FLAVIA'S POV

After my call with Jazmine, I brought out my laptop and started looking for a nice building to rent for my office space. I mean, one of the reasons I decided to accept the contract deal with Louis is so that I can have money to set up a proper office space for my business and even though he hasn't paid all my money, what he paid me should be able to get a decent space for my business.

"Hmmm, wow." I said to myself as soon as I saw a beautiful office space for lease. "This is perfect or not." I pointed out as soon as I saw the price... I didn't expect that amount at all, it's way above my budget.

I spent about an hour or so on my laptop, surfing the Internet, looking for a nice affordable place but it was a complete waste of time. I mean, I saw lots of beautiful options, places that are perfect for what I have in mind but the prices are ridiculous... "It doesn't even make sense to pay this much for an office space." I pointed out when I noticed another outrageous price.

"Come in." I called when I heard a knock on my door.

"Sorry to disturb you Miss, I just wanted to inform you that your friend is here." Alison stated as soon as she stepped in.

"Oh okay, I am coming." She stepped out of my office and then I took my laptop and phone with me before leaving my room. Hopefully, has will be able to find more affordable options. It's obvious that my tastes are too high for my budget.

I hurried down the stairs as I made my way to the living room and as soon as Jazmine saw me, she stood up and gave me a hug. "Hey, babygirl." I said excitedly while holding her tight. "I have missed you so much." I informed just as I pulled away from the hug.

"I have missed you too girl, how are you?" She sat down and I was about to sit when I remembered that Louis instructed me not to seat on his favorite Italian couch but I don't care.

"I'm fine Jaz, how are you?" I asked as I got comfortable on the forbidden couch with my legs tucked in.

"I'm good. Wow, this place is beautiful." She said while looking around and admiring the place. To be fair, it's actually very beautiful, in fact, he has great taste. Everywhere is tastefully furnished and classy.

"Yeah, he has great taste but very annoying though." I chipped in. "Anyways, have you paid the house rent?" I asked curiously because that was the first money I transferred to her the moment Louis sent me my part payment.

I know that I am not currently staying there with her but I can't just leave her with the whole payment to handle besides, I will be returning there when the one year contract is over.

"Yes I have, I am finally at peace."

Making money and paying bills hasn't exactly been easy, which is why I took the contract deal even though the last thing I want is to be with Louis especially after what he did to me years ago.

"Well, since that's done. The next thing is to get a good office space but from what I can see, it's going to be very difficult... Every space I like is way above our budget and I really don't know what to do because I need us to set up the office on time, so that I can have somewhere to go because I can't afford to stay locked up in this house every day, I will literally go crazy." I need something that will distract me from all the Louis' drama.

"Hahahah." Jazmine laughed and I don't see what's so funny. "I actually think it's your fault. Louis looks like a good guy and I think that if you are nice to him, he will be nice to you." She explained like it's my fault.

"So it's my fault, you think I just wanted to fight him? He is very rude and annoying, he is always getting on my nerves." I clarified.

"Fine, if you insist but I know you and I know you are the reason for most of the issues you guys are having. Look, this is just like day one and you have a year to go, so calm down and stop stressing, try and be nice." She advised and I decided to just ignore her because it's obvious that she's on his side. "Okay, for the office space. I will check it out too and hopefully, we will get something affordable but honestly, I think you need to reduce your taste because what you have your eyes on requires a lot of money." She's actually right about that.

I love fancy things, big classy office space and it's obvious that I can't afford it, at least not yet and I honestly can't wait till Louis pays the rest of my money.

"There you go." I said as I handed her my laptop. "Why don't you go through the list of properties for lease and let me know what you come up with."

"Alright."

I went over to the kitchen to get some drinks and snacks for myself and Jaz and I am so amazed at how beautiful and spacious the kitchen is. It has all the necessary equipment and it was tastefully furnished like every other part of the house.

"Oh Miss, you should have called me." Alison pointed out as soon as she saw me.

"It's fine Alison, I can do this." I pointed out as I opened the fridge and I grabbed a pack of juice.

"I'm sorry Miss Flavia but that juice is for Mr Frederick and he doesn't allow anyone else to take it. Please can you take something else because he will be mad if he comes back and find out that it's finished. That's the last pack in the house." She explained and I honestly don't want to get her in trouble but I like to get on Louis' nerves and this will definitely do the trick.

"Don't worry about it, I am his wife and he won't mind." I said while smiling at her.

"Are you sure because he doesn't joke with that drink." She pointed out which makes it even more interesting.

"Don't worry Alison, I got this." I grabbed two glasses and some freshly baked cookies before I stepped out of the kitchen.

I mean, if he doesn't want to share, why then does he have a wife because as long as I am his wife, everything he owns belongs to me as well even if it's just for a period of one year.

"Any hope?" I asked as soon as I returned to the living room with the juice and snacks.

"Well, I saw a few options but I am not sure you will like it because the distance is a little far from here and I know you mentioned you want somewhere close and civilized." Jaz explained as I handed her a glass of juice.

"Yes, I want us to be able to get frequent, good and rich clients and the location of our office matters a lot. Because people like Louis will not drive to a remote environment just to hire us, so I need the office space to be close." I explained.

"Well, that's true but the closer it is, the more expensive they are."

"Yeah I noticed."

"I think the best thing to do is to be a little patient till when Louis will pay you again because that's the only way we can actually afford the space of your choice. I mean, we can just focus on running the event planning business online like we have been doing for a while now till we have enough money." She suggested and she's actually right, I just want to get to leave the house everyday instead of staying back and getting annoyed by Louis' every move.

"You have a point, I will be patient." It's not easy but instead of getting a place I won't like because of my limited budget, it will be best to just wait.

