MAEVE'S POV

The music was an electric current on my body.

I always loved to dance, and right now, it was taking my mind off that arrogant jerk of an alpha.

Declan Hayes.

Even right now, I could feel his eyes on me. I could feel his hungry gaze devouring me through the clothing. Or maybe I was just paranoid. It didn't matter. He made me feel out of character.

I wanted to slap him and kiss him. I wanted to grind my body against him. I wanted to mark him in bites so everyone who saw him knew he had been claimed by me. Crazy. I was going crazy.

I stumbled off the dance floor and went outside. The jocks had a bonfire going, and they were chugging beer. I walked towards the table where the drinks were on and grabbed myself a bottle.

Beer always tasted off, until you were drunk, then you never wanted it to end. I heard a familiar laughter and looked up to find Alana all cozied up with a cute nerdy boy. She was dragging him towards me, and he was letting her.

“Hey Alana. Who do you have here?”

She looked up at him with puppy dog eyes, and he gave her an equally goofy smile. Oh boy.

“This is Kyle. Kyle, meet Maeve, my roommate and friend.”

The boy extended a hand to me and I shook it. “Nice to meet you, Kyle.”

“Likewise, Maeve.”

A caught a whiff of his scent and raised a brow in surprise. He was an alpha. Looking at him, I wouldn’t have guessed that, but I guess looks can really be deceiving. He held himself with an air of importance. Like nothing could touch him. I liked that. I looked at him and Alana together and smiled.

He stood a head taller than her, as her head rested perfectly where his shoulders were. He had strawberry blonde hair, and a drey eyes. Alana had red hair with green eyes. They matched too well. I was happy, at least someone was having a great time tonight.

“So, Maeve. Gotcha.” I groaned before I turned around.

Declan was leaning against the table, and he had an arrogant smirk on his face that I wanted to smack away. He was too annoying to be so beautiful. Really.

His dark hair was cut short, and he’d tussled it in a way that made it seem he just got out of bed. His dark eyes stared at me hungrily, and I knew the same hunger was reflected on my face. I found him attractive. Sue me.

“So now you know my name. Yippee.”

“Won’t you introduce me to your friends?”

Alana raised a brow at me and I shrugged. Might as well.

“Alana and Kyle, this is Declan. He's pestering my life.”

“Hey Dec. Didn't expect you to be here.” Kyle was talking to him. They must know each other then.

“Neither did I Kyle.” He looked at me pointedly, as if I had something to do with his being here.

“I’m going to leave now. Declan, leave me alone.” And without waiting to hear his response, I walked away.

He made me want to get drunk out of my mind, and I grabbed another bottle of beer and chugged it.

What could I do to make him leave me alone? He was too clingy for a total stranger. Sprouting nonsense about me not belonging, as if I couldn’t see the lust in his eyes. He only wanted me to himself. That was why he was being such an asshole.

As I was walking, I bumped into someone and my bottle fell onto the floor.

“Oops.” I said with a giggle. Shit, I had gotten myself drunk.

“Whoa there. Slow down.” Manly hands held me still, and he was gazing down at me with a smile and beautiful blue eyes.

“Sorry. I think I’m drunk.” I said with another giggle and he laughed with me.

I felt Declan’s gaze boring into my back and the idea occurred to me like a light buld going off. The man holding me had no scent to him. Nothing to cloud my omega mind, which made him a beta. Betas were safe. There was no threat of claiming me here. We could just have some good old fun.

I turned around and beamed at the beta. He was handsome in a very classical way, with dark hair and equally dark eyes. He would certainly do. “Do you want to dance?”

“Right now?” I nodded my head.

“Sure beautiful. I have nothing better to do right now.” Great. With no further words, I pulled him towards the dance floor and when we got there, I wrapped my hands around his neck.

A slow-paced song started to play, and I let my body sway to the beat. The beta holding me knew how to dance, and he matched my pace easily.

I watch Declan walk to us and lean against the wall. His eyes on me were like fire, and the beta holding me was forgotten. I could picture Declan holding me like this, us dancing like this.

It set my body on fire, and I ground against the beta holding nothing back. The music changed to something fast-paced, and we matched our to it.

The beta’s hands held my waist, and he twirled me around in circles. I was laughing because I was having a great time dancing with him. He turned me so that my back was to his front, and I sashayed my waist against his groin.

We were almost dancing salsa, and I loved it. My eyes caught Declan’s again, and the song ended, I pressed my lips to the Beta’s neck.

I saw the rage on Declan’s face, and he peeled his body from the wall. He threw the glass he had been holding to the ground. And people gasped.

The music stopped and he stalked towards me.

I was in deep shit.

