LOGINChapter 4: Damian’s POV
I stood at the side of the hospital bed, staring down at Elena’s unconscious face. Her pale skin made the faint blue veins on her temples stand out, and her right hand rested weakly on the white blanket.
My mind flashed back to yesterday in the studio—the loud crash, the heavy equipment cases tumbling down, and the exact second I saw the rack tip over. My first instinct had been to leap forward and push her out of the way. But I had stopped myself. I had pulled my hand back and watched her fall.
She deserved it. I wanted her to experience what it felt like to be abandoned by the person who claimed to love you in a life-or-death moment.
Seven years ago, during that warehouse fire, a burning wooden beam had collapsed right between us. I was trapped beneath the debris, screaming her name, but Elena had turned her back on me and run straight into the smoke to save another man instead. She had left me to burn.
I leaned over the bed, my eyes narrowing as I looked at her motionless face. Do you finally understand how it feels now, Elena? Does it feel good to be discarded like trash?
A part of me wished she would just lie quietly by my side like this forever—helpless, dependent, and forced to rely on me for everything.
Elena’s eyelids fluttered, and she let out a low groan as she began to wake up.
The moment I saw her stir, I immediately turned around, reached for Chloe standing nearby, and pulled her tightly into my arms.
Elena opened her eyes, blinking against the harsh fluorescent lights of the room. When her gaze landed on me holding Chloe, her posture instantly went rigid.
"Did you really have to go to such pathetic lengths, Elena?" I asked, my voice dripping with cold mockery. "Landing yourself in the hospital and ruining the entire photo shoot—all because you couldn't bear to watch me taking couple's photos with Chloe?"
Chloe rested her head against my chest, playing along.
I smirked, looking down at Elena. "If you get out of that bed right now, get on your knees, apologize, and beg me properly, I might still consider forgiving you."
Elena glared at us, her eyes burning with pure, unadulterated hatred. She didn't cry. She didn't beg.
"The two of you deserve each other!" Elena spat out, her voice raw with rage. "You are both disgustingly fake, and you should be locked away together forever!"
Before I could reply, Elena reached out her left hand, grabbed the glass water pitcher from the bedside table, and slammed it viciously against the metal tray.
CRASH!
Shattered glass exploded across the room. A stray flying shard sliced straight across Chloe’s cheek, leaving a thin line of bright red blood.
"Ah!" Chloe shrieked, clutching her cheek in horror as blood seeped through her fingers.
"Are you crazy?!" I yelled, stepping forward and shoving Elena’s hand back onto the bed.
I quickly scooped Chloe up into my arms, holding her close to protect her from any more flying debris. I turned back to Elena, my jaw clenched in anger.
"If you still want your mother's project documents," I said coldly, staring her down, "you had better show up at Chloe’s birthday party tomorrow."
Without waiting for her response, I turned on my heel and carried Chloe out of the hospital room.
