Chapter 4: Ditch
STEPHAN “Isn’t that low life girl that you kicked out now the one that saved your life, Stephan?” Claude, the son of one of my father’s betas asked and laughed loudly. What? My eyes narrowed. I turned back to take another look at the weird girl that just accosted me out of nowhere but she was nowhere to be found, she must have taken off. Wait, was that the girl that saved my life with her blood? No way… Claude must have been pulling my legs. “Haha, very funny Claude, you have outdone yourself this time around!” I was not smiling. Claude looked at me with disbelief, “Wait, don’t tell me you don’t even know who saved you?” he chuckled. I stifled a growl, was he being serious right now? I looked back again, in a faint hope that I would catch another glimpse of her but she was gone. The party was back to full boom now and people were swaying and bobbing to the beat with plastic cups in their hands. If I saw her again, would I even recognize her? I doubted it. “Wow, Stephan, that’s another level even for you,” Claude added. “Shut your mouth and go get me another drink!” I barked at him. Claude giggled and then bowed mockingly, “Yes my alpha… to be.” He laughed out loud and then ran off. No one else would have gotten away with that but Claude was like a brother to me, we had been tight since childhood. “Baby!” a worried voice came from behind. I turned around. “I warned you not to go, didn't I? I told you I had a bad feeling about it, now look at you,” Vanessa put hands on my face and began turning it from side to side, her eyes wide with worry. I grabbed her fingers and slowly brought her hands away from my face, “I am fine, okay… good as new, didn’t even leave a scar!” “Liar, let me see!” she pouted. A naughty sneer formed on my lips, “You just want to see me naked,” I said. “Oh please! Like I haven’t already seen it all before,” she slapped my arm playfully, “Show me!” I hiked up my shirt and pointed to my side which had a long lethal injury not so long ago, “See, no scar… Whoever that girl was, her blood healed me up so well.” Vanessa was staring at me and frowning, “Well, whoever she was, I’m sure your dad settled her fairly, you don’t have to be drooling about it!” I sighed and dropped my shirt down, “I’m not drooling!” If that was really the girl that saved me, then I had fucked up badly with the way I treated her. I needed to remedy that. “So what happened? How did you get injured,” Vanessa was still looking at me, she slowly grabbed and squeezed my hand bringing me away from my thoughts back to the party and her. “I’m sure you have heard all about it from Sophia and the rest of the gossips you call friends.” “That’s not a nice thing to say about my girls,” she pouted. I sneered, “I didn’t lie, did I?” “I want to hear it from you,” she said, avoiding the question. “It was supposed to be a routine hunt but then we were attacked by warlocks, I got injured in the attack.” “Is that all? C’mon Stephan you always do this!” “What? What more do you want to know?” I raised my hands in gesticulation. “You are the alpha’s son, no ordinary person can give you such an injury, what really happened.” I walked past her then stopped, “I don’t know what you want me to say, Nessa. Maybe I got careless.” She nodded, “Maybe you got careless…” she repeated, “Fine, be that way,” she turned and bumped into me as she stormed off. “Hey Nessa,” Claude waved as he approached with two plastic cups. She ignored him and kept walking. He whistled after her, checking her out before looking at me, he shook his head, “I don’t know why they keep coming back, I mean, what do they see in you?” He handed me a cup. I took it and downed it quickly, “Was that really her, man?” “Who? Oh, you mean your savior? Yeah man… that was really her!” “Damn it!” I clenched my fist, “You should have told me, man!” “Chill, she is a nobody, why are you getting worked up?” Claude was right, by her clothes and the way she carried herself, she was a nobody, why was I getting worked up? “I need to find her, man,” I said, handing the empty cup back to him and taking his drink. He scoffed, then looked at me, his eyes narrowed, “You are serious?” There was a sudden surge within me and then my heart started beating intently, my breath became labored. Claude got to me in seconds, “What’s wrong man, you are scaring me.” I held onto his shoulder for support, “I have to find her!” I repeated and then pushed him aside and stumbled out of the party. “Stephan!” Claude shouted after me for a while but when I didn’t stop he gave up. I didn’t know what it was, it felt like I was scared, my body was showing symptoms of fear but my mind was telling me that there was nothing around to be scared of, what the hell was going on? All I knew despite the disconnection between my mind and body was that I needed to find that girl… I could feel it, the answers that I needed lay with her. A gust of wind blew and with it came a strange scent. I caught a whiff of it, it was feminine, I could tell and I had a strong feeling that it was hers and that it would lead me to her. So I began following it, moving as fast as I could. I came just in time to see her talking with a tall… handsome gentleman. I paused in the woods and looked on. He was standing too close to her, for some reason, it made my blood boil. “From today, you are mine,” he said to her. Before I could process what that meant, he kissed her under the moonlight!151 - A STEP CLOSER TO THE GOALDAMON POV“Is it over?” Rebekka whispered. There was dust everywhere and everyone was sprawled on the floor. My eyes quickly darted to where the Wendigo had been. All that was left was a dark scorch mark on the floor. “I guess so,” I said tightly as I got up.“Damn it!” Stephan growled as he too got up, “There is nothing left…”“Yeah, no shit,” I chipped in.“How am I going to explain all this to the alpha… how can I blame Vane when there isn’t any Vane left?”“I’m sorry,” Rebekka said.I rolled my eyes and then sighed loudly, “Fuck you man. She saves your life and you don’t even thank her?”“Damon, not now,” Rebekka said, turning to face me.“Of course, you would jump to his rescue,” I faced her.Stephan dropped to his knees, once again, his lips as well as his finger tips were blue – once again the bastard had escaped death.Claude just stood there silently watching the day break, “Tonight will be the Winter Solstice Festival. We have to let them kno
