LILLIAN

The office was humming as usual, but today felt different. Like gossip had plugged itself into the walls and spread through the circuit. I shut the conference room door behind me, sketchbook in hand, only to hear two designers huddled by the reception.

“Did you see him?” One whispered, voice pitched with excitement.

The other girl giggled. “Hard not to. Tall. Dark hair. That shirt—God, it gives the whole old money aesthetic. He’s really the perfect definition of my dream man.”

Another voice chimed in from across the hall. “He’s sitting out there like he owns the place. You can just tell he’d be good in bed.”

Their laughter rippled through the space.

I rolled my eyes, muttering under my breath, “We design clothes, not audition for them,” before slipping into my office and shutting the door with a firm click.

Men whose presence radiated with attention didn’t interest me. They always brought nothing but distraction into the office. And I hated it.

  • BROKEN VOWS:- FALLING FOR MY MARRIAGE COUNSELOR   CHAPTER 14

LILLIAN It’s been a week since counseling. A week since I sat in that suffocating office, my life was under a microscope—dissected, picked apart until all that remained were scraps of embarrassment. I told myself a little space would help. A break. Some air. But space doesn’t fix anything when work keeps pressing. I buried myself in meetings, fittings, emails—anything to drown out the way my voice cracked when I tried to be vulnerable. Maybe I knew all along how it was going to end. He’d suggested counseling, so I thought—maybe, for once—he’d give me what I wanted. His ears. But I should have known better. Joe and I have hardly seen each other since. He leaves before I’m awake, his side of the bed already cold. At night, when I hear the sound of his car, I pretend to be asleep. I watch him slip into the shower, then into bed, his back to me like a wall I couldn’t climb. So when my phone buzzed this morning with a message from my stepmother, I almost laughed. At l

RONAN I shouldn’t be mad that her husband showed up. But trust me, I am. Not just mad—furious. I wanted to let her out of her tight bottle, loosen the cap and give her air. It doesn’t take a blind man to notice how sad she’sbeen looking since the last time I saw her. I genuinely thought she wanted this. Him. The polished suit and branded name. But I can see the way she’s drowning, gulping down her unhappiness like bitter water. And the worst part? She’s too damn stubborn to walk away. But I’ll stop at nothing until she leaves that spoilt, smug bastard. Even if it costs me my job “Good of you to join us, Mr Blackwell,” I said smoothly, though my jaw ached from holding back. “Yeah, well, I would’ve been here sooner, but my flight was delayed,” he answered as if the whole session was a minor inconvenience on his calendar. “Oh, you traveled?” I asked lightly, turning a page in my notepad. “Funny, your wife didn’t mention that.” Her head snapped towards me, quick

LILLIAN I can’t believe I have to sit through another session with two men who both manage to get on my nerves. Vivian kept asking me what Ronan said the other night, but I kept brushing her off, telling her it was nothing. She didn’t believe me; I could see it written all over her face, but I didn’t care. Instead, I let everything weigh on me like I was strapped in chains that dragged me down with every breath. If praying could stop whatever was happening between Ronan and me, I would have dropped to my knees already. But something deep inside me kept whispering this wasn’t over yet—that it was just the beginning, and I hate how that feeling makes me uneasy. Then Joe texted me this morning. He said our counselor was finally back from his trip, and there had been an email about it. An email I never got. He also mentioned he’d be late, and told me I could start the session without him. Like that made things easier. Like being stuck in the room with the man I’ve been hopin

LILLIAN “Stop the music!” My father’s voice boomed across the room, silencing everything. I looked to where he stood, forcing myself not to glance back at the doorway. But my eyes betrayed me. And there he was. Ronan. He filled the doorway like the evening belonged to him. His hand rested on the curve of the woman beside him—a beautiful woman, and an elegant woman, the kind that could sell out a whole magazine stand in minutes. My breath hitched, making the glass in my hand tremble. Why is he here? Why won’t he give me a break? I won’t let him get to me. I tore my gaze back to the stage, where my father now wore a full smile. “Ladies and gentlemen,” his voice rang through the speakers, thick with pride, “we are honored tonight to welcome one of our most distinguished and influential guests. A man whose reputation precedes him. Please raise a toast to Ronan Carter.” A few heads that didn’t notice his presence earlier on turned around in amazement

  • BROKEN VOWS:- FALLING FOR MY MARRIAGE COUNSELOR   CHAPTER 10

LILLIAN By the time the night of the event arrived, I was running on equal parts caffeine and nerves. Every checklist had been ticked, every backup plan rehearsed, every detail smoothed over. My best friend and I had walked ourselves into exhaustion, but I finally stepped into the venue and saw the glittering chandelier and stunning interior. I had to admit, it was worth it. The hall hummed with quiet elegance, lit just enough to feel warm without being overwhelming. Long tables draped in white linens stretched across the room, each dotted with crystal vases holding soft arrangements of roses. In the corner, a string quartet played, their music weaving through the low chatter and delicate clinking of champagne glasses. For once, things felt… calm. My best friend appeared at my side in a sleek emerald dress I’d made for her, the fabric catching the light with every shift of her body. It clung perfectly onto her body before falling loose at the hem, the shimmer turning her i
