Chapter 1

Penulis: Stars
I was rushed to the operating room with five to six doctors around me, who were hastily stemming the bleeding as they stitched me back up. I was only successfully wrenched from the sweet embrace of death around dawn.

My parents, Bruce Smith and Dana Orwell, had been waiting outside all night and only let out a sigh of relief when they saw me being wheeled out.

Andrea Smith sobbed when she saw me wrapped in bandages, choking out, "I never imagined Cassandra would be so cruel! She pushed me down the stairs! Everything hurts... When I opened my eyes, I saw her with her throat slit wide open. I swear I didn't do anything!"

My brother, Tobias Smith, immediately shielded Andrea, saying, "None of this is Andrea's fault. Cassandra has clearly done this to get your attention! I've seen her do this plenty of times. If she really wanted to die, she would've sliced her head off.

"Why didn't she do that and instead make such a shallow cut?"

I was suffering from severe blood loss and was currently under anesthesia. Still, I could hear vague voices cutting through the fog.

I had to be good. I had to repay Andrea with my life. I didn't deserve to live.

Suddenly, I felt energized as my eyes snapped wide open. Then, I used all my strength to viciously tear open the stitched wound that had barely stopped bleeding.

I shrieked hysterically, "I'm sorry! This is all my fault! I'm sorry! I'll kill myself right now!"

Everyone, including Tobias, turned stark white when they saw crimson gushing down my neck.

Several doctors rushed to restrain me and promptly sedated me. I went mad as I felt their hands on me, tearing at the bedsheets as I cried out, "No, let me die! Please let me die!"

I had to be rushed back into the operating room less than five minutes after being wheeled out.

They could hear my broken moans and wails through the sealed doors.

Dana had gone pale as she collapsed to the floor, utterly shaken.

Bruce became livid as he slapped Tobias hard across the face and growled, "Look at what you've done to Cassandra! I promise you that you'll rue the day you're born if anything happens to her!"

Andrea had burst into tears, frightened by the series of events. Tobias gently pulled her into his arms and wiped her tears away.

Tobias had no choice but to bitterly swallow his anger under Bruce's fury. Still, he resented me for putting him in that position.

After the doctors managed to drag me back to the land of the living, I was promptly transferred to the ward that evening.

Tobias was my first visitor. Unfortunately, he wasn't here for a friendly visit. Instead, he was here to settle the score.

He sneered when he saw my barely breathing form on the hospital bed. "You're quite the actress. You've been back for less than a day. Yet, you've already made Andrea cry. You even used committing suicide as a means to bully her! Cassandra, you're such a malicious and two-faced she-wolf."

There was no warmth on his face, only resentment.

Whenever I saw that look on his face, I knew that something terrible was going to happen to me.

The fear that had never left me immediately ballooned to monstrous proportions. I whispered shakily, "I-I'm sorry. I'm so sorry… I'll repay Andrea with my life…"

Then, I picked up a small green bottle and chugged the poisonous contents down my throat.

Bruce and Dana walked in just then. They froze, unsure what was transpiring between us.

Before they could react, I started spewing black blood from all my orifices.

"Cassandra!" Dana screamed as she rushed to my side.

Bruce urgently hollered for the doctors' help. Soon, more than a dozen white-clad doctors rushed into my ward. I could feel their hands on me as they scrambled to save me.

Tobias could only stand there with his jaw slack. Andrea was no better as she'd turned to stone out of sheer fright.

I didn't care for any of that as I desperately prayed to any god out there, "Please. Please let me die. Please take me away. I don't want to be saved."

I would do as Tobias wished and lay my life at Andrea's feet.

My consciousness began to slip, and I could feel my organs burning from the inside out.

Finally, I could no longer keep my eyes open.

