ISADORA’S POV

I stood in the hospital corridor for two full minutes after Aunt Katie finished talking, staring at the closed white door where Rafael was sleeping.

I felt very uneasy where I was and my head felt heavy with too many thoughts. I looked down at the brown envelope in my hand, then looked at the cold tiled floor under my feet.

I had two choices right in front of me right then. I could sit down on the plastic chair and cry about all the lies, or I could stand up and go after the people who tried to ruin my life.

After so many struggles with my thoughts, I made up my mind right there in that quiet hallway. I was done crying, and I was done hiding from my father and Rosalind.

I stood up from where I was, taking long steps toward the glass doors of the hospital exit. Immediately I came out, the cold air outside hit my face the second I pushed the door open, but I did not stop to button my coat. I got into my car, threw the brown envelope onto the passenger seat, and started the engine.

I knew where I was going first. I was going to see Dr. Harrison at his private clinic downtown, and I was not going to leave his office until I got what I came for.

My drive across town took over twenty minutes because of the heavy traffic, but my mind was moving faster than the wheels as I kept thinking about how my father had lied to everyone about being sick just so he could keep Rafael trapped beside Rosalind. It made my stomach turn inside out.

Every time I thought about Rafael taking a burning roof beam on his back to save me, while Rosalind was sitting somewhere laughing at us, my hands would gripped the steering wheel even tighter.

I parked my car right in front of the clinic, grabbed my bag and the fake paper files Aunt Katie had given me, and marched straight through the front doors.

When I got there, the lady at the front desk tried to tell me that Dr. Harrison was busy, but I did not even look at her face as I walked straight past her desk, down the long carpeted hallway, and pushed the heavy wooden door of his private office wide open without  even knocking.

Dr. Harrison was sitting behind a big dark table, holding a silver pen in his hand when the door pushed open, as he jerked up from his chair, his glasses slipping right down to the tip of his nose as his face turned as pale as a fresh sheet of paper when he saw it was me standing in his doorway.

"Miss Fenwick?" he said, his voice shaking a little bit as he tried to adjust his glasses. "You cannot just walk into my private office like this without an appointment. Please step outside and talk to my secretary."

As he said that, I adjusted my blouse in stubbornness as I did not move an inch back toward the door.

Instead, I took three bold steps forward, reached into my bag, and slammed the thick folder of fake medical papers right on top of his desk.

To a point the loud bang made him jump back into his leather chair.

"You are going to lose your license to work as a doctor today," I said, leaning over his table as my face was only two feet away from his. "I have the full proof right here that you took big money from my father to write a false medical report saying he was sick."

Dr. Harrison swallowed hard as his throat moved up and down, his eyes looked toward the corner of the room in bewilderment. He reached out to touch the folder, but his fingers were trembling so much he could not open the cover.

"I do not know what you are talking about, Miss Fenwick," he said, trying to make his voice sound strong, but I could hear the fear in his voice as plain as day. "Your father is my patient, and his medical history is strictly private between us."

"Oh please, do not sit there and lie to my face," I said, my voice dropping into fury as I pulled my phone out of my coat pocket and tapped the red button on the screen and placed the phone right on top of his desk between us.

"The police prosecutor already has the copies of these bank transfers, and If you do not tell me the exact truth on this voice recorder right now, I will make sure you go to prison along with my father Everett"

The doctor fell back into his seat like all the breath had been knocked out of his body.

Immediately he took out a white handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the heavy sweat pouring down his forehead as he looked at the phone recording our voices, then looked up into my eyes, and he knew right then that his entire life and career were about to scatter into pieces as he began to speak.

"Ehm…mm, he gave me fifty thousand dollars," Dr. Harrison whispered, his voice coming out weak and broken as he spoke into the phone microphone. "Your father came to this office three months ago with your grandfather's lawyer. She is completely healthy, but she said she needed a fake paper showing she was sick so Rafael would feel too much pity and guilt to ever leave her side."

I listened to every single word coming out of his mouth, as my blood boiled with anger settling deep inside my chest.

I reached down, picked up my phone, stopped the recording, saving the file into my private drive.

"Thank you for your help, Doctor," I said, stepping back from his desk. "If you try to call my father to warn him about this, I will release this recording to the news channels before you even leave this building."

I hissed and turned around and walked out of his office, letting the heavy door swing shut behind me with a loud thud.

