I was immediately charged to court with a lot of paparazzi going on here and there. A lot of people were out for blood with many of them asking me to be sentenced to life imprisonment. I felt the ground should just swallow me whole. I never expected to find myself in a situation like this not to talk or stand before the panel of jury and a judge. I looked towards the far end of the courtroom and I didn't see Darian and neither did I see his mother. It was now that it dawned on me, I was alone. “ Are you guilty as charged?” I heard the judge's voice and I was brought back to the harsh reality. “ No, I didn't..” I was about to finish my statement when Alessia walked in. I felt my legs weakening once more. “You were saying?” The judge looked at me. I gulped the thick saliva at the back of my throat as my eyes made contact with Alessia’s. “Am guilty.” I said slowly with my head bent down sorrowfully. It was swift, the judge sentenced me to six years imprisonment slamming the gavel. Tears fell off my face as I charged out of the box I was put in. I made my way towards Alessia trying to plead with her to reduce the sentence as she had promised but the men just out of the box were fast enough to grab me. I saw the look on her face, a daring look telling me to keep my mouth shut. I was bundled once again and thrown at the back of the truck. Now parked together with some other cell mates. My eyes darted round as I looked at some of them with muscular arms and tattoos Women who were strong enough to bend me into any size they wanted. Tears fell down from my cheek again as I remembered the promises he had made to me. Everything felt so unreal as I closed my eyes. The trick kicked off after a loud bang at the rear. We were being carted away to a place I had always heard off. The hole. [ PRISON LIFE ] I was thrusted into a room of five. The ladies looked at me and laughed out loud. “ Looks like we are having a new fresher in our midst.” One of the women looked at me. “Please, I am pregnant.” I said quickly. “And?” A croaked voice said from behind me. I turned back and my face went pale. She was twice my length. “I just asked you a question that demands an answer.” she bent a little, staring at my face. I don't know what to say anymore. I just kept quiet, staring at her. “Yes, just what I thought.” Joady B said with anger walking back to her spot. “Looks like you are in luck, Jade green.” she said with a wicked grin. She brought out a cigarette, while one of the inmates ran to her side to help her with a lighter. She puffed the smoke and looked at Jade. “Get her the stuff. She is in charge of scrubbing the toilet and washing the bathroom.” Joady B commanded. Then afterwards, I was welcomed with a lot of beating that made my body soar through the night. The four corners of the prison walls were a stark contrast to the life I had enjoyed when I was free to roam around. Today marked three years of my staying in prison. My skin was looking pale and my face was deformed of any emotions left. I had cried many times awaiting a miracle or rather a pardon. But it looked like I had been forgotten. Left alone to die in this place I was condemned too. I grabbed my tray of food that was rather tasteless or spoilt. I had no choice now, I was feeding for two. I was about walking to my table when one of the inmates bumped into me. “Oops.” She let out a laugh and the rest of them joined. “Mother Mary. Did you get impregnated by one of the inmates?” “I bet she still thinks she is the popular wife of Darian Baldore.” I bent slowly to pack the little out of the food but then I heard a husky voice right behind me. I looked back to see the same policeman that had arrested me the night I signed the contract. “Visitation period!” “What?” I said, feeling a bit tired from fatigue. I wash the toilet five times a week now since Joady B had commanded me too. Darian. Did he change his mind? I rub my hands against my blue uniform that had a clear inscription inmate 1265. With my protruding tummy, I walked, dragging my feet behind the office. As I got out of the prison to the visiting room, my face went pale to see Alessia Baldore. She was still as intimidating as ever with her cold and icy demeanour. “I don't think I would ever see you again.” I said slowly, taking my seat. “What do you want, Alessia?” I asked, staring at her in the face. “That is why I liked you, you know.” Alessia took a pause and stared at me. I followed her eyes and it landed on my stomach. “Pregnant are we?” She said with a chuckle. “I would terminate that if I were you.” I clenched my stomach and gritted my teeth in anger. “Do you think I would allow my son to get married to you? Don't you see what is happening here. But of course, you can terminate the pregnancy and enjoy the privilege of leaving your life in any country you want.” “Is that why Darian cannot come to see me and our baby?” I asked, almost breaking down in tears again “No, Darian had far more important things to worry about rather than waste his time coming down here to see you.” Alessia replied looking at her polished nails “I am here to tell you to forget about Darian. Because he is getting married in four days. So, you had better stop dreaming.” Alessia