Chapter seven

Selene’s pov

After Logan left the sitting room to go see his mother, I sat there feeling a bit confused and unsettled. Part of me still couldn't quite believe what he had said about us potentially being true mates according to the goddess. How could that be possible? Surely there had been some mistake.

I got up and wandered into one of the bedrooms, needing space to sort through my jumbled thoughts and emotions. Sinking down onto the edge of the bed, I closed my eyes and tried to calm my racing heart.

"Ezra?" I called out tentatively. "Are you there? I need your counsel."

There was a brief shimmer in the air before my spirit guardian materialized before me. The ethereal she-wolf regarded me kindly with those ancient, knowing eyes.

"What troubles you, my friend?" Her voice was warm and soothing in my mind.

I twisted my hands nervously in my lap. "It's Logan. He...he says the goddess has blessed us as true mates." I shook my head slowly. "But how can that be? After everything with Nathan..."

Ezra made a soft rumbling sound. "Selene, you know the words of the goddess are sacred truth. If she has chosen Logan as your eternally bonded mate, you must have faith."

"But Nathan was my mate!" I burst out, feeling foolish at the shakiness in my voice. "We were together for so long...I loved him. How could he betray me by choosing Mia instead and accusing me, getting me banished?"

The spirit wolf's expression was full of sadness and compassion. "What Nathan did, turning against you and our pack in such a dishonorable way, it broke the sacred bond between you. You are no longer tied to him in the eyes of the goddess."

Hot tears pricked my eyes as the hurt and betrayal welled up again within me. Nathan had shattered my heart and sense of self when he cast me aside for that vile Mia. Even thinking his name made my stomach twist with nausea.

"But what if...what if he comes back?" My voice trembled with fear I could not contain. "What if he tries to take me again?"

"You need nothing to worry about Nathan any longer," Ezra said firmly. "The goddess has moved on and selected Logan as your new mate. You would do well to embrace this second chance at love and happiness."

I wrapped my arms around myself, feeling small and afraid. What would the others think if I took up with Logan so soon after my traumatic split from Nathan? They might think me fickle or disloyal.

"But what will everyone say? They may not understand..."

Ezra let out a soft whuffing breath. "Do not trouble yourself over the opinions of others , Dear. Follow your heart, and those who truly care for you will accept the goddess's wishes."

Her gentle reassurance helped soothe some of the turmoil inside me. She was right - I knew the sacred laws and could not deny the goddess's divine rulings, no matter my own hesitations or insecurities.

Perhaps Logan could be the light I needed to fully heal my shattered spirit...

I had just opened my mouth to respond to Ezra when there was a sudden commotion outside the room. The bedroom door flew open and a blurred figure rushed inside, moving too fast for me to make out any details.

Before I could react, something was pressed firmly over my mouth and nose, the sickeningly sweet scent overwhelming my senses. I tried to cry out, to fight back, but my limbs quickly became heavy and uncooperative. Dark spots began dancing across my vision.

The last things I saw were Ezra's horrified expression and the strange figure looming over me, their face obscured behind the dark cloth covering. Then everything faded to black as an endless night closed in around me.

I don't know how long the inky oblivion lasted. All I knew was fear and the desperate need to wake up from this terrible nightmare I seemed to be trapped in…

Chapter 129: SanctuaryLogan's POVThe morning sun barely broke through the thick forest canopy as we traveled deeper into the ancient woods. I kept my eyes sharp, scanning for any sign of danger. My wolf senses were on high alert. The small group of guards I'd chosen followed close behind us, their faces tense and watchful.Selene rode beside me, her silver hair gleaming even in the dim light. Her hand rested on her swollen belly, a protective gesture that made my heart ache with love. Our child - our miracle - growing stronger each day despite the darkness hunting us."Are you sure about this?" I asked, keeping my voice low. "We could turn back. Find another way to protect the baby."Selene's violet eyes met mine, filled with a determination I'd come to know well. "We have to do this, Logan. My mother wouldn't suggest it if there was another option."I nodded, swallowing my doubts. Ever since Selene's mother had appeared and revealed the existence of this sanctuary, I'd felt uneasy.