We spent the rest of the day chatting and having fun and I didn't even realize that the time was far spent until Louis showed up. "Welcome Louis." We greeted as soon as he stepped in and saw Jaz and I.

"Hi jazz, how are you?" He asked and totally ignored me even though I was sitting right there. This is why I don't like to be nice to him, he always finds a way to annoy me, I think his love language is fighting.

"I'm fine Louis." She replied just as his eyes landed on his empty pack of juice that's laying on the table and then he stared at me sitting on his special forbidden couch and I can already tell that he is mad.

"Alison." He called and she immediately rushed out to the living room looking scared. He stared at her for a while and I wondered what the issue is. "You are fired."

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 18 ~ RUNNING INTO HIM

FLAVIA'S POV Three days, that’s how long I have managed to evade Louis Frederick under the same roof. It was a delicate dance, listening for the echo of his shoes in the hallway, the low murmur of his voice on a call, the sound of the engine pulling out of the driveway. Only then would I emerge from my room, moving like a shadow from the top floor to the kitchen, careful not to leave a trace. I timed my mornings like a military operation, only when I am certain he has left for work did I come down, grab breakfast in a rush, and disappear to my new office. The office, the fight over the flowers and everything in between all swirled in my head like a storm I couldn’t escape. I don't hate him, I am not sure I have ever hated him but I don't want to feel whatever it is I am starting to feel, not for him. Not for a man who has made it abundantly clear that I am temporary, an accessory to be worn to galas and meetings. A placeholder bride with a contract and an expiration date. And yet…

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 17 ~ THE CRACKS

LOUIS'S POV I hate when the house is quiet like this. There is something unsettling about silence after a fight, like the tension is still clinging to the walls, replaying every word with sharper edges. I could still hear her voice, thick with anger. Her eyes... God, those eyes had looked at me like I am a monster in a tailored suit.I shouldn’t have snapped at her like I did.I ran a hand down my face, bracing myself on the kitchen island, glaring at the orchids like it was their fault. It wasn’t about the damn flowers, not really. It was about everything else. About how she started leaving her scent in the rooms, her softness in the air, her damn laugh in places where silence used to live and I didn’t know how to deal with that.Flavia wasn’t supposed to… matter. I told myself that the contract was business, that she was just a solution. A temporary fixture to cover up the mess left behind by Emily and the looming eyes of people, media and my workers. And yet, here I am, angry over

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 16 ~ THE RULES OF LOUIS

FLAVIA'S POV I never knew flowers could feel like landmines. The orchids on the marble kitchen island were a soft shade of lilac, delicate and perfectly arranged. I reached out instinctively to adjust one of the petals, only slightly because it looked like it was leaning the wrong way."Don’t touch that." Came a voice from behind me and without turning around, I knew it was Louis.I froze. "It’s just a flower, Louis."His footsteps were clipped against the marble floors as he entered the kitchen. "That’s not the point."I turned around slowly, watching him stand there in a blue jeans and a black polo shirt buttoned by the neck and he looks so cute as usual, I love seeing him in casual outfits as well as cooperates, he looks good either ways. It's Sunday and he is not going to work."What is the point, then?" I asked curiously. He narrowed his eyes at the vase. "I had it arranged a certain way."I blinked. "So? I just nudged a petal.""You moved it. The alignment is off." God. Is he

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 15 ~ NOTHING MORE

LOUIS'S POV The corner office buzzed with the low hum of city life, even from the twentieth floor. I sat behind my desk, scrolling through figures on my screen, but not really seeing any of them as something lingered in my mind."She hugged me." It was brief, warm. Sudden and then she pulled back like she touched fire.I should have forgotten it by now but I can't get it off my mind. The soft knock on the door didn’t startle me, it was sudden and unexpected but only one person knocked like he owned the place."Come in." I said, without looking up.Tommy strolled in with a cup of coffee in each hand, he placed one on my desk before slumping into the chair opposite me. His suit jacket was unbuttoned, tie loosened like always. "I heard from Lidia that Flavia came in this morning," He said casually, before sipping his coffee. "You showed her the vacant floors?"I didn’t reply reply because I can already tell where this is going."You did, didn’t you?" He grinned. "You gave her a space,

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 14 ~ ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY

FLAVIA'S POV It honestly still feels like a dream, I can't believe that I now have an office to myself. Even now, after leaving Louis's office with my documents in hand, on my way back to the building to meet Jaz, it still feels like a wild dream. As soon as the car stopped in front of the Prime corner suite, I stepped out. "Wow, fancy." Jazmine teased as she saw me stepping out of the car. "Who's car is that?""Louis, he asked his driver to drop me." It was a little weird going to his office today because I can still remember what happened the last time I was there.I was practically eating in his office, created a scene and then he offered me contract marriage and with recent development, I am not entirely sure if I am still mad at him or not."Oh, I see. This is getting really interesting, an office space, a black card to furnish the space and then a car to bring you here." I already know what she's driving at but I don't want to give it a thought because I am honestly confused."

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 13 ~ THE OFFER

FLAVIA'S POV The silence in the car wasn’t the comfortable kind, it was thick, drawn-out, and padded with all the things neither of us wanted to say. His hands rested lightly on the steering wheel, his knuckles relaxed albeit the tension simmering just beneath the surface.I watched the city blur by through the tinted window, resisting the urge to fidget with my seatbelt. "Where are we going Louis?" I asked impatiently."This is the third time you are asking in the last five minutes and my reply hasn't changed, you have to wait and see." I really don't understand what the suspense is about, we are already on our way and he can as well just tell me."Fine, I don't know why it's so difficult to say, but it's fine." After last night’s debacle and this morning icy breakfast, I thought we were back to ignoring each other, but I guess not. Wherever it is we are going should better be worth ordering me around for.I stayed quiet and watched as he drove into an unfamiliar part of the city
