Alpha Simpson summoned us into his office. He was the pack's Alpha.
While we made our way out of the hall, I beheld the carriage that was sent by the king. It was supposed to take the bride down to the palace.
My heart skipped a beat as we walked past it. King Muna never makes empty threats.
"Mr Oscar, this isn't a joke. King Muna will definitely massacre your whole family by this time tomorrow if you did not dance to his tune. He even sent an edict," Alpha Simpson said looking earnestly from my father to Becca.
"King Muna is unpredictable, if he gets angry, things might not end with your family alone. He could annihilate the whole pack." Alpha Simpson added, looking at Becca squarely.
"I will do it!" I screamed without thinking.
"Good radiance to bad rubbish!" Becca retorted scornfully.
"How dare you speak up! You unfilial and unpatriotic fool! You would rather prefer that everyone get killed, right?" Alpha Simpson yelled in his alpha voice and we all shivered.
Becca flinched, she bowed her head and couldn't look up.
"Are you sure you are up for this? If you are not, do not make yourself a sacrificial lamb. Becca is the eldest and the obligation is hers. If she is not willing, I can order her to do it," Alpha Simpson said in a more gentle tone and silence fell.
I looked at my step mother who glared at me with hateful eyes. She obviously wanted her daughter to become part of the royal family even if it meant getting married to a useless prince.
I glanced at my father who looked blank.
Skylar was quiet, she was still hurting over Stanley's rejection. I haven't got over it either, but here is a more pressing issue, survival comes first.
Luna Katherine had a cryptic smile on her face and Alpha Simpson was as stoic as ever.
"I will do it," I said confidently.
"You saved us all," Alpha Simpson said and tension washed off his face.
"Let's get you prepared," Luna Katherine said and we all exited Alpha Simpson's office.
I stared at the royal carriage again as I made my way out.
Alpha Simpson led the way. He beckoned Becca to leave whilst he led me and my parents down to the carriage.
His guards opened the carriage and there were gifts and clothes from the royal family.
"The king must have bestowed the apparels to the bride. He wants you to show up dressed in them," Luna Katherine offered and smiled ruefully.
Just as I turned around to leave, my gaze fell on Stanley. He was peeking from behind one of the almond trees around Alpha Simpson's office.
He looked at me with disdain, he looked hurt and gloomy.
My heart squeezed in pain again. "You rejected me, I am the one in pain," I mind synced with him.
"And now, you are off to marry a useless prince all because you wanted to become one of the royal family. I never knew you were so ambitious!" He yelled.
"What!?" I yelled in disbelief. I couldn't imagine that Becca, who left our company a few minutes ago, had ran her mouth again.
Well, those two should go to hell. None of them is worth salvation.
I made my way to my room to tidy things up.
"I am doing this to ensure everyone's safety," I said to myself as I made up my mind.
Soon, my father, Luna Katherine and her attendants walked in.
"I know, you can do this… but I will miss you. I wanted to keep you by my side where I will continue to see your face. I missed your mother so badly," my father said and hugged me tightly.
"We have to be fast with this. The palace is far," Luna Katherine's voice boomed from the background and slowly my father pulled me out of his embrace. He patted my shoulder and gave me a reassuring look as he walked out of the room.
Luna Katherine's attendant got busy and in no time, I was dolled up.
I was dressed up in the traditional apparels that were gifted to me. It was a heavy regalia and I needed help to be able to walk in it.
It was time to go and I was led down to the royal carriage.
Few of my friends accompanied me. They all looked gloomy and some were in tears.
My father and Alpha Simpson walked side by side as they discussed. Becca and her mother were nowhere to be found. Stanley wasn't around either.
"I am not going to die. I am getting married," I said to my company as I was ready to leave.
They waved at me and the carriage kicked off. Alpha Simpson's guards were the ones who carried the carriage.
The sun had set when we made it to the palace. It was a long journey.
The palace maids were already waiting, it was as if they were expecting my arrival.
They helped me out of the carriage and I had a good look.
I was awestruck as I beheld the beauty of the palace. It was a large property and I couldn't see the end of its walls.
