To say, I'm an obedient daughter with, obviously, clumsiness playing beside me. Never have I ever thought I would do something extremely deranging, crazy and perilous.
"Yes, you're grounded." She repeated herself, making sure I don't ask another time. "Go back in your room. It's time I call a babysitter for you."
"Mom!! I'm not a kid to have a babysitter monitor me.. . for what? 24 hours of a day." I was exasperated, disagreeing with her brilliant idea.
Now here's the thing. It's not like my mother never appointed babysitters for me when she had business trips and contests to judge. But, all in vain, there were hundreds of complaints registered against me which led them to quit the job- which had a pretty fair pay- and now those files are probably rotting somewhere in the attic.
These babysitters even took payment for their damages. I'm not a monster or anything but it's just their necessity stuff used to mesmerize me and as a curious explorer child, I was prompted to check them out.
"You still act like one, Millie. As much as I trust you, I don't trust your... you know, your clumsiness and as on my command, you won't be leaving this house except for college." She stated, making sure I abide by her rules.
"Mom!" I whined. "That's too much."
She could've confiscated my phone or even switch off the connection to the Internet, but then she also knows what happens when that action is taken. I explore the house which means, clumsiness has entered the chat.
"No. I don't want to hear a word. Now off to your bed. Your babysitter will be coming on Monday." She said, clambering up the stairs.
And with that, she left. I heard her bedroom door close indicating she wasn't going to come out of the room until morning hit.
I sighed, groaned, basically tried to rip off my jet black curly hair but I paused.
She won't be awake until morning hits, which means I can sneak out. She doesn't need to worry about me because I'm in fact an adult, aren't I?
I ran up the stairs with deafening steps and larger strides towards my room. Trying to be silent, I warily opened the door before being extra watchful when closing the door behind.
On-time, my phone rang, Hailey's caller ID was displayed on the screen.
I answered, "What?"
"Are you done? We're waiting for you." Hailey responded, honking at my house as proof that they were indeed here.
"Oh my gosh! Shut that noisy thing! I don't want my mom to wake up and make it harder for me to live." I yelped in a whisper, glancing at the door from time to time for a dramatic entrance of my mother.
"What's wrong? Didn't you tell your mother that you're staying at mine?" Hailey asked, thankfully stopping the honking.
I grumbled, picking up my college bag and flipping it upside down, dumping all the books and trash, that had started to settle in it, on the bed.
"She didn't buy that, so I told her the truth but guess what." I waited for them to question but all I got was a silent answer. I continued, nevertheless, "I got grounded."
They gasped, "So? What now?" Meredith asked, voicing out her concerns for our trip rather than how I'm handling the grounded situation.
I have some uncaring family and friends.
"Well," I zipped the bag after stuffing it with necessities that I grabbed in my room. "It's time to break some rules. We're going to Las Vegas tonight."
As cool as it sounded, half of me was terrified of what kind of stunt I was pulling. Well, I should be because the feeling of doubt was still lingering in my fingertips.
I pushed the windowpane open, straddling as I jumped out. Surprisingly, I landed perfectly on my feet and a grin of satisfaction crept on my lips.
I jumped in gratification, waving at my friends and pointing to the little stunt being a success. They gestured from their windows to hurry over.
I nodded, leaving the window open with a half-inch space between the base and pane, and hurtled towards the car but-
I fell.
Either of them, instead of helping me, began guffawing.
I grunted, pushing up and wiping the dust off my jacket.
"That was a real help," I remarked, furiously opening the car door and helping myself in with a few grunts and grumbles.
"Sure, anytime." Hailey choked out between her laughs.
I rolled my eyes, slouching in the seat and not sparing a look at them. "Can we just get going already?" I muttered, wanting to shove a towel down their throats, so they would stop having a laugh from moment to moment about the past occurrence.
"I should've recorded that." Meredith wheezed out, patting her chest to stop from having another laugh chuckling its way out.
I groaned loudly, wanting to throw my hands up. "Go before I walk back to my room."
"And fall again." Meredith chuckled, pounding her palm against Hailey's palm in the air. A high-five.
For goodness sake, they are worse than my nightmares. Let me tell you, they didn't start the ignition till they had a good laugh on it which doubled, tripled, and finally, had tiny tears gliding down their cheeks.
"Okay, so who's ready to have fun?" Hailey yelled in excitement.
I shut my ears, cringing at her high-pitched unneeded excitement flowing out in her voice.
"Just drive already!" I exhaled, moaning in agitation.
"Whoa! You need to calm down. You've been on edge since morning." Hailey blew out, unimpressed with my constant complaints.
Not my fault that I hadn't had a good start to the day since this morning.
"Thank you for telling me that. I didn't know at all." I said, sarcasm dripping heavily in my tone.
"Oops! Someone is about to blow up." Meredith whispered audible enough.
I laughed, "One more word and I'm out of this car. No more Las Vegas, no more last year of fun." I warned, emphasizing every word with seriousness.
That worked for a little while as Hailey hastily pressed the pedal and sped up in an instant before I could either complain or really jump out of the car.
