Yuri’s POV
There were times when I did not even think that my love for Chase would come true.
I liked that Chase at least felt sexually attracted to me. And I had a wrong impression that the act of pouring into me was Chase's uncontrollable passion for love.
There was enough pleasure in forcing myself to fit in with Chase’s tendency to enjoy rough relationships, and I really believed that it was the type of love I would achieve.
‘He loved me so much that’s why he could not control his rough desire,’ I was drowned into such belief.
But when Mikhail kissed me, I realized that such desperate feelings aren’t always needed to feel pleasure. And that’s why I failed to control my emotions and burst out.
It wasn’t because I felt guilty for kissing Mikhail. It was because of the realization his kiss brought me.
“W-Why…Why are you crying?” Mikhail asked as I sobbed uncontrollably.
I could not answer. Words caught in my throat.
“I am sorry,” he apologized blindly. “I must have done something wrong. Did I go too far?”
No. Mikhail did nothing wrong.
In fact, I hated myself for thinking of Chase in times like this.
Mikhail kissed me so softly, like the gentle breeze of the spring. Yet it was tragic that my body was accustomed to Chase’s rough behavior.
‘I would rather think about dying or not thinking at all if Chase would only occupy my head.’
Suddenly, suicide ran through my head again. I started to regret not dying when I fell from the cliff. That’s how Chase broke my heart and brought misery to my life.
“Please, stop crying,” Mikhail asked me, who only shed tears.
I lifted my blurry sight and saw him looking restless as if he wanted to wipe my tears but could not.
And then, rain poured down.
Pitter, patter.
The dark sky rambled, and the raindrops began to fall.
“Let’s avoid the rain first, okay?” Mikhail said, clicking his tongue. He extended his hand to me, and I accepted it.
I cuddled him, letting him take me anywhere. However, my tears did not stop flowing. It kept falling, like the heavy rain mourning along with me.
Mikhail took me to a cave nearby.
He lit a bonfire to give us warmth. Then, Mikhail sat next to me.
He did not say anything, as if he knew how complicated human emotions are.
I looked blankly at the burning flame.
And after a while, I opened my mouth.
“My name is Yuri,” I said.
In my peripheral vision, I saw him facing my side.
“I am working many part-time jobs while waiting for ranking results for being a teacher.”
Mikhail did not reply. Even though I knew that he probably didn’t understand some of my words since this was the first time he met a human. Still, I continued.
“When I was in college, I tutored students to support my studies. And that’s when I met a man named Chase. I tutored him Monday to Friday. We got to know each other and, eventually, started dating secretly for many years. However, one day, his mom found out about our relationship and asked me to stay away from her son. Chase did not stop, though.”
I picked up a dry fig and threw it on the bonfire. Seeing the flame, I remembered how painful Chase’s mom’s slap on my face when she told me: [“What the hell do you think you're doing, you filthy slut? Trying to lure my Chase into your bed? Over my dead body will you ever see money from my son's wallet!”]
Her slap and her words burned me like a flame. She taught me my position and that Chase and I will never stand in the same league.
As I hugged my knees, I continued telling Mikhail my story, “When Chase continued our relationship, I thought taking the risk was worth it. And soon, we can get married and be happy forever. However…”
I cast a gaze at Mikhail.
“Chase will marry another woman.”
Mikhail furrowed his brows as if he could understand what marriage was.
“When I asked him why he’s going to marry another woman, do you know what Chase told me?”
["This is my parents' will, but let me assure you, Yuri, that my love for you remains here in my heart. This is purely a business decision. Even if I were to marry that woman, you will always be the only woman for me."]
Recalling his answer, my fingers curled tightly into my fists.
I recounted, "He proposed that I become his second woman- a mistress who would be forced to live in secrecy and shame, unable to stand by his side with dignity, and despised by all.
His love was like that. A love that is not worth the risk.
"I rejected him," I said. "Despite my deep love for him, I could not fathom a life of such deceit. And yet, here I am, left with this unbearable pain."
