“I’m sure you guys will feel at home in your daddy’s house,” Fay replied to Mike’s words. She closed the car door quickly so she wouldn’t have to listen to the boy’s babbling. Then she turned back to her apartment.

Cade himself felt no need to look at the girl again. When he signaled Langdon who was driving to start the car, the vehicle moved slowly away from the place.

Mika had been crying since she got into the car. But the child didn’t say anything. She was upset with everyone. According to him, no one supported his wish to invite Mommy to live with them. Not even Mike, her brother.

Cade tried to talk to the little girl, but Mika was sulking and angry. Only Mike replied occasionally with short answers that made Cade think about how much harder it was to deal with a child than an adult.