I'll spare the long drive to Las Vegas which wasn't the ideal kind like shown in the movies. It was like we were resurrected as zombies with dark under-eye bags and hair disheveled, practically a nest for a bird to settle in.Or it was just my hair that would resemble a nest. Curly hair, my friends. I'm the only one from the squad to have such hair.Aside from that, we safely landed in Las Vegas having to almost hustle against jerks on the Jeep who raced us on the highway, and Hailey was hyped and streaked our ride, cutting the duration of the long trip."Finally! I am able to stand rather than sit for hours." Meredith exclaimed, plopping down on the grass.Hailey went off to book us a room in the hotel by herself and I wasn't gonna protest over it. The money I earn goes straight to my ravenous hunger strike stomach and the college expenses as well.Meredith, well... I clearly have no idea what she does. She's this slim girl in our squad whose weight doesn't increase. Sadly, I'm the ki
I nervously tapped my foot against the floor of the elevator. We both were alone, waiting to reach the room that my friends had decided to share it with them."Um... I...nevermind." I mumbled, giving up to make a conversation with him.I didn't even get his name and all I could remember was his eyes that were captivating. Now that we're standing beside each other, he's pretty tall.Sucks to be short."Um, thank you for saving me earlier..." I mumbled, barely able to hear over myself. My ears were turning red and I felt a lump forming in my throat when he twisted to look at me.Okay, he's very intimidating. Did I forget I can't talk to boys well??He smiled, actually smiled with his lips stretched out and that added more charm to his face, brightening the glow in his warm eyes.I coughed, averting my gaze before I ende
Funny how things turn out whenever Las Vegas is added in the lives of an individual because it has gotten many untold stories and risks borne from it.Just like that, I had a story to tell as well but oh, boy! I first need to sober up.I laid flat on my back, staring at the mahogany ceiling which was halfway distracting my thoughts but nevertheless, I replayed the encounter with Noah Hudson. The guy seemed like a gentleman and probably older than me.Now, he got the good looks but I didn't have any fluttery feeling rising in the pits of my diaphragm. The feeling of flushed up by the butterflies.Or it's more like getting murdered by the butterflies?I blinked, frowning, baffled by my strange weird yet creepy thoughts emerging especially after midnight. I couldn't quite sleep since my mind has been occupied over certain someone."Hailey? Hailey?" I called out to her in a soft whisper. She hummed, shifting her slumpy body and drap
Grumbling filled the atmosphere. That's basically what my friends do a lot. It's a routine of ours or the torture I bestowed upon my best mates."This is all your fault. I was having such a perfect wedding dream." Meredith sighed dreamily, looking out the window."Eyes on the road, girl." I reminded, rolling my eyes at their pricked moods. They haven't stopped complaining about how noisily I woke them up, must I say, that I didn't care about that."Alright, let's stop all being moody and grumpy old men." Hailey shivered at the thought, "So where to next?""You should know. I am blank." I replied, shrugging."Right," Hailey mumbled, scrolling over her phone to search for the places to have ultimate fun.The last resort better not be the casino.I twisted my neck back, trailing my sight over the car riding behind us."Do they really have to tag along?" I asked, unappreciative for them tagging along."Yes
"Quit tryna make me feel bad." I sang loudly, snatching the mic from the reception. It was more of an announcement phone call I picked up from the Reception. My mind was fuzzy and buzzy but I didn't stop and climbed the reception table, dancing with the music playing in my head. As usual, I was minding my own business being completely crazy. For all I know, I had gone nuts because after that I was kicked out. "Welp... that didn't work out well." I pursed my lips, looking at Noah who was part of this plan. "We did break the rules so... how were you even able to take such a risk?" He asked in a disbelief tone. I guess I impressed him. "Been doing that since birth." I proudly stated. He noted with his silence responding in return, "Yeah, I'm gonna go." I grabbed his forearm, pulling him in swiftly. "Hey, hey! You can't just leave me here. I don't know about you but this is my first time here." He poked his inner cheek with his tongue as he distantly squinted his eyes, "And what
My friends must be wondering, how I survived the drink of liquor. Well, I didn't. They ended up doing the majority of the work, cleaning up the mess that I momentarily laid out for them. Now, clearly what happened? Oh, I would've enlightened you all but I don't know. All I know, I woke up with a massive headache where my insides were ripping apart.Or maybe World War III was channeling inside me."Millie! Do you have any idea what have you done?" Hailey shouted, deafening my hearing for sure.I groaned, hissing at the poking of my headache that wasn't ready to stop any second."Shut up." It came out as a whisper because of my sore throat. "Hand me some water." I coughed out, pushing my curly hair.Whoever it was, they did a good deed offering a cup of cold water which is what I was in need of. Once it went through the dryness occupying like a Sahara desert, I finally looke
For someone like me, what really mattered what was the most important thing after the disaster was to get back home. Not even last minute enjoyments, not the goodbye selfies.I had to get back home before the worse occurs than getting grounded. And speaking of my mother, she has her ways to make a living storm out of every situation. Not always, but still."What are you going to do about Noah?" Meredith asked who sounded genuinely worried.I shrugged, checking my bag for the umpteenth time as the fear of losing things back in the hotel that I'll never get again. For example."Found it!" I hugged my flip phone, taking a sigh of relief."Seriously??" Meredith scowled, getting back to her usual unbothered self.Hailey shook her head in disappointment, twisting her face towards me. "How can you worry about that than the mess you got yourself into?"I snarled, defensively protecting the phone that I treasure the most. "It's th
I sat in the back, munching on desserts or anything that could just be identified as edible. Slouching on the seat, I blankly stared at the road ahead which was dark and only the headlights were lighting up the path to my prison.Yes, I called my home a prison because I'm still grounded.I honestly don't make it sound like I am while taking a trip to Las Vegas. It's a surprise I even survived back there. Almost, I forgot I am now a married woman. Why did I ever meet that guy? It would've been better if I never met him but then I could've gotten married to someone else.Hmm... why did I even think of marrying him in my drunk state? It's not like my mom was nagging me to find a boyfriend or for her a son-in-law."Millie, what are you going to do?" Meredith asked after the silent treatment I was giving them.My flip phone survived, thankfully but it shut off on me due to the low battery. I didn't bring a charger along with the phone and I had t
