Chapter 3

Author: South Twig
"Cupcake," Grandma suddenly said.

That was her nickname for me!

I ignored Stella's sudden look of terror and rushed toward Grandma, hugging her tightly.

"Grandma, you're awake! Wait for me, I'll save you. I'll get you out of here!"

My face was completely filled with grief as I took off my coat and draped it over her shoulders.

Instantly, murmurs of doubt arose from the crowd of reporters and onlookers.

"Look, Dr. Watson's face completely darkened! Could it really be that the man is from the reclusive Greene family after all?"

"I can't be sure, but I did hear that the Greene family had an old lady who was in her 80s too."

However, amidst the crowd's murmurs, Grandma suddenly shoved me aside and screamed at the top of her lungs.

"Ahh! Let go of me!"

Grandma looked terrified. It wasn't until Drake ran up to her and hugged her that she finally calmed down.

"Drake… Drake…"

I stiffened, looking as though someone had just poured a bucket of icy-cold water over my head.

Drake wouldn't stop howling and crying, however. He rushed up to me and forcefully shoved me aside.

"You kept abusing Grandma for years, and I never even held it against you as her caretaker! But Grandma has only just woken up from surgery now, and she needs to rest and recuperate. Please stop torturing her again!"

I was shoved back until my body slammed hard against the operating table. However, my mind had gone completely blank as I stared at Grandma in utter disbelief.

"How could this be? Grandma… It's me, Lucas…"

However, no matter how much I called out to her, Grandma would only look at me with terrified eyes.

But she was my grandmother, the one who'd watched me grow up since I was a baby!

What had Drake done to her?

My voice was hoarse as I lunged at Drake, grabbing him by the collar and shouting, "What have you done to my grandmother? Why doesn't she know who I am anymore?"

A split second later, however, Stella's face changed again. She kicked me hard in the waist, and I was sent flying back against the wall.

"You bastard! Get your hands off my husband!"

I slid to the floor after hitting the wall at full force, spitting out a mouthful of blood. However, the deadly glare in my eyes was still there.

"My dad will be here any moment, Stella Watson! Do you even know what you're doing?"

Stella stared down at me with a haughty expression as she spoke, her words sharper than a knife.

"Lucas, you're having a bipolar disorder attack again. I'm calling the mental institution now to take you in for some 'recovery'!"

At once, a few security guards rushed up to me and pinned me to the floor.

I still glared fiercely at Stella despite the immense pressure against my back.

At that moment, a wicked grin curled on Drake's lips. He smugly walked up to me and grabbed me by my collar, saying in a low voice, "Do you know why your beloved grandmother ended up like this?

"Ever heard of shock and aversion therapy? Maybe you should read up about it.

"After all, Stella shocked your stupid grandmother at least 200 times before she finally forgot about you, and Stella did it all to make me happy…"

My ears suddenly rang as my pupils constricted sharply.

Damn Drake! Who gave him the nerve to do such a thing?

"Ah! Lucas, you're acting up again! Save me, Stella! This psycho is going to kill me!"

Drake suddenly screamed as he backed away from me. The crowd also quickly dispersed in a panic and ran off helter-skelter after his actions.

I gritted my teeth as the security guards continued holding me down, glaring at Stella as I said, "Stella Watson! Did you think you could just do whatever you wanted after abusing your power to send me into the mental institution?

"You'd better release me and Grandma right now, and I'll just divorce you! We can still end on a good note!

"If not, you can jolly well wait until your entire family vanishes off the face of the earth in Jondavia!"

I never imagined that I would meet Angie again under such circumstances.I sounded a little awkward when talking to her, most probably because it had been such a long time since I last saw her."I guess I'll leave the divorce proceedings to you then, Angie…"Angie took the evidence I handed to her and examined each one closely. A few seconds later, she said in a certain manner, "Don't worry. Just leave it to me."I've fought countless divorce cases—at least a hundred of them. Even without evidence of her infidelity to you, the fact that she's now in prison means that she has no choice but to sign the divorce agreement anyway!"I sighed in relief, feeling the huge burden being lifted from my shoulders at her words. Finally, my marriage to Stella was coming to an end.Yet, I couldn't quite tell if I ought to feel relieved or remorseful at that. After all, I'd just wanted ten years of my youth on someone who wasn't even worth it in the end.But now, I was all alone moving forward,