And I even tried to kill myself just because of him. Yes, that’s how weak I was when it came to Chase.
“I could not understand everything,” Mikhail finally spoke.
Amidst the subdued illumination, where solely the flickering flames of the bonfire illuminated the surroundings, we gazed deeply into each other's eyes.
“But I understood some parts. That he is a bad man who hurts you and does not deserve to have you, Yuri.”
When he called me my name, there was a tingling feeling ticking inside me.
“You can understand humans well, could you?” I asked, chuckling.
“Humans aren’t the only ones with emotions,” he said. “If you look around, animals act based on their instinct. But a Mother bird won’t protect her baby bird if it has no emotions. That goes the same for me.”
It was a surprise for me that he used animals as examples to show that he has human emotions. And that piqued my curiosity even more.
“Then, what are you?” I asked.
“…”
He pursed his lips as if sealing the secret inside the Pandora box.
“What are you, Mikhail?”
His eyes fluttered gently. He lowered his gaze, and when those beautiful eyes looked at me, his lips parted, unsealing the secret of this Hidden Greenery.
“I am a werewolf.”
Yuri’s POV“What are you, Mikhail?”“I am a werewolf.” The “Hidden Greenery” sure holds the biggest secret in the world.I looked at the man who claimed to be a beast – something I only heard from my friends who lived with their fantasies in books.Never did I try reading a werewolf story because I never believed they existed, nor did I want to convince myself of it? But here I am, sitting before an open book of mystery.“Don’t tell me you’ll be taking me to the Pack because I’ll be eaten?” I managed to crack a joke to hide my bewilderment.“We don’t eat humans,” Mikhail said. “If we do, then I should have eaten you before. Because you tasted so sweet, Yuri.”The smile on my lips vanished. This man perhaps did not know he was a female swooner. He looks innocent but dangerously sensual because of his sincerity.I forged a cough and looked away from this beast.“I did not cry because you did something wrong,” I confessed. “It was only because I remembered bad memories of Chase. That’s
Mikhail’s POV I am a lone wolf, banished from the Ever-Green Pack. I roam the forest, a solitary figure in the moonlight. My curse is a burden I bear alone, bestowed upon me by the Goddess of the Moon at my birth. All the werewolves in the pack knew what my curse was. The curse to kill every she-wolves in the Pack. The Elder, Gregor, told me the story of how the female werewolves began to die one by one after my birth. Even my own mother, who had held me so lovingly in her arms, eventually succumbed to the curse. My father, unable to bear the loss of my mother, grew to despise me. His grief consumed him, and he eventually took his own life. It was then that the Alpha and the Elder made the decision to banish me from the Pack. Once I was gone, the female werewolves barely survived. However, as time passed, they, too, perished until only one remained. The survival of this last she-wolf was crucial, as her death would mean the end of the lineage for everyone in the pack. I had no int
Mikhail’s POV With Gregor's guidance, Yuri and I were ushered to the Alpha’s house. The male werewolves of the Pack kept on following us from behind as if they were looking for an opportunity to snatch Yuri away from me.I was making sure no one touched her, not even the strand of her hair.“Mikhail,” Yuri whispered.I turned to look at her, my eyes scanning her face for any signs of fear or fear. She had displayed a frightened expression earlier when she saw me growl, but now, Yuri seemed to have regained her composure and was no longer wary of me."Where are we going?" she asked.I leaned closer to her, my nostrils flaring as I caught a whiff of her sweet scent. It distracted me for a moment, but I quickly regained my focus and answered her question."To the Alpha's house," I said."Alpha?" Yuri repeated, her brow furrowing in confusion. "I didn't ask you about that. I know the meaning of Alpha in literature, but I have no idea what an Alpha means in werewolves. My friends might kn
