The kiss ended and Draven stepped back so fast that the chair behind him almost fell.

He stared at Calista without saying a word and his chest rose and fell.

Calista lowered her eyes but she did not move toward him again.

“I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “I shouldn’t have done that.”

Draven rubbed both hands over his face.

“You shouldn’t have.”

“I know.”

Silence filled the room and Calista looked at him with gentle eyes.

“You’ve been hurting for days.”
