FLAVIA'S POV

If I am being honest, Louis's home is perfect. It's enormous, beautiful and tastefully furnished but it's really going to be difficult to leave with him for a year knowing how saucy he is. It's honestly obnoxious, I am doing him a favor here and he should be nice to me... But the funny thing is that I have his time, if he doesn't want to give me peace then I will match his energy meyhem for meyhem.

"Good morning Miss, you are right on time. Food is ready." A young lady greeted just as I arrived down stairs.

"Morning but who are you?" I asked curiously because I didn't see anyone here yesterday when I arrived but I should have known that the house is way too big for just only him to stay.

"Oh, sorry Miss. I am Alison and I am the house keeper." She introduced.

"Nice to meet you Alison, you are really pretty." I complimented.

"Thanks Miss, you are really pretty too." She said shyly.

I am so glad that I have someone I can talk to in this house other than Louis, at least I won't be crazy bored in here.

"Please call me Flavia." I corrected as I sat down in front of one of the plates.

"I don't think Mr Frederick will like or allow that."

"Don't worry about him, he doesn't have a way in this." I pointed out.

"Okay Miss, I will be in the kitchen if you need me." She said as she made her way to the kitchen.

"Hold on Alison, take this away." I pointed to the other food that belongs to Louis.

"That's for Mr Frederick." She pointed out and I know but I am prepared to exasperate him this morning.

"I know but he won't be having breakfast this morning, just take it away." I clarified and she took it with her.

"Wow, this is nice." I said to myself as I saw the fluffy pancake, eggs, sausages and bacon. As soon as I started eating, I could hear Louis coming down the stairs.

I watched him as he walked towards the dining area, stood by the table while staring at his side of the table that has no food on it. "Hmmm, where is my breakfast?"

"Good morning to you too Louis." I pointed out while staring at his annoyingly handsome face. I don't understand how someone could be so handsome, cute and very obnoxious at the same time.

"That's not the fucking answer to my question, where is my breakfast?" He asked angrily.

"Seeing as you are already fat, I decided that it won't be wise to enable you any further, so I asked Alison to take it away. Now that I am here, I will help you improve your health." I said sweetly and for the first time ever, he actually smiled at me and he looks even more cute. "Is that a dimple?" I asked curiously and he immediately stopped smiling.

"You know what, you are right." He said and I am really surprised because that's not the reaction I expected. "As my wife, it's your duty to help me and if you want to start by regulating my size, I am up for it but do you know what will make it more fun and even easier?" He asked curiously as he leaned forward.

"No."

"Your solidarity, doing this together will make it more fun." He flashed me a smirk but then I looked at my food right when he was emptying a glass of water in it.

"Are you kidding me? You ruined my breakfast." I pointed out.

I knew he was too chilled about the breakfast situation but I didn't expect him to pour water in my food just to have his revenge, that's really mean.

"No Flavia, I didn't ruin your breakfast but if you are helping me cut down my size without my permission, then you have to go the extra mile... You are my wife, so if I am not eating, you shouldn't eat." He said coldly.

"I am trying to help you and this is how you treat me?" I asked as I pushed my drenched breakfast forward.

"Your help is unsolicited, I am in this size because I like myself like this. If I have a reason to cut down my size, then I will and it won't be by starving, so stay the hell away from my size. Why don't you just channel your energy to something more important." He suggested and I am honestly curious as to what he thinks requires my effort.

"And what could that be?

"Your face, your looks. I told you yesterday that I am fucking allergic to ugliness, so fix it." He said and walked away before I could say anything. I can't believe that he is still insisting that I am ugly, am I ugly?

This was a mishap, taking the offer to be his wife for a year is nothing short of a horrible mistake. How in God's name will I cope with him for a year with his attitude?

"Alison, Alison." I called.

"Yes Miss. Oh, you didn't eat your food. Should I get you something else?" She asked curiously but Louis has already ruined my appetite.

"No, there is no need. I am fine, just clear the table." I pointed out and I watched her as she cleared the place. "Hmmm, Alison." I called and she looked at me. "Do you think I am ugly, please be honest."