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   THREE STATES AND THEN SOME

Declan’s POV Colorado was an incredibly beautiful place, but it was beautiful in the specific way a landscape looks when you are too miserable to actually appreciate the scenery. The Rocky Mountains were visible through my windshield every single morning when I drove to the training facility. They were enormous, white-capped, and entirely indifferent to the fact that the bond had become a heavy, stretched ache in the center of my chest from the exact moment my flight lifted off the tarmac in Rhode Island. The altitude increased, the distance turned into thousands of miles of geography, and my mind stayed behind. I drove past those peaks every day and noted their scale the way you note a fact in a textbook; you know it is significant, but you cannot actually feel it because your attention is fixed somewhere else. My attention was always fixed two thousand miles to the east, inside a third-floor apartment with a doorless bedroom, a corner grocery store, and a woman studying tort l

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   EVERY ITEM

Maeve’s POV I helped him pack his bags on Sunday morning. That was the specific task I had not anticipated would be as difficult as it turned out to be. I had known the departure was coming for three weeks, ever since the Colorado management team had sent over the digital contract and the dates on our calendar had transformed into a countdown. I had spent those three weeks preparing for the separation the exact way I prepared for any difficult logistical hurdle. I used a methodical approach and a deliberate emotional distance that I had developed into a survival skill since I was eight years old, back when I first realized that the world did not stop spinning just because you were having feelings about it. I had looked at the team travel sheets. I had researched the commercial flight paths between Providence and Denver. I had identified every single multi-day gap in the Colorado regular-season schedule, matched them directly against my assignment calendar at Northeastern, and adj

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   COLORADO

Declan’s POV Dan called me on a Wednesday afternoon in October, and I recognized the specific quality of his voice within the first two words of his greeting. It was not his minor-league voice. It was not the casual, conversational tone he used when he was checking in on my caloric intake or giving me administrative updates about the Providence training facility. This was the voice he used when a room full of executives had just reached a consensus. I had heard Dan use this particular register exactly twice before in my professional life, and both times had preceded a major shift in my career. "Colorado reached out to the office this morning," he said without any preamble. I sat down heavily on the old sofa, my hand tightening around the receiver. "Give me the details." He laid out the parameters of the deal. It was a full NHL roster spot, guaranteed from day one, with first-line consideration by the third week of the season if their current left wing’s hamstring did not pass the

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   HARDER THAN FANTASY

Maeve’s POV Six months into our life together in Providence, the dishes became the physical manifestation of every unspoken pressure in the room. It was never actually about the plates or the forks left soaking in grease. That was the hidden tax of sharing a tiny apartment with another person when you both possessed a biological connection that had no off switch. The dishes were simply the breaking point at the end of a brutal Tuesday evening. I had been at the legal aid clinic since eight o’clock in the morning, followed immediately by three consecutive seminars from noon until six. By the time I boarded the cross-town bus, my eyes were burning from reading forty pages of Palsgraf versus Long Island Railroad Company by the dim, flickering overhead light. The text had barely registered, maybe sixty percent retention at best, which was completely unacceptable for someone trying to prove she belonged in a courtroom. When I finally unlocked the door at eight-thirty, the first thin

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   COMPLETELY TERRIFYING

Declan’s POV The apartment was dark except for the blue and white glow of the streetlamp filtering through the blinds. Maeve was lying with her head on my chest. Her finger traced idle and absentminded patterns against my skin, circling the place where my heart beat a steady rhythm for her. The boiler in the basement was doing its usual clank and hiss. It was a noisy and unreliable piece of machinery, but it had become the soundtrack to our new life together. In the silence of the room, every sound felt magnified. "Declan?" she whispered. Her voice was small and fragile, the way it only got when we were completely alone in the quiet hours of the morning. "Yeah?" I asked, my voice thick with sleep and the comfort of her weight against me. "Do you ever regret it?" she asked suddenly. "The career path and the fact that the big agencies aren't calling back anymore. The Providence locker room instead of the big league stage in Boston." She paused for a long time, and her finger stopp

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   NUMBER SEVENTEEN

Maeve’s POV The jersey was massive on my frame. It had the name HAYES stitched across the shoulders in bold block letters, and the number seventeen was a white and gold weight against my back. Declan had handed it to me this morning with a shy and uncharacteristic hesitation. He had told me to wear it only if I wanted to, but the bond had already made that decision for me. It hummed with a fierce and protective pride that demanded visibility. I was done with the shadows and the carefully curated disguises. Today, I was going to be exactly who the universe intended me to be. The arena in Providence was a sharp contrast to the high-gloss spectacles of the NHL rinks I had visited as a child. It was smaller and grittier. It felt more intimate, almost like a community center with a high-stakes secret hidden within its cold walls. You could hear the puck thud against the boards like a heavy heartbeat. You could see the ice shavings and the sweat flying off the players' helmets when

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   SURREAL

Declan’s POV Finals week happened anyway. That was the most surreal part of the whole ordeal, the way the world demanded normalcy in the middle of a hurricane. While the news cycle debated the "Maeve Collins Scandal," Maeve had her Evidence and Contracts exams, and I had my Sport Management final

  • BREAK ME KNOT: An Omegaverse Quarterback Romance   MY CHOICE

Maeve’s POV Alana sent me the final "dossier" at two in the afternoon. She had been my silent witness all year, the one who saw the things I was too terrified to admit to myself. She sent a file of images she’d taken over the months, things I hadn't even realized she was capturing. There was on

DECLAN'S POVOne minute, my teammates and I were standing off to the side bitching about the freshers, the next, a scent slapped me in the face with the wave of a thousand punches. Omega, the alpha inside me growled. “Hey Dec. What's up? You zoned out.” “Give me a minute. Need to check somethi

MAEVE'S POV“Hey! Watch it!” I said when my bag fell to the floor because a girl bumped into me.
