Darius’s POV

The council chamber still reeked of incense when I returned, though the fire in the braziers had burned low. Elder Hanor sat hunched near the end of the table, his hands knotted tight on his staff, while the others argued in circles.

I barely heard them. My mind was still in the forest.

Amara’s face, pale with strain. The shadows writhing at her wrist. The rogue standing too close, speaking words that should never have touched her ears.

And her voice , quiet, ragged, but unflinching when she said: I can’t afford not to trust him.

The memory twisted in my chest like a blade.

“She’s already slipping,” one of the commanders was saying. “We all saw the mark burn in the chamber. She’s a danger to every wolf here.”

“And yet she’s still here,” Mira cut in sharply, arms folded. “Still fighting for us. If you’d watched her bleed as I have, you’d choke on those words before you spoke them.”

The commander sneered. “What if the next blood she spills is ours?”

Their voices clashed, bu

  • BETRAYED BY THE MOON    Chapter 74 : The Trial of Eyes

Amara’s POVThe murmurs didn’t die when Darius’s voice did. They followed me through the courtyard, a tide of whispers swelling louder until the council bell tolled. The sound rang heavy through stone and air alike, summoning every elder, every commander, every wolf whose doubts had already been sharpened into knives.I hadn’t even washed the dirt of the forest from my skin before they dragged me into the chamber. This time, no incense. No prayers. Just fire burning in the braziers and the smell of smoke clinging to cloaks and fur. The room was full to bursting , not only the council but warriors and servants pressed against the walls, craning for a glimpse. They wanted a spectacle.Elder Hanor leaned forward on his staff, his face gaunt, his voice thin but sharp. “You left the walls again. Alone.”“I was not alone,” I said evenly. The ripple of shock was immediate. They knew who I meant without me speaking his name.A commander slammed his palm against the table. “The Forsaken!” His

Chapter 73 – The Eyes That FollowAmara’s POVThe stronghold gates loomed like stone jaws waiting to close on me. By the time I reached them, dawn had broken, staining the sky in bruised shades of violet and gold. The guards stiffened as I approached, their eyes flicking to the mark uncovered on my wrist. It pulsed faintly, steady and controlled, nothing like the wild blaze it had been before. But instead of reassurance, I saw only unease in their gazes. They let me pass without a word. Silence was sharper than steel.Inside the courtyard, the world was already awake. Warriors drilled in formation, steel ringing against steel. Yet as I walked through them, the rhythm faltered. Movements slowed. Eyes tracked me, not with open hostility, but with something worse , wariness. They sensed it. The difference. The shadows no longer trailed uncontrolled from my steps, yet the air still thickened around me, humming with power. My body felt heavier, stronger, as though the forest had stitched s

  • BETRAYED BY THE MOON    Chapter 72: The Forsaken’s Truth

Chapter 72– The Forsaken’s TruthAmara’s POVThe dust of the shattered Forsaken still hung in the clearing, drifting like ash. My body shook, breath ragged, but the mark pulsed steady now, calmer than it had ever been.I turned on the rogue, anger sparking hotter than fear. “You used me as bait.”His scarred mouth curved faintly, though his eyes never wavered. “I gave you a choice. Fight or fall. You chose to fight.”“You called that thing,” I hissed. My nails dug into my palms. “You summoned it. What if I hadn’t controlled it? What if it had broken me?”“Then you would have died,” he said simply. “Better to learn the truth here, under the moon, than when Lilith sends ten thousand against your gates.”His calmness made me want to strike him. “Why?” I demanded, stepping closer. “Why help me at all? You said it yourself, you’re Forsaken. You should be with them, with her.”For the first time, something flickered across his scarred face. Not anger. Not mockery. Pain.“I was with her,” he

  • BETRAYED BY THE MOON    Chapter 71 : Trial by Shadows

Amara’s POVThe forest air was colder tonight.Mist clung to my skin as I followed the rogue through the trees, my breath fogging in the moonlight. Every step felt heavier than the last, not because of the path, but because of the silence I’d left behind.Darius hadn’t spoken to me after last night. Not a word, not a glance that wasn’t carved from stone. He hadn’t stopped me when I slipped away again, but the weight of his silence pressed harder than any chain the council could forge. The rogue led me to a hollow where the earth had split long ago. Jagged rocks jutted upward like broken teeth, the ground beneath choked with roots and shadows. The air smelled of rot and old magic.“This is where we test you,” he said simply. My fingers curled. “Test me how?”He crouched, pressing his scarred hand to the soil. His voice lowered, steady, almost reverent. “Lilith isn’t the only one who can call the dead.”The earth shuddered. My stomach lurched as the ground split wider, roots snapping li

  • BETRAYED BY THE MOON    Chapter 69 : Taming the Darkness

Amara’s POVThe forest was a cathedral of silence.Mist curled low along the ground as the rogue led me deeper between the trees, every step away from the packhouse twisting my stomach tighter. Darius’s presence still lingered in the back of my mind , the echo of his hand on mine, the fury in his voice when I chose this path. But I couldn’t turn back now.The rogue stopped in a clearing where the moonlight broke through, pale and cold. His scars looked sharper in that light, his golden eyes almost too bright.“Take off the bandage,” he said.I glanced down at my wrist. I had kept it wrapped, as though cloth could silence the mark’s pulse. Slowly, I unwound it, baring the crescent etched into my skin. It glowed faintly, veins of shadow spidering from its curve like cracks in glass. The rogue watched, unreadable. “Good. Now call it.”My throat tightened. “Call what?”He stepped closer, his voice low, even. “The part of you you’ve been running from. Stop pretending it isn’t there. Stop s