"Ugly? Is that a joke?" She asked but when I didn't respond, she knew I was serious. "No Miss, not at all. You are very pretty and sexy, you are the most pretty lady I have seen in this house." She pointed out and I realized that she might have been here for long, maybe I can find out somethings about Louis, I need to know why he is so angry all the time.

"Have you been here for long?"

"Yes I have, I have been here for years now. I got the job when he married his first wife, he wanted me to help out, so that she doesn't stress herself. Mr Frederick is a really nice man, he is caring, kind, generous and very decent." Well that's not the version of him that I know.

He is very hostile, angry, rude, annoying and oh, did I mention angry? "I see, you can go." I said and she left with the dishes. If he is such a good guy, why is he bent on making my life difficult.

Well, it doesn't really matter. If he wants to make my life difficult then I am prepared to make his life even worse.

I made my way back to my room and as soon as I entered, I heard my phone ringing. "Morning Jaz." I said as I plopped on the bed.

"Where have you been, I have been calling. Are you okay?" She asked worriedly.

"I am fine, I was having breakfast." I pointed out even though I didn't exactly eat.

"Oh, thank God. I was worried you guys have killed yourselves." She pointed out and I started laughing.

"Well, not yet but I will eventually kill him at this rate. Can you imagine that he poured a glass of water in my food and ruined my breakfast before he left for work?"

"What, why?"

"I was trying to help him cut down his size, you know, for health purposes. I guess he didn't like the idea of not having breakfast." I explained and she started laughing.

"What I am understanding from your explanations is that you deprived him of having breakfast and you expected him to let you eat? Really Flavia?"

"I was just trying to help him." I pointed out.

"That's not true and you know it, you just wanted to exasperate him. You love chubby guys, he is handsome and cute, you are just mad that he can't recognize you and you want to frustrate him but honestly, you are frustrating yourself too because it's obvious that Louis won't fold his arms and let you get away with everything, so stop already." She reasoned but I am not the bad guy here.

"You can't blame everything on me, he is very annoying and randy. He called me ugly twice." I clarified.

I mean if he is not offending me, I will gladly stay in my lane and out of his way but he is super annoying and rude and I won't let him get away with it.

"But you know you are not ugly, so don't let it get to you. He is just trying to annoy you, so just mind your business."

"It's not as easy as you make it sound but I will try, I will stay out of his lane and mind my business. So can we talk about why you called?" I asked curiously, I mean, she didn't call just to advise me about Louis, right?

"Is calling to make sure that you guys haven't killed each other not good enough?" She asked and I started laughing. "Anyways, send me your address, I want to come and visit, I miss you already." She stated.

"Now you are talking, I miss you too and I am honestly bored, so it will be nice to have you here. I will send it right away." I ended the call and I sent her the address.

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 18 ~ RUNNING INTO HIM

FLAVIA'S POV Three days, that’s how long I have managed to evade Louis Frederick under the same roof. It was a delicate dance, listening for the echo of his shoes in the hallway, the low murmur of his voice on a call, the sound of the engine pulling out of the driveway. Only then would I emerge from my room, moving like a shadow from the top floor to the kitchen, careful not to leave a trace. I timed my mornings like a military operation, only when I am certain he has left for work did I come down, grab breakfast in a rush, and disappear to my new office. The office, the fight over the flowers and everything in between all swirled in my head like a storm I couldn’t escape. I don't hate him, I am not sure I have ever hated him but I don't want to feel whatever it is I am starting to feel, not for him. Not for a man who has made it abundantly clear that I am temporary, an accessory to be worn to galas and meetings. A placeholder bride with a contract and an expiration date. And yet…