Chapter 128: Blood TiesSelene's POVThe morning sun streamed through the window, warming my face as I sat in the council chamber. My back ached from the wooden chair, my swollen belly making it hard to find a comfortable position. The baby kicked, a strong little thump that made me smile despite the tension in the room."The northern settlement was completely destroyed," Alpha Darius was saying, his voice tight with anger and grief. "Seventeen dead, including five pups."My smile faded. The shadowy creatures that had attacked three nights ago had left nothing but death in their wake. The first real strike of the darkness my child had warned us about."And you're certain these weren't vampires?" Alpha Marius asked, his tone skeptical as always. Even after everything that had happened, he still doubted.Darius slammed his fist on the table. "I know what vampires look like! These were... something else. Like living shadows with red eyes. They moved through walls like they weren't even t

Chapter 127: Shadows RisingSelene's POVI woke up with a start, my heart pounding in my chest. Something was wrong. I could feel it in the air, like a heavy weight pressing down on me. The baby kicked inside me, as if sharing my unease."Shh, little one," I whispered, rubbing my swollen belly. "It's okay."But it wasn't okay. The feeling of dread had been growing stronger for days now, ever since our child had spoken those chilling words in my mind. The darkness returns. But this time, we will be ready.I slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Logan. He needed his rest. The council meetings had been running longer each day, with more and more reports of strange happenings throughout our united territories. The cool wooden floor felt good under my bare feet as I padded to the window. Outside, the moon hung low and full in the sky, bathing our lands in silver light. It should have been beautiful, peaceful. But something about it felt off, like the light itself was strained, fighting a

Chapter 126: First WordsSelene's POVThe moonlight streamed through our bedroom window, painting silver patterns across the floor. My heart still raced from what had just happened. I sat on the edge of our bed, my hands trembling as they rested on my swollen belly."Logan," I whispered, my voice shaking. "Tell me you heard it too. Tell me I'm not going crazy."Logan knelt before me, his blue eyes wide with shock and wonder. His strong hands covered mine on my belly, and I could feel the slight tremble in his touch. "I heard it, Selene. Our baby... our baby spoke to you."Relief washed over me, followed immediately by a fresh wave of fear. I wasn't imagining things. Our unborn child had actually communicated with me, had warned me about a coming darkness. The same darkness we thought we'd defeated."What do we do?" I asked, searching Logan's face for answers. "The darkness returns. But this time, we will be ready." Those were the exact words I'd heard in my mind, clear as day. Not the

Chapter 125: New EraSelene's POVThe morning light streamed through the window, painting golden patterns across our bed. I watched Logan sleep, his face peaceful in a way it rarely was when he was awake. The weight of leadership had carved lines around his eyes over the years, but in sleep, he looked almost young again. Like the wolf who found me bleeding and broken in the forest all those seasons ago.My hand drifted to my swollen belly, feeling our child move beneath my palm. Such a miracle, this little one. A child of prophecy, born of two packs once bitter enemies. The silver markings on my skin glowed faintly in response to my touch, a reminder of the power that flowed through my veins. Power I once feared, but now embraced."Good morning, little one," I whispered, smiling as a tiny foot or hand pushed against my palm. "Today's a big day for all of us."The Council of Alphas had made their decision yesterday. After hours of debate, after seeing the vision our child had shown the

Chapter 124: Council of AlphasLogan's POVThe morning sun peeked through the trees as I stood at the edge of the sacred clearing. My heart hammered in my chest, not from fear but from the weight of what was about to happen. Today would change everything. The Council of Alphas hadn't met in over a hundred years, not since the Great War that split our kind into separate territories. Now, they were all coming together because of us. Because of our child.I glanced back at our pack house where Selene was getting ready. My beautiful, strong mate. The mother of the miracle growing inside her. A smile tugged at my lips despite my nerves. How did I get so lucky?"You're thinking about her again," Nathan's voice came from behind me.I didn't turn around. Didn't need to. His scent - pine and smoke - was unmistakable now. Still strange to think of him as an ally after everything that happened."Hard not to," I admitted, keeping my eyes on the horizon where the first alphas would appear soon.Na
