Chapter 4

To say, I'm an obedient daughter with, obviously, clumsiness playing beside me. Never have I ever thought I would do something extremely deranging, crazy and perilous.

"Yes, you're grounded." She repeated herself, making sure I don't ask another time. "Go back in your room. It's time I call a babysitter for you."

"Mom!! I'm not a kid to have a babysitter monitor me.. . for what? 24 hours of a day." I was exasperated, disagreeing with her brilliant idea.

Now here's the thing. It's not like my mother never appointed babysitters for me when she had business trips and contests to judge. But, all in vain, there were hundreds of complaints registered against me which led them to quit the job- which had a pretty fair pay- and now those files are probably rotting somewhere in the attic.

These babysitters even took payment for their damages. I'm not a monster or anything but it's just their necessity stuff used to mesmerize me and as a curious explorer child, I was prompted to check them out.

"You still act like one, Millie. As much as I trust you, I don't trust your... you know, your clumsiness and as on my command, you won't be leaving this house except for college." She stated, making sure I abide by her rules.

"Mom!" I whined. "That's too much."

She could've confiscated my phone or even switch off the connection to the Internet, but then she also knows what happens when that action is taken. I explore the house which means, clumsiness has entered the chat.

"No. I don't want to hear a word. Now off to your bed. Your babysitter will be coming on Monday." She said, clambering up the stairs.

And with that, she left. I heard her bedroom door close indicating she wasn't going to come out of the room until morning hit.

I sighed, groaned, basically tried to rip off my jet black curly hair but I paused.

She won't be awake until morning hits, which means I can sneak out. She doesn't need to worry about me because I'm in fact an adult, aren't I?

I ran up the stairs with deafening steps and larger strides towards my room. Trying to be silent, I warily opened the door before being extra watchful when closing the door behind.

On-time, my phone rang, Hailey's caller ID was displayed on the screen.

I answered, "What?"

"Are you done? We're waiting for you." Hailey responded, honking at my house as proof that they were indeed here.

"Oh my gosh! Shut that noisy thing! I don't want my mom to wake up and make it harder for me to live." I yelped in a whisper, glancing at the door from time to time for a dramatic entrance of my mother.

"What's wrong? Didn't you tell your mother that you're staying at mine?" Hailey asked, thankfully stopping the honking.

I grumbled, picking up my college bag and flipping it upside down, dumping all the books and trash, that had started to settle in it, on the bed.

"She didn't buy that, so I told her the truth but guess what." I waited for them to question but all I got was a silent answer. I continued, nevertheless, "I got grounded."

They gasped, "So? What now?" Meredith asked, voicing out her concerns for our trip rather than how I'm handling the grounded situation.

I have some uncaring family and friends.

"Well," I zipped the bag after stuffing it with necessities that I grabbed in my room. "It's time to break some rules. We're going to Las Vegas tonight."

As cool as it sounded, half of me was terrified of what kind of stunt I was pulling. Well, I should be because the feeling of doubt was still lingering in my fingertips.

I pushed the windowpane open, straddling as I jumped out. Surprisingly, I landed perfectly on my feet and a grin of satisfaction crept on my lips.

I jumped in gratification, waving at my friends and pointing to the little stunt being a success. They gestured from their windows to hurry over.

I nodded, leaving the window open with a half-inch space between the base and pane, and hurtled towards the car but-

I fell.

Either of them, instead of helping me, began guffawing.

I grunted, pushing up and wiping the dust off my jacket.

"That was a real help," I remarked, furiously opening the car door and helping myself in with a few grunts and grumbles.

"Sure, anytime." Hailey choked out between her laughs.

I rolled my eyes, slouching in the seat and not sparing a look at them. "Can we just get going already?" I muttered, wanting to shove a towel down their throats, so they would stop having a laugh from moment to moment about the past occurrence.

"I should've recorded that." Meredith wheezed out, patting her chest to stop from having another laugh chuckling its way out.

I groaned loudly, wanting to throw my hands up. "Go before I walk back to my room."

"And fall again." Meredith chuckled, pounding her palm against Hailey's palm in the air. A high-five.

For goodness sake, they are worse than my nightmares. Let me tell you, they didn't start the ignition till they had a good laugh on it which doubled, tripled, and finally, had tiny tears gliding down their cheeks.

"Okay, so who's ready to have fun?" Hailey yelled in excitement.

I shut my ears, cringing at her high-pitched unneeded excitement flowing out in her voice.

"Just drive already!" I exhaled, moaning in agitation.

"Whoa! You need to calm down. You've been on edge since morning." Hailey blew out, unimpressed with my constant complaints.

Not my fault that I hadn't had a good start to the day since this morning.

"Thank you for telling me that. I didn't know at all." I said, sarcasm dripping heavily in my tone.

"Oops! Someone is about to blow up." Meredith whispered audible enough.

I laughed, "One more word and I'm out of this car. No more Las Vegas, no more last year of fun." I warned, emphasizing every word with seriousness.

That worked for a little while as Hailey hastily pressed the pedal and sped up in an instant before I could either complain or really jump out of the car.
