Chapter 2

Nick's POV

I was running ahead of the other warriors in the woods after Simeon sent me a message that a rogue spy was lurking around the pack. We decided to give it a chase.

Rogues are werewolves that ran away from their packs for one reason or the other to live on their own in the wild. They can be very wild and uncultured, and as such considered very dangerous.

Two things the moonlight pack can't stand are rogues and witches.

We most times capture rogues and keep them in our reformatory for them to be reformed and be readapted into the pack system. On very rare occasions do we kill them, unless they force our hands.

My hatred for those wild untamed beasts is beyond words, especially been that rogues were responsible for the death of my grandmother who was the only family member that treated me nicely.

I could still remember vividly how she was killed, I was only twelve years, yet to be able to shift as a wolf. grandma had sent Simeon and me on an errand, and when we got back, we saw the vicious monsters covered in blood run into the woods. My grandma was dead with her eyes open and covered her pool of blood. It hurt then that I could not protect her when all she ever did was protect me from my dad and his mistress.

My greatest joy will be to give the same treatment to those sets of rogues that helped in destroying my life and taking away the only source of happiness I had left in me.

After her death, I was moved to the packhouse where I received the worst treatment of my life, it seem as if my father's mistress had been waiting for such a time to unleash her rain of terror on me. I was constantly been beaten and whipped by my father's orders.

I used to ask myself what I did wrong to deserve such hatred from my father, to date I am yet to understand why. The anger and violence I exhibits today were a result of the torture they made me go through.

"She is running towards you Nick," Simeon said.

I saw the rogue running away which made me start pushing my arms back and forth, jumping over fallen trees, dodging insects, and pumping my legs as fast as they could go. The rogue was super fast, but it was no match for my strength and stamina.

Within seconds, I had caught up with the rogue, while the other guys later joined me in surrounding it. On closer observation we discovered that the rogue was a she-wolf, She was huge and beautiful, with golden and strains of black fur, and to top the chart, she was an alpha wolf. She didn't look wild or dirty and at first glance, you might even mistake her for just a well home breed wolf.

I can't believe we have been chasing after a girl, most female wolfs are known to be weak with little or no athletic strength, but she seems to have defiled that rule.

She doesn't even look frightened.

Now, which girl will not be frightened by over eight alpha wolves hovering around her? She stood her ground, growling at any of the warriors who dares to come close to her. The morning sun made her fur glow as she kept steady eye contact with my men.

There is no way out for you, just come with us peacefully, or we pull you across the woods by force,” I said, and that seem to bring her attention to me a bit. She smirked at me while allowing a mischievous smile to play by the side of her lips.

She started saying some inaudible things more to herself than to us and no matter how hard I tried to listen to her, I could not pick a word. then all of a sudden, there was heavy wind everywhere. The wind came with lots of dust, sand, dried leaves, and sticks spinning all around us so much so that we could barely see anything.

We all covered our eyes with our hands to prevent dust from entering, while we stumbled around, trying to keep tabs on the rogue. By the time the wind had gone down, she was nowhere in sight.

We tried looking around the woods to see if we could see any sign of her but it appears she was far gone.

Who is she?

Kyle's POV

I reduced my pace as I got closer to my old wrinkled cabin surrounded by beautiful flowers and herbs, as I got closer, the sweet smell of home sweet home engulfed my entire body, it was relaxing and comforting. I live here with my mother who happens to be a human and a witch.

I went under the tree where I have carefully hidden my clothes earlier,  and shifted back to my two legs.

I felt fulfilled after successfully trying to use the new magic spell my mum had taught me, to rescue myself from those mean werewolves. I should not have used magic, because my mum had warned me against it.

It is uncommon to see a wolf cast a spell unless of course, it is a matter of life and death, she says.

Well, it was a case of life and death for me, because there was no way I could have outrun them all, especially the one that appears to be their leader. he is just too huge and super fast to be called a wolf. And his speed is nothing like I have seen before.

"Where have you been kyle?" my mother asked, immediately she set her gaze upon me, her voice laced with both worry and concern.

"I went in search of new types of herbs for you mother," I said, bringing out the dried leaves and sticks I had previously picked from the floor while looking for excuses to give her on why I went out so early in the morning. She looked at me and smiled while collecting them.

"These are not herbs Kyle, they are grasses, and did you get a cut on your face while picking these?" she questioned, after noticing a little scratch on my forehead.

The sudden realization that I didn't know I had a minor scratch threw me off my game a little bit, I must have gotten it while trying to run away from those mean ugly wolves.

"Really? Are you going to the ugly?" Cleo asked.

Cleo is my wolf and she is my greatest source of strength. She is wild, strong, and beautiful.

"like who sends an entire squad after a girl?" I asked rolling my eyes with a bit of chuckle.

I watched as Mum plucked a flower from the gardens and squeezed out the juice to apply on the scar

"Awn! It stings" I unconsciously let out a whimper, wondering why she always has to apply all these herbs on any little scratch I get. The injury usually heals up in no time on its own, thanks to my powerful werewolf genes.

"That's for lying about where you have been," mother said smiling, making me aware of the fact that she knew I was lying.

Need I mention that I am terrible at lying?

"You need to stay away from those wolves in the woods, they are mean and uncivilized," mum said, as she opens the door to our small apartment.

It is a modest two-bedroom and a sitting room apartment. we hardly have visitors, and when we do, they take my room while I share a room with my mum.

The kitchen and dining space are attached to the sitting room. It is not much, but the most comfortable place and safest place in the world, just a little too lonely sometimes.

"They are my family mum, I want to be part of them, I feel so lonely staying here all by myself" I snorted behind her.

I am tempted to ask her about one issue that has always troubled me and even though she keeps pushing it aside, I still feel the need to pressure her more about it.

I am already seventeen years old and was yet to meet my father for the first time. Is he alive or dead? Mum won't say.

"I understand how you feel Kyle," she said trying to calm me down.

"No mum, you don't understand how I feel, you live here with your fellow witches as friends, I don't have any friends and I am almost eighteen, if I don't go out, how will I ever be able to find my mate," I said, wishing I can pour out a little bit of how I felt without hurting her.

It's frustrating not to be able to identify with those who are supposed to be your family. Like you are alone when they are so many people like you out there.

What if my father is out there looking for me? What if he is sorry for abandoning me? What if he wants to see me? These thoughts keep going through my mind.

"Then wait till you are eighteen, after which you can go anywhere you wish," mum said gently, hiding the fact that some of the things I might have said earlier hurt her a bit.

"I'm sorry mum," I said, as I wrapped my hands around her waist from behind. "I didn't mean to hurt you and you know I love you a lot " I added and could feel her relax as she let out a sigh heavily.

"It's alright kyle, and truly I understand how you feel, OK? But for now, why don't you eat your breakfast and go clean up. I will need you to help me prepare some portion in this morning" she said, unwrapping my hands from her body as she turned to place a kiss on my forehead.

"I love you pumpkin," she said as she walked into her room.

"Loved you first mom," I said after her. While I settled down to eat the potatoes fries and chicken sauce she had prepared and set it on the table for me. Mum normally prepares healing potions for sick people and that is how we earn our minimum wage.

My mind drifted back to how fun it was to play with those wolves in the woods, I only wish I stayed back to see their faces after I started the weather change chant I did.

It must be fun to live in a pack, have friends and family who look and behave like you. While your crush on some hot dude who probably plays soccer or the Alpha's cutest son and eventually marries him, to raise beautiful kids and live life happily ever after.