King Muna's palace sat in the middle of the property. It was outstandingly beautiful.
The maids took me slowly through different passageways and finally we were standing at the entrance of the throne room.
Dread filled my heart as I waited. I have never been around the royals before.
A strong aura filtered through my body. It was stronger than Alpha Simpson's aura. Cold shivers ran down my spine and I fidgeted as I waited for the king's order.
"Lead her in!" The king's voice came at last.
The maids lifted my regalia and helped me in. As soon as we got in, they bowed in greetings and left immediately.
I did likewise. I bowed my head in obeisance and knotted before the king. Two maids that served the king directly walked towards me. They held me by my arms as I fell on my knees and made the last round of greetings.
I remained on my knees while the maids returned to their position.
"How dare you defy my orders?" The king said coldly and I shivered.
"Lift up your head!" He ordered.
I lifted my head slowly to behold the coldest gaze I had ever seen. The king looked down at me with disdain and fury.
He aura in the throne room was stronger than what I felt outside. I felt weak and my knees gave way. I broke my gaze from the king as I swayed to the side.
"Lead her down to Prince Regan's palace," He ordered.
Two eunuchs rushed out and lifted me up. I swayed from side to side as they led me away.
"My prince! We are here with your bride; Ashley Oscar," one of the eunuchs announced. "Let her in!" a cold voice ordered with authority. The door opened and closed almost immediately as the eunuchs took their leave. Right inside the room, I felt the strong aura I had felt while I was with the king. Although it wasn't as intense as the king's, it was strong enough to make me shrink. My head remained bowed as I waited for my fate. "How dare you make a prince wait! I waited for your arrival for days," An angry voice emanated from a corner of the room. Silence fell and I remained in my position. How could I tell him that I am not the original but a substitute. Revealing as much as that could jeopardize my effort. Suddenly, a low and muffled sound of pleasure hit the room. It was followed by a loud smacking of lips, chuckles and moans. "Lift up your head," the prince said in between moans. I lifted up my head and staggered backwards in shock as I beheld the prince. On his lap was a
Prince Regan"Giddy up!" I yelled as soon as I settled on Maximus; my best horse. It neighed and I smiled.I fastened my disguise and held Maximus' reins."Giddy up!" My shadow guard yelled from behind me.Both horses surged forward and galloped into the wild. With our wolves' eyes peering into the dark night, we guided our horses down the uneven terrain that leads into one of Coleen's most sacred forests. My two swords nested in a quiver strapped to one of my sides. Although my shadow guard is capable, I was not ready to take chances. My mind was not at ease which was unusual, although the reason wasn't far fetched. I just got married.Maya, my bride could bump into my chambers even without requesting for her. And as a matter of fact, she can't discover my secrets, she is one of my enemies.Marrying an enemy is like sleeping on coals of fire but I damned the consequences and did it for a greater course."Giddy up!" I yelled again and Maximus obeyed. I had to return to the palace as s
Ashley’s POV, Falling and rising, I stumbled through the pack house to my apartment. I staggered in and slumped on the floor, hugging my regalia. My heart was shattered into a million pieces. The fact that Prince Regan had treated me like garbage and placed a curse on me made me hate myself. I remembered Becca's betrayal and Stanley's rejection. What’s more? My mate even called me a whore. The pain I felt in my heart was so raw. I hit my chest repeatedly and howled as I cried my lungs out. I cried myself into a stupor and at some point, I slept off. When I woke up, it was dawn. I felt so weak and miserable. I dragged myself up, and my knees almost buckled as I made my way to the comfort room. I saw myself in the mirror and gasped. My eyes were sour and red. My hair was disheveled, I was a total mess. I made up my mind not to shed any more tears. I washed my face and packed my hair into a messy bun but I still look so disoriented and out of place. It was a new day and I w