Amidst Stella's pleas for mercy, I withdrew my arm and didn't want to spare another look at her, finding her disgusting."Of course I'll let the hospital off the hook," I said.Stella's bitter expression froze for a bit before she cracked into a huge beam."That's great! I knew that you still loved me, Lucas!"Stella was very surprised. She didn't even care that I'd shaken off her arm earlier and ran up to me to hug me.However, before she could even touch me, Dad kicked her and sent her flying into the wall behind her instead. There was a loud thud as she hit the wall and slid to the ground.Dad then withdrew his leg and glared at the oblivious Stella at his feet."Do you still not understand what Lucas meant? He's divorcing you and leaving you with nothing!"And since you, as the major shareholder of the hospital, are gone, the hospital's management rights will automatically go to Lucas. But don't worry. With his talent and abilities, he will definitely make this plastic sur

Drake continued crying his heart out in a pitiful manner, just as he used to cry back when he first came to Jondavia from his little village back then.He had also gotten down on his knees and begged us to take him in, saying that he was willing to do anything.I had felt sorry for him back then and decided to take him in, but I never thought that he would end up causing such a huge disaster for me instead.Drake was a master of pretense. He was only crying now because he thought he was driven into a corner, and it was thus just a desperate attempt to gain sympathy from me.But I had been fooled once in the past. I wasn't going to let myself be fooled again for the second time. Before I could say anything in response, however, Stella, who'd been standing next to me, suddenly rushed up to him with reddened eyes."What nonsense are you saying? There's absolutely nothing wrong with my hospital!"You lunatic! You were the one who seduced me first! How dare you try to throw me under

I was going to continue hitting Stella in her utmost shameless face!My gaze sharpened as I clenched my fist harder with full force, swinging another solid slap on her burning cheek until a trickle of blood appeared in the corner of her lips.Stella's head was lowered, and her hair was a mess while her swollen cheek only continued ballooning. When she saw that I was going to hit her again, she finally couldn't stand it anymore and grabbed me by my wrist."Lucas Greene! Haven't you calmed down yet? Go home with your father first. I will go back home and properly apologize to you later…"Before she could finish speaking, I interrupted her and said, "Go home? I don't have a home with you anymore, Stella Watson! I'm divorcing you today! And you're not getting a single penny to your name!"Stella finally showed some panic when she heard me bring up divorce."You're divorcing me? Lucas, we have already been married for ten years. How could you just divorce me because of something as i

As the man's booming, authoritative voice faded, the entire hospital fell into dead silence. The sound of leather shoes approaching steadily came from the end of the hospital corridor. The crowd of reporters and onlookers immediately turned around to look, immediately catching sight of a man in a dark blue executive blazer walking in.It was Dad, Dominic Greene. There were also at least a dozen or so bodyguards and officials in suits, looking imposing and intimidating as they walked behind him.Someone recognized him and immediately gasped in shock."Isn't that Mr. Greene, the director of the Department of Commerce? Isn't he also from the reclusive family from Jondavia?""Is he here to back up his son? But his son is fine and dandy…""Are you daft? It's obvious that there's a plot twist here! Stella clenched her knuckles suddenly, her dark eyes brooding as thoughts raced in her mind.Just then, a reporter suddenly shouted at me indignantly, "That's enough, you lunatic! How are you still being so stubborn when you're about to meet your demise?"Don't worry, Dr. Watson! We're all livestreaming in real time here, and the whole nation believes that you're not like what he says you are!"As soon as those words were out of his mouth, Stella's eyes sharpened, and she immediately gave out her orders without any hesitation."Get the sedatives! We must not let this lunatic hurt anyone else before the people from the mental institution arrive!"I screamed in terror, but the security guards forcibly injected the sedatives into my veins. The cool liquid flowed into my body, and I could immediately feel my head swelling and my vision getting blurry. I was also beginning to lose strength in my limbs. The ambulance sirens were soon heard. A short while later, my wrists were cuffed b