150 – A PATH IN THE CHAOSTHIRD PERSON POVThe tremendous shockwave didn’t just hit, Rebekka, Stephan, Damon and Claude, a small pulse of it shot far past the borders of the half-moon pack and travelled miles until it reached Lady Cecile who was soaking in a hot tub in their new hideout. Thanks to Stephan finding out their last headquarters, the witches had to move again and this was not something that Lady Cecile was happy about and that was why she beset the Wendigo on Stephan and all those he held dear.If things worked out the way they were supposed to, it should have killed all his friends and then killed Stephan, if luck was also on their side, it should have also killed the Luna and the alpha. But Lady Cecile knew that the beast being able to kill alpha Micheal was a bit of a stretch and she was just satisfied with it taking his beloved heir from him after making him witness all his friends die.Damon had unwittingly supplied her the perfect candidate to conduct the spell with,
149 – ICE COLD HEARTS AND FLOWING BLOODREBEKKA POVLord Stephan was pacing back and forth in the lobby of the clinic when I came to meet him. I was glad that he was looking much better than he was in the morning.“Damon filled me in on how to neutralize the creature, we have a plan to trap him, all we need now is your blood,” he said.“Okay… how are you feeling?” I asked, my face was twisted with worry. Everything that he just said flew in one ear and out the other. His gaze softened, “I am fine, Rebekka, we will talk all about it after it is done, okay? Right now, I need a vial of your blood.”I sighed deeply, “I have to come with you,” I said.“What?” he stared at me in confusion, “No, all we need is your blood, you don’t need to be there.”“Actually…” I reached for the book where Damon found the Wendigo and flipped the pages and showed it to him, “It states that the Blood of the Goddess needs to drop directly from the pulsing vein to the beating heart of the beast.”His eyes scann
148 – CATCHING A WENDIGODAMON POV“Commander Vane? What did he do? What is going on?” Claude was staring at Stephan with suspicion in his eyes.He did not seem to have gotten over the fact that Stephan was all bruised and fucked up.“Are you coming along or are you going to stand there asking plenty questions?” I asked impatiently. The sooner we found Vane, the quicker we could put this whole mess behind us. The only good opportunity that this situation provided for me for the chance to pin all the spy stuff on Vane’s head.He was in no position to defend himself and besides, it all fit perfectly in a neat bow but Stephan’s suspicious ass was not buying it entirely. “Damon is right,” Stephan said, “Let’s get moving.”Claude and I exchanged a look of surprise, “I am right?” I asked in surprise, “Wow, look who is now agreeing with me.”“Shut it!” Stephan barked, “You are only here because we need you to find your chief, you know him best, where would he go to hide.”I shrugged, “No i
147 – TRACKERS STEPHAN POVNo, no, no, there was no way that that creature was Vane, it was not possible.Vane was as loyal as they came, no way he was running around killing comrades and members of my pack. But Damon could not be making that up, he was an ass but he was not stupid, he knew the cost of such an accusation and besides, he seemed to be aware of the fact that silver blades were fucking useless against that thing.“We have to get you to the clinic,” Rebekka was saying.I ignored her, “You saw it yourself?” I asked Damon. He scoffed, “Guess you experienced what I did, just way worse,” he looked me over, “You couldn’t kill it, could you?”I gnashed my teeth, one whole night spent going from the hunter to the hunted, I came closer to losing my life last night than I did to stopping that creature. The thought that it was still out there, drove me insane.“It is worse than you think,” Damon said.I winced as I struggled to my feet, no way I was going to sit on my ass and have
146 – LIES AS TRUTH REBEKKA POV“Yes, you were right, your blood can break the curse,” he continued to speak.A wave of relief washed over me, I was right, he knew all along, “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get out there.”“Did you listen to anything that I told you? I stuck him with a silver dagger in the heart and it didn’t slow him down.”“Yes,” I said eagerly, “You just said that my blood can break the curse, let’s use it to do so.”Damon squinted as he stared at me, “Have you ever been in a fight before? Vane or the Wendigo is not exactly going to sit there waiting for you to come cure it. We should wait until the day when he is back in his human form, then he will be easier to deal with.”“No, we cannot do that,” I snapped, “Lord Stephan is out there right now, that monster is hurting him and if what you said is true, he has no way to kill it.”Damon still remained unfazed but there was a faraway look in his eyes, “If the alpha son is anything like I think he is, he would