Yuri’s POV I was scared the first time I saw Mikhail act like a beast. That was my initial reaction, but later on, I was convinced Mikhail only did that to protect me from the other male werewolves in this Pack. Compared to the others, Mikhail was a cut above the rest. The other werewolves would eye me hungrily as if I were their next meal. So, I could not fathom why they were trying to send him away. Their language was hard to decipher; it did not sound like any language in human society. Nevertheless, I somehow managed to convince the Old man, A.K.A, Elder Gregor, to let Mikhail stay with me. And now, I am inside Alpha’s house with Mikhail. Alpha's house had the appearance of a tree house, much like the ones created by the massive roots of the trees in the village. However, upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the interior was similar to any ordinary human dwelling. To my amazement, this house had electrical machines and even electricity! I noticed a lamp, fa
Mikhail’s POV My perception of Alpha Thunder is quite negative. He has a reputation for being violent and ruthless, and while he may have reservations about killing members of his Pack, he is not one to shy away from using force against those he dislikes. Despite his reluctance to lose more of his people, he is the kind of man who would not hesitate to resort to violence when necessary."Grr, Kill him, Mikhail. We can kill him together," my wolf, Dominic, was urging me to fight back against Thunder. But I hesitated. As a rogue, I was no longer under Alpha Thunder's authority, but I still valued life. If I killed the Alpha, who would protect the Pack? Even though they had kicked me out, I didn't want them to perish. This was my parents' home, after all.But then I saw Thunder approaching Yuri, and my hesitation turned to anger. If he hurt her, I would not hesitate to challenge his power.‘If you lay your finger on her, I swear to kill you, Thunder,’ my wolf vowed as I felt the burnin
Yuri’s POV "We only need to hold something from her.""And what might that be?""Her babies. That female human should stay here. We will use her to breed the next generation of this Pack. Only when she bears female offspring will she be allowed to return home.”"Did I hear them right?" I thought to myself, my heart racing with fear and anger. They wanted to use my body to breed their next generation of werewolves? Did they see me as nothing more than a vessel for their pleasure?I couldn't believe what I was hearing as I stood there, my body trembling with disgust. The Alpha and the Elder continued to talk as if I wasn't even there."A female human to breed werewolves," Alpha Thunder muttered. "If we do that, there will be half-breeds in our Packs.""But that's the only way for us to continue our generation, Alpha," Gregor explained. "And there's no problem with half-breeds. Time will pass, and soon, their children will be pure-blooded. And this female human is different. She has a s
Mikhail’s POV The sound of Yuri's anguished cries pierced through my heart, causing it to ache with a deep sense of sorrow. I watched helplessly as she sat on the ground, her body wracked with sobs that shook her shoulders violently. Her tears flowed freely, showing no signs of abating anytime soon. I felt utterly powerless, unable to offer any words of comfort or solace to ease her pain. It was a raw and intense emotion that only she could fully comprehend and articulate. We remained inside the Alpha's house, sitting on the cold, hard ground. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly as Yuri's cries echoed throughout the room. Eventually, her tears subsided, a feat I had thought impossible. However, the relief was short-lived as her face was consumed by a dark, brooding expression. Her eyes were empty, devoid of any spark of life, and she resembled the same broken, defeated person I had first met - someone who had lost all will to live. Slowly and cautiously, I approached Yuri and sat
Yuri’s POV"I have one more condition. Don't kick Mikhail out of the Pack. Let him stay here with me."Upon revealing my additional requirement for agreeing to become the breeder of their Pack, the atmosphere in the room became noticeably frigid. Nevertheless, the intensity of their disdain for my proposal to allow Mikhail to remain in Ever Green was profound, as evidenced by the fiery glares in their eyes."YURI," Alpha Thunder barked my name with an air of superiority. His words dripped with conviction. "You seem to hold yourself in high regard simply because you're a woman."Thunder loomed over me, his gaze meeting mine as he leaned in close. His warm breath tickled my skin, causing my knees to tremble with fear. But I refused to back down, meeting his stare head-on."We could easily bring any woman from the human world," he whispered, a menacing smirk playing at the corner of his lips. "I agreed to your request to only send werewolves who could understand your language, but bringi