Chapter 13: Elena’s POVThe white flash of the camera hit my eyes, burning a bright, ugly spot into my vision."Did you dump Damian the second Carter offered you a corporate line?" The reporter pushed the microphone closer, almost knocking over my water glass. "Are you using Whitmore Legacy Holdings as a cover for a private corporate payout?"My heart was beating wildly against my ribs, but I didn't hide my face. I didn't cringe, and I didn't scream. I sat bolt upright in the leather booth, fixing the reporter with a cold, unblinking glare. Years of keeping my mouth shut around Damian’s high-society friends had taught me one hard rule: the second you panic on camera, they win.Carter was already on his feet. He stepped between the lens and my face, his massive frame blocking the light entirely. He didn't touch the reporter, but his presence was so dark and imposing that the photographer involuntarily took a step back."Put the camera down," Carter said. His voice wasn't raised, b
Chapter 12: Elena’s POVThe rain had stopped by the time we left the radio station, leaving the city streets wet and slick under the streetlights.I sat in the passenger seat of Carter’s car, staring down at my hands. My knuckles were pale from gripping my tablet. My throat was dry, and my shoulders ached from the sheer stress of the live interview.I had stopped Chloe from airing her lies on the radio, but as I looked at my phone, the screen was already flashing with news alerts. Entertainment blogs were clipping the audio, turning Chloe’s panicked breakdown into a viral soundbite.Damian wasn't going to take that hit quietly. I knew him too well after seven years. When he couldn't win on facts, he destroyed the person standing in his way."You're quiet," Carter said, keeping his eyes on the road."I'm waiting for him to hit back," I said, looking out the side window. "Damian won't fight the copyright claim in court yet. He knows he'll lose. He's going to make this dirty."Car
Chapter 11: Elena’s POVThe black sedan cut through the heavy city traffic, the neon signs of the downtown district blurring against the rain-slicked side windows.I sat in the passenger seat, my knees pressed together, staring down at my hands. My knuckles were pale from how tightly I was gripping my tablet. My mind was racing through every line of my mother’s original session logs, every master timestamp, every legal filing. My chest felt so tight I could barely draw a deep breath. For seven years, every time I spoke up against Damian, he flipped the script. He was a master at turning my valid anger into hysterical drama, making me feel like I was crazy for defending my own work. Doing it in private was terrifying enough. Doing it live on the air to half a million listeners made my stomach churn.Carter kept both hands on the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. He didn't turn on the radio, and he didn't offer unsolicited advice. He just drove fast and clean."You
Chapter 10: Elena’s POVI ended the call with Damian, pulled the phone away from my ear, and threw it onto the sofa.My heart was hammering against my ribs—not out of fear, but from the sudden, sharp rush of adrenaline. For seven years, Damian had made me feel small, invisible, and completely reliant on his permission to even breathe in the music industry. Seeing him lose his mind on live television while the entire press room stared at that bright red injunction banner felt like the first real breath of fresh air I had taken in nearly a decade."That was a quick call," Carter said, stepping over from the doorway. He looked at the phone on the couch, then back up at my face. "He sounded furious from across the room.""He was," I said, leaning back against the wooden desk. "He couldn't even form proper sentences. He just demanded to know what I put on the screen.""He thought you were going to pack your bags and beg him for mercy after five days," Carter said plainly. "You cut his
Chapter 9: Elena’s POVI stared at the unknown number on my phone screen, reading the text three times.Carter's company has been quietly buying up debt linked to your mother's old studio... He married you because he's coming for the rest of her catalogue. My stomach tightened, but I didn't let my mind spin into a panic. Seven years with Damian had taught me one thing: whenever he was about to lose control, he tried to make me doubt everything around me. This text didn't come from a concerned insider. It came straight from Damian or one of his lackeys, sent specifically to make me hesitate right before Chloe launched her theft.Instead of hiding in my room with the doubt, I grabbed my laptop, pulled up the master files, and walked straight out into the hallway. If this contract marriage was going to work, I needed facts, not secrets.I walked down to the main floor study where I knew Carter was still working. The door was half-open, warm light spilling into the hallway. I knocke
Chapter 8: Elena’s POVI stared at the glowing screen of my phone, my thumb pressing so hard against the glass that the tip turned white.Starlight Symphony. That was the flagship track from my mother’s unfinished album—the one song she spent three years working on before she got sick. I knew every piano key, every vocal arrangement, and every change in tempo because I had spent my teenage years sitting on the floor of her studio listening to her play it.Now, Chloe’s name was listed on the registration database as the sole composer."Is that track from the files you retrieved?" Carter asked, his voice cutting through the heavy silence of the room."Yes," I said, my voice tight. "She took the main melody demo. Damian must have handed it to her from the office server before I packed my things.""I can have my corporate legal team file an emergency injunction within the hour," Carter said directly. "We can freeze Blackwell Entertainment's registration before it passes the prelimi
