Chapter 1

I jerked the steering wheel to the side, pulling the car to a stop in front of a newly opened plastic surgery hospital.

The trees on either side of the hospital entrance were adorned with colorful ribbons and balloons. There was also a poster prominently displayed at the entrance, featuring a "husband and wife" in scrubs and in the midst of performing surgery.

However, it was precisely this poster that instantly ignited my anger.

The woman in the poster was my wife, Stella Watson, but the man in the mask next to her was someone else.

I stormed into the hospital at once.

Just a while later, I noticed Stella and that man standing outside the operating room while being surrounded and interviewed by countless reporters and media. When I caught sight of the man's face next to her, I felt my breath catch in my throat.

Wasn't that Drake Fletcher, Stella's brother-in-law?

"Dr. Watson! What's the secret to the loving relationship that you and your husband have maintained for so many years?"

A reporter's question quickly drew me back to the present, and I balled my fists even tighter.

Stella just laughed happily under everyone's curious gazes and hugged Drake ever closer to her.

"Our marriage is as stable as ever because I make sure to keep our exchanges fresh and exciting every single day," she said. "Otherwise, even the most loving couple would get tired of each other after more than ten years. Don't you think so?"

Tired of each other?

We had been married for ten years, and yet, Stella had stayed separately from me for five years because of "work". And now, she was telling the world that it was because she was keeping things "fresh and exciting" for other men instead?

At once, I barged my way through the crowd, rushed up to her, and slapped her hard on the face.

The slap was loud and echoed throughout the room, nearly drowning out the clicks of the camera shutters around us.

"Stella Watson! You're saying that your so-called freshness and excitement is by having an affair with your own brother-in-law?"

Five years ago, Stella's older sister, Stephanie Watson, had died of a terminal illness, and Drake had no choice but to seek refuge in Jondavia out of desperation.

I took pity on him because he was all alone, and so I gave him a job as a caretaker to my grandmother, Betsy Mallory, and paid him a salary of 40 thousand dollars a year.

But now, it turned out that he was having an affair with my wife!

The slap was loud and resounding, and the reporters and media went into a frenzy as the flashes and camera shutters kept going off.

Yet, when Stella first caught sight of me, her expression tensed, and her lips turned pale as well.

However, before I could tear into her facade any further, Drake suddenly shoved me off and yelled, "Lucas Greene! What are you doing? Who told you to come here to look for her?"

He hollered at me like he was Stella's rightful husband instead, and I was the third wheel.

I staggered backward and saw Drake shielding Stella behind him, his face filled with terror.

Also, his yelling seemed to have relieved Stella as she regained her usual coldness and said, "Lucas, you're going overboard. Get out of the way! This is not a place where you should be!"

Stella's eyes were sharp as she faced the crowd of reporters with full confidence.

"I'm sorry for the minor disruption, everyone. This man is the caretaker I hired to look after my parents, and he's a little cuckoo in the head as of late…"

Me? Cuckoo?

Just yesterday, she was all nestled in my arms, asking me if we should think about having a baby together. But now, she had turned into a complete stranger in a hilariously terrifying way. Brilliant, just brilliant!

"Stella Watson, I dare you to repeat that to me again. Who is the caretaker and who is your rightful husband here?"

I immediately retrieved a photo of my marriage certificate on my phone and showed it to the reporters, also showing them the messages and call logs between us.

Stella's pupils constricted sharply, but before she could say a word, Drake suddenly fell to the ground, his eyes red-rimmed, and began rebuking me disapprovingly.

"Lucas! I know that you were assaulted by those crazy gangsters back then, which drove you completely insane, but you can't just doctor a wedding certificate with my wife and use it against her like this!"

With Drake misleading the public on purpose, Stella began regaining her composure as color returned to her complexion.

"That's enough! How many more times must you show that fake certificate in public?"

She then ran up to me, grabbed my phone, and flung it to the ground until it broke.

"You're out of your mind! How many times do I need to explain to you that men don't have a hymen! There's no use for you to keep threatening me like that!

"I might be a plastic surgeon, but I can't repair the damage you suffered from being raped by another man!"

Stella's words immediately turned the reporters' hesitation and curiosity into that of utter contempt and mockery toward me.

"Aw, look who couldn't take it just because he got raped by a man! And yet, he's begging Dr. Watson to restore him? Idiot!"

"Did he think that if he restored his 'hymen', he wouldn't be defiled anymore? Hahaha!"

I could no longer hold back my anger as the crowd around me continued laughing and jeering at me.

I grabbed Drake's work ID, which had my name written on it, and said in a voice louder than all the others, "Drake Fletcher, did you really think that you automatically became a medical student just because you're now using my name instead?

"My name is Lucas Greene, and I'm from the Greene family. I bet you know what it means that I have that as my last name!" I said, turning to look at Stella with cold, steely eyes.

"Stella Watson, have you forgotten whose money this hospital was founded upon and built with?"