My blood was hot with anger the second time as I got back into my car and sat behind the wheel. My  head was clear for the first time in a long time.

Immediately, I dialed my father's private line, and he picked up on the third ring, his voice sounding calm and healthy like nothing had ever happened to him.

"What do you want from me, Isadora?" My father asked over the speaker, with his tone cold and dry.

“Dad I knew you forged your medical reports just to get back at me and Rafael and it won't be funny this time around" I said.

“Look, I am very busy right now preparing the final estate papers with your sister."

“Oh I see, I felt you could barely work a few days ago on the hospital bed, now you are busy preparing what?  Look, dad, you are going to call an emergency meeting for all the company shareholders in one hour," I said, squeezing the steering wheel tight. "And you must come to that meeting yourself dad." I said.

Immediately I dropped my words, my father let out a small, nasty laugh through the speaker that made my whole body go cold with disgust shoving off his pretense on what I just said about his health. "And why on earth would I ever do that for you? Can't I have a rest again?"

"Because I am standing right outside Dr. Harrison’s clinic with a voice recording of his full confession," I said, letting the silence sit between us on the line for one whole second. "If you are not at the company building in sixty minutes for that meeting, I will send this audio file to every television station in the city, and I will play it for Rafael before the court opens tomorrow morning."

The line went completely dead quiet on his end as all his pride and power vanished into thin air.

He knew immediately that if Rafael heard that recording, he would never look at Rosalind’s face again, and all his big plans with the company and his aspirations would end in total shame in front of the world.

"Give me one hour," my father whispered, his voice turning into fear before he cut the call from his end.

I put the phone down on the seat, put my car in gear, and drove straight toward the big company building in the middle of the city. My head was spinning as I thought about how I was going to use that voice recording to finish him and my twin sister right in front of all the elders and board members of the company.

I drove into the parking lot, turned off the engine, and took the private lift straight up to the top floor where the big boardroom was located.

When I stepped out of the lift on the quiet top floor, my phone began to vibrate wildly in my hand, making me jerk in surprise.

I looked down at the bright screen and saw Marco’s name flashing on the display, so I quickly pressed the green button and put the phone close to my ear.

"Isadora, where are you right now?" Marco asked, his voice curiously and full of panic over the line.

"I am at the company building for the emergency meeting," I said, holding my breath as I waited for his next words. "Did something bad happen to Rafael at the hospital?"

"No, Rafael is still sleeping in his room," Marco said, taking a heavy breath before continuing. "Your father, Peter Fenwick, just arrived at the hospital few minutes ago"

My knees went soft and weak right under me, and I had to lean my whole shoulder against the cold wall so I would not fall flat onto the floor.

I turned around on my heels, ran straight back into the open lift, and pressed the button for the ground floor, knowing in my heart that the real game is about to start in the hospital.

The small gold band vanished into the night, and my heart felt like it was breaking into a thousand small pieces. I turned back to face Rafael, wiping my wet face with the back of my hand so he would not see me cry anymore."You are a coward, Rafael," I said, pointing my finger at his pale face as my legs trembled under my weight.Rafael then took a fast step toward me and grabbed both of my hands in his warm palms. "I am not a coward, Isadora," he said, holding my fingers tight while his eyes filled with tears. "I am keeping quiet because I am trying to save your life and your family from total

My mind was spinning with terrible thoughts as I looked at the dark screen lying on the sheets. I gave him my body and my heart last night, but he still went back to his ex-fiancée the moment I closed my eyes. So much pain cut through my chest so deep that I had to sit on the floor for a few minutes just to hold my knees together.I told myself that I would not stay in his house to cry like a weak person. I stood up immediately, put on my clothes quickly, and grabbed my small bag from the table as I left his apartment without making any noise, and I entered my car to drive down to our family estate in Segovia. The rain was falling heavily from the sky, washing over my front glass as I drove fast on the dark road with my eyes full of tears, but

Then immediately after the gala night, I drove straight to Rafael’s penthouse apartment without waiting for him to explain anything at the gala. I let myself inside the big door using my old code, and I stood in the middle of his sitting room waiting for him to arrive. When Rafael walked inside the apartment and closed the door, I did not waste any time at all as I confronted him immediately."Give me the private keys to my family estate right now," I said, stepping directly into his path as my hands shook with anger.Rafael pulled off his black suit jacket and threw it onto the couch.