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 17 ~ THE CRACKS

LOUIS'S POV I hate when the house is quiet like this. There is something unsettling about silence after a fight, like the tension is still clinging to the walls, replaying every word with sharper edges. I could still hear her voice, thick with anger. Her eyes... God, those eyes had looked at me like I am a monster in a tailored suit.I shouldn’t have snapped at her like I did.I ran a hand down my face, bracing myself on the kitchen island, glaring at the orchids like it was their fault. It wasn’t about the damn flowers, not really. It was about everything else. About how she started leaving her scent in the rooms, her softness in the air, her damn laugh in places where silence used to live and I didn’t know how to deal with that.Flavia wasn’t supposed to… matter. I told myself that the contract was business, that she was just a solution. A temporary fixture to cover up the mess left behind by Emily and the looming eyes of people, media and my workers. And yet, here I am, angry over

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 16 ~ THE RULES OF LOUIS

FLAVIA'S POV I never knew flowers could feel like landmines. The orchids on the marble kitchen island were a soft shade of lilac, delicate and perfectly arranged. I reached out instinctively to adjust one of the petals, only slightly because it looked like it was leaning the wrong way."Don’t touch that." Came a voice from behind me and without turning around, I knew it was Louis.I froze. "It’s just a flower, Louis."His footsteps were clipped against the marble floors as he entered the kitchen. "That’s not the point."I turned around slowly, watching him stand there in a blue jeans and a black polo shirt buttoned by the neck and he looks so cute as usual, I love seeing him in casual outfits as well as cooperates, he looks good either ways. It's Sunday and he is not going to work."What is the point, then?" I asked curiously. He narrowed his eyes at the vase. "I had it arranged a certain way."I blinked. "So? I just nudged a petal.""You moved it. The alignment is off." God. Is he

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 15 ~ NOTHING MORE

LOUIS'S POV The corner office buzzed with the low hum of city life, even from the twentieth floor. I sat behind my desk, scrolling through figures on my screen, but not really seeing any of them as something lingered in my mind."She hugged me." It was brief, warm. Sudden and then she pulled back like she touched fire.I should have forgotten it by now but I can't get it off my mind. The soft knock on the door didn’t startle me, it was sudden and unexpected but only one person knocked like he owned the place."Come in." I said, without looking up.Tommy strolled in with a cup of coffee in each hand, he placed one on my desk before slumping into the chair opposite me. His suit jacket was unbuttoned, tie loosened like always. "I heard from Lidia that Flavia came in this morning," He said casually, before sipping his coffee. "You showed her the vacant floors?"I didn’t reply reply because I can already tell where this is going."You did, didn’t you?" He grinned. "You gave her a space,

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 14 ~ ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY

FLAVIA'S POV It honestly still feels like a dream, I can't believe that I now have an office to myself. Even now, after leaving Louis's office with my documents in hand, on my way back to the building to meet Jaz, it still feels like a wild dream. As soon as the car stopped in front of the Prime corner suite, I stepped out. "Wow, fancy." Jazmine teased as she saw me stepping out of the car. "Who's car is that?""Louis, he asked his driver to drop me." It was a little weird going to his office today because I can still remember what happened the last time I was there.I was practically eating in his office, created a scene and then he offered me contract marriage and with recent development, I am not entirely sure if I am still mad at him or not."Oh, I see. This is getting really interesting, an office space, a black card to furnish the space and then a car to bring you here." I already know what she's driving at but I don't want to give it a thought because I am honestly confused."

  • BRIDE FOR A YEAR    CHAPTER 13 ~ THE OFFER

FLAVIA'S POV The silence in the car wasn’t the comfortable kind, it was thick, drawn-out, and padded with all the things neither of us wanted to say. His hands rested lightly on the steering wheel, his knuckles relaxed albeit the tension simmering just beneath the surface.I watched the city blur by through the tinted window, resisting the urge to fidget with my seatbelt. "Where are we going Louis?" I asked impatiently."This is the third time you are asking in the last five minutes and my reply hasn't changed, you have to wait and see." I really don't understand what the suspense is about, we are already on our way and he can as well just tell me."Fine, I don't know why it's so difficult to say, but it's fine." After last night’s debacle and this morning icy breakfast, I thought we were back to ignoring each other, but I guess not. Wherever it is we are going should better be worth ordering me around for.I stayed quiet and watched as he drove into an unfamiliar part of the city