Dana was so enraged that her fingers shook when she pointed at Andrea. "It was you all along! You planned everything. You made us wrong Cassandra for years and nearly got her killed!"Tobias' eyes were bloodshot with fury as he glared at her. "I sided with you over and over. I even doted on you due to my guilt. I never imagined you could be this malicious."Bruce was shaking with rage. He clenched his fists, whipped out a silver blade, and pressed it against Andrea's throat. He wanted nothing more than to decapitate her right then and there. Still, he barked at the guards, "Guards, seize her. I'll announce her misdeeds and her exile to the entire pack tomorrow. She is to be exiled to the Wastelands, never to set foot in our territory ever again!"Finally, he turned to her and growled, "I'm going to ensure that you taste every bit of suffering Cassandra has endured."Andrea's legs gave out beneath her, her knees falling to the ground with a painful thud as tears streamed down her

The doctor examined my body and inquired about my injuries. I answered her as honestly as I could. After all, some of them were self-inflicted. There was a time my mind was tearing at the seams. The only thing that could cut through the fog was pain. So, I would use a silver knife to carve into my body whenever I lost control.Still, some of the deeper knife wounds were inflicted by others.I remembered that I had a lot of fight in me in the beginning. So, they would threaten to kill me to gain my obedience. The number of those wounds equated to the number of times I'd been taken non-consensually.Eventually, I became the meek little thing they wanted. I had learned that there was no escape. So, I began to cooperate. At least this way, I would suffer less.As for the burn marks and the bruises… Well, I couldn't remember how I got them.I had no idea how many times I had been round with pups, nor how many times I'd miscarried. Perhaps the knowledge was too painful for me, so my

Things came to a head when Andrea was poisoned. Tobias finally had enough as he yelled, "Do you really think that the good life you have right now is something that falls from trees? The only reason you're still standing here being such a brat is because of the guards who died in the line of duty! "Yet, not only are you ungrateful, but you've also spat on their sacrifices by bullying their pups! Let's see how long you'll last without the family's protection!"Tobias hadn't been wrong. I was nothing without my family. In the beginning, I lived a life worse than death. I had been tormented and humiliated at every turn. Still, my will to live gave me the strength to endure it all. In the end, I even stooped low enough to trade my body just to survive.I didn't know how many pups I carried, but I knew that I miscarried plenty. There were also pups that made it to term but still died shortly after their birth. As days passed, the more numb I grew to it all. My eyes had lost their spar

Tobias froze when he heard it, but he quickly recovered as he drew his blade at the poor servant's neck."What nonsense are you spewing? A rogue? Pups? Keep this up, and I'll rip your head off!"The servant practically crumbled as he blubbered, "Why would I lie about this? I'm telling the truth! If you don't believe me, then you can see them for yourselves!"Tobias still refused to believe a word coming out of that servant's mouth. Still, he did just that and went home. When he got there, he saw an old rogue and two pups standing at the entrance. It was a boy and a girl who bore an uncanny resemblance to me.The old rogue broke into a leer the second he laid his eyes on Tobias."My, my, it sure was hard to get an audience with Cassandra nowadays. Still, the pups miss their mother. I had no choice but to put in the elbow grease to make that happen. Go on, then. That's your uncle."Then, he roughly shoved the two pups at Tobias.Tobias stared at the two tanned pups standing before

Bruce locked Tobias in his room from that day on, even going as far as to forbid him from leaving.I was soon diagnosed with severe depression. The doctor even made it known that I was a suicide risk.My parents started to treat me like I was glass after that. It was as if they were afraid that one wrong word would cause me to shatter.I was so weak that I didn't even have the strength to push myself upright. So, Dana had to bring me food and feed me herself. Unfortunately, the pain from my injuries prevented me from eating much. She had no choice but to watch me growing thinner and thinner by the day, feeling as though the razors I'd swallowed were slicing her heart apart instead.Only Tobias remained indifferent toward me."The whole household is revolving around you now. You've done it! Are you happy now?"Bruce slapped him hard the second those words fell from his lips. "It seems you still haven't learned from your lesson. Keep this up, and you'll be confined for a month!"