said slowly getting up. She dipped her hands into her bag and dropped an ivy for me to take, sliding it through the square box. Months passed by so fast. My heart thudded, I could feel my child move in my belly. Anger surging within me but then, I was too tired. My water broke in an instance. Camila's povSelena Grey. Darian's wife. A woman I'd met exactly twice, both times at events neither of us wanted to attend, both times exchanging nothing more than the coldest, most surface-level pleasantries two women could manage while quietly despising the situation that had thrown them into the same room.I remembered the first time clearly, a charity gala years ago, back when I was still new to J and F, still learning how to move through rooms like this without feeling like an imposter in someone else's expensive life. Selena had approached me at the bar, unprompted, and looked me over with an expression I hadn't been able to place at the time. Not hostility exactly. Something more calculating, more assessing, like she was trying to figure out where I fit into a puzzle only she could see the full shape of."You're the one everyone whispers about," she'd said, swirling her drink. "The girl who came back.""I suppose I am," I'd answered carefully."Interesting," she'd said, and w
George's POVPriya's office at midnight looked like a war room, papers spread across every surface, three associates she'd called in on emergency notice working through case law while Camila sat rigid in a chair across from Priya's desk, her hands wrapped so tight around a cup of coffee that her knuckles had gone white.I stood near the window, watching the city lights below, feeling helpless in a way I wasn't used to feeling. I'd spent years learning how to solve problems with money, with leverage, with the kind of quiet influence that made obstacles simply disappear if you knew which door to knock on. None of that worked here. A judge couldn't be bought, not without destroying the exact case we needed to win, and Alessia knew that better than anyone, which was exactly why she'd chosen this particular battlefield."Emergency temporary custody motions are difficult to grant," Priya said, trying to sound reassuring, though the tightness around her eyes told a different story. "Courts
Camila's povPriya arrived at nine sharp the next morning, her expression grim in a way that told me whatever she'd found wasn't a minor complication.I'd barely slept, George's arm the only thing keeping me tethered through another long night of doom-scrolling headlines and rehearsing testimony in my head, imagining every possible question a judge might throw at me and trying to find an answer that didn't leave me raw and exposed in front of strangers. When Priya walked in with that particular tightness around her mouth, I felt my stomach drop before she'd even said a word."Just tell me," I said, before she could ease into it gently. "Whatever it is, I'd rather hear it straight.""There's a clause buried in the original filing," she said, spreading the documents across the table. "Alessia isn't just petitioning for grandparent visitation. She's requesting a court-ordered paternity test to formally establish Cora's legal relationship to the Baldore family. George’s povBy morning, the clip had over two million views, and Camila's public image, which had taken months to rebuild into something the board and the press actually respected, cracked wide open along exactly the line Alessia had been aiming for from the start.I hadn't slept. Neither had Camila. We'd spent most of the night watching the number climb, refreshing the same headlines over and over like doing so might somehow change what they said, both of us too exhausted and too furious to actually rest. I spent the entire night on calls, first with our media team, then with Priya, then with three separate reporters who owed me favors I intended to finally cash in."We need our own statement," our media director said, exhausted, her third cup of coffee going cold beside her laptop. "Something that reframes the narrative before the custody hearing. Right now the story is 'CEO used her own daughter as leverage in a business relationship.' We need it to be 'devoted mother protecting
Darian’s povI hadn't meant for it to go public. That was the truth, even if nobody would believe me once the clip started circulating. I'd agreed to sit down with a journalist I trusted, someone who'd covered our family for years without ever twisting a story too far from the truth, intending to finally, quietly, put on the record everything my mother had done. Aurora. The confession she'd forced Camila into. All of it, laid out plainly, my own small attempt at correcting seven years of silence.I remembered sitting across from the journalist, a woman named Elaine Voss who'd covered three separate scandals involving my family over the years without ever once sensationalizing them beyond what the facts actually supported, and feeling, for the first time in longer than I could remember, like I was finally doing something right instead of something that only benefited myself. I'd told her everything. The confession. The murder. My mother's confession to me directly, word for word as clo