Regan’s POV, I was still seated in the carriage when Simpson; the pack's Alpha showed up. He had an air of arrogance about him, one which I wouldn't condone."You are welcome, my Prince. It must have been a tough journey. I am ashamed that one of my pack members put you through the rigor of traveling down the uneven terrain of Collen," Simpson said, bowing his head."Insolence! Mockery!" I yelled down at him and beckoned my guards to help me out of the carriage."I am sorry my Prince…" Simpson said and I smirked. As my clutches were passed to me, one of my guards attempted to help me stand on the clutches. I balanced my gait firmly and struck him on the head with one of the crutches"How dare you!?""I deserve to die!" He fidgeted and fell to his knees with blood streaming down his face."Gather everyone, a royal edict is here," I said to Simpson as I hopped along."They are waiting at your command, my Prince," Simpson said and I hopped on, ignoring him.I turned around and I noticed
Regan’s POV, Ashley's cold grip on my leg sent shivers down my spine. The feeling was alien, but I ignored it. I smashed her bloody hands on the floor and balanced on my clutches. With my shoulders held high, I limped out of the hall without looking back. My guards filed out right behind me and behind them were Simpson and his guards. Everyone shuddered and kept mute like they had just seen a ghost. A subtle smile spread across my face and I felt accomplished. Simpson and his guards bowed while I settled into my carriage. My guards filed up on either side of the carriage and we proceeded out of the territory of the Moonlight Pack. The journey back to the palace was more hectic than I had thought, but I wasn't deterred, I made someone a scapegoat already. The news will travel far and wide, and no one will despise me anymore. I’m a damn prince! Slowly, the carriage descended and we journeyed into the woods. It was Twilight when we approached the palace. My face contorted into
Ashley’s POV, My eyes fluttered open, and all I saw was darkness. My mouth was dry and my body was sore. A painful moan escaped my throat but couldn't escape from my chapped lips. I was weak and I could barely move. My vision was blurry and I blinked my eyes, repeatedly. Gradually, my vision became clear, but even at that, I couldn’t get a sense of anything. I was in a light plain gown, laying on something hard, perhaps a wooden bed. Attempting to adjust myself, I pricked my sore skin and moaned weakly.Immediately, someone dashed towards me and that was my father. ‘Ashley!”His gloomy eyes pierced into my soul as he whispered my name hoarsely. “Are you alright? Are you alright?” Anxiously he started checking me out, obviously relieved to see me awake. My gaze settled on my stepmother and beside her was Becca. They were both snarling at me which isn’t something new, but the new and puzzling question is 'what I’m doing here in a strange room? How did I end up here?'I gazed back
Ashley’s POV,It was a sunny morning. The rosy hues of the sun were seeping through the window. I had always hated mornings but today, I was terrified of it. I wondered what will become of me. "What exactly is my fate?" I questioned myself and tried to get through to Skylar, but she was mute. “Skylar?” I mumbled softly several times but she zoned me out and I needed no one to tell me she was angry. Sighing sadly, I looked over at Rossie who was sleeping awkwardly beside me. She was sitting on a pew, resting her head on my bed while her hair sprawled on her face. She was snoring heavily like the night was just starting. A chuckle broke out of my lips as I adjusted her properly. I felt bad for depriving her of her sleep last night. I had cried like a suckling toddler while she stuck by my side. For the next few moments, I got busy checking out my bruises. Different weird thoughts hit me as I trailed my fingers over the sores. The sores look no different from yesterday, it was st
My eyes adjusted to the sun as soon as I was out in the open. A crowd had gathered and they were waiting; waiting to scorn me.Yes, it is the trend in Moonlight Pack. Everyone is always on the lookout for the initiation, anytime anyone is demoted to a slave. This is a typical initiation. I had become a spectacle. The reality of my new status hit me hard as I stared into the mocking face of the crowd.Becca and her mother were at the forefront. My father was not in sight, Stanley wasn't in sight either, but I could feel his presence."Ahh!" I yelled as a whip descended on my shoulder. "Move!" One of the guards ordered and lashed me again. At the second whip, my dress tore exposing my flesh and a great part of my left breast. There was nothing to be ashamed of, Prince Regan already stripped me naked the previous day.My senses seemed to have become dull to pain. I was whipped at intervals and I barely felt the pain until I saw blood flowing down my dress."You look delicious, baby,"
