his arm.

"You're not alone anymore, I'm here and I'm not leaving your side," I said and he looked me straight in the eye. "Don't promise, I'm used to being left behind," he said and the smile on my lips disappeared. "Don't you trust me?" he seemed worried and I don't know why. He maybe thought that I will leave.

"I trust you but I know you'll leave my side too," he replied and I couldn't explain the pain in my chest. "W-what do you mean?" I asked. He didn't say a word, our faces remained close. I could feel the heat of his breath and I could feel his grip on my waist, his right hand suddenly caressing my cheek. I didn't stop him and I don't understand why I am fluttered.

"Hopefully the next time we meet you won't leave my side," he said, and I felt that he was hoping for that. "You need to wake up my dear Adelaina," I heard him say, and suddenly kissed me on my lips.

My whole body went warm as I felt his lips press against me. I kept my eyes closed as I felt his kiss. My heart was pounding so hard that it seemed to explode.

I suddenly woke up and got out of bed. I gasped as I touched my lips. I remembered my dream and I thought that it was real. Even when I wake up I can feel the kiss of that man in my dream. I wanted to know about something but it's too late. I was just stunned by the absence as I recalled my beautiful dream.

What is beauty in immortality?