I never imagined that I would meet Angie again under such circumstances.I sounded a little awkward when talking to her, most probably because it had been such a long time since I last saw her."I guess I'll leave the divorce proceedings to you then, Angie…"Angie took the evidence I handed to her and examined each one closely. A few seconds later, she said in a certain manner, "Don't worry. Just leave it to me."I've fought countless divorce cases—at least a hundred of them. Even without evidence of her infidelity to you, the fact that she's now in prison means that she has no choice but to sign the divorce agreement anyway!"I sighed in relief, feeling the huge burden being lifted from my shoulders at her words. Finally, my marriage to Stella was coming to an end.Yet, I couldn't quite tell if I ought to feel relieved or remorseful at that. After all, I'd just wanted ten years of my youth on someone who wasn't even worth it in the end.But now, I was all alone moving forward,

Amidst Stella's pleas for mercy, I withdrew my arm and didn't want to spare another look at her, finding her disgusting."Of course I'll let the hospital off the hook," I said.Stella's bitter expression froze for a bit before she cracked into a huge beam."That's great! I knew that you still loved me, Lucas!"Stella was very surprised. She didn't even care that I'd shaken off her arm earlier and ran up to me to hug me.However, before she could even touch me, Dad kicked her and sent her flying into the wall behind her instead. There was a loud thud as she hit the wall and slid to the ground.Dad then withdrew his leg and glared at the oblivious Stella at his feet."Do you still not understand what Lucas meant? He's divorcing you and leaving you with nothing!"And since you, as the major shareholder of the hospital, are gone, the hospital's management rights will automatically go to Lucas. But don't worry. With his talent and abilities, he will definitely make this plastic sur

Drake continued crying his heart out in a pitiful manner, just as he used to cry back when he first came to Jondavia from his little village back then.He had also gotten down on his knees and begged us to take him in, saying that he was willing to do anything.I had felt sorry for him back then and decided to take him in, but I never thought that he would end up causing such a huge disaster for me instead.Drake was a master of pretense. He was only crying now because he thought he was driven into a corner, and it was thus just a desperate attempt to gain sympathy from me.But I had been fooled once in the past. I wasn't going to let myself be fooled again for the second time. Before I could say anything in response, however, Stella, who'd been standing next to me, suddenly rushed up to him with reddened eyes."What nonsense are you saying? There's absolutely nothing wrong with my hospital!"You lunatic! You were the one who seduced me first! How dare you try to throw me under

I was going to continue hitting Stella in her utmost shameless face!My gaze sharpened as I clenched my fist harder with full force, swinging another solid slap on her burning cheek until a trickle of blood appeared in the corner of her lips.Stella's head was lowered, and her hair was a mess while her swollen cheek only continued ballooning. When she saw that I was going to hit her again, she finally couldn't stand it anymore and grabbed me by my wrist."Lucas Greene! Haven't you calmed down yet? Go home with your father first. I will go back home and properly apologize to you later…"Before she could finish speaking, I interrupted her and said, "Go home? I don't have a home with you anymore, Stella Watson! I'm divorcing you today! And you're not getting a single penny to your name!"Stella finally showed some panic when she heard me bring up divorce."You're divorcing me? Lucas, we have already been married for ten years. How could you just divorce me because of something as i

As the man's booming, authoritative voice faded, the entire hospital fell into dead silence. The sound of leather shoes approaching steadily came from the end of the hospital corridor. The crowd of reporters and onlookers immediately turned around to look, immediately catching sight of a man in a dark blue executive blazer walking in.It was Dad, Dominic Greene. There were also at least a dozen or so bodyguards and officials in suits, looking imposing and intimidating as they walked behind him.Someone recognized him and immediately gasped in shock."Isn't that Mr. Greene, the director of the Department of Commerce? Isn't he also from the reclusive family from Jondavia?""Is he here to back up his son? But his son is fine and dandy…""Are you daft? It's obvious that there's a plot twist here! Maybe that lunatic…is the real Mr. Greene Junior after all!"There may be people who didn't know who the director of the Department of Commerce was, but everyone knew about the reclusive

Stella clenched her knuckles suddenly, her dark eyes brooding as thoughts raced in her mind.Just then, a reporter suddenly shouted at me indignantly, "That's enough, you lunatic! How are you still being so stubborn when you're about to meet your demise?"Don't worry, Dr. Watson! We're all livestreaming in real time here, and the whole nation believes that you're not like what he says you are!"As soon as those words were out of his mouth, Stella's eyes sharpened, and she immediately gave out her orders without any hesitation."Get the sedatives! We must not let this lunatic hurt anyone else before the people from the mental institution arrive!"I screamed in terror, but the security guards forcibly injected the sedatives into my veins. The cool liquid flowed into my body, and I could immediately feel my head swelling and my vision getting blurry. I was also beginning to lose strength in my limbs. The ambulance sirens were soon heard. A short while later, my wrists were cuffed b
