The guard didn't act surprised that Thane was talking. “She’s only killed one guard, yet.” He responded.

Thane's eyes darkened. “Protect our members as much as you can, keep them out of her sight. There's no telling what she'll do this time.”

The guard nodded. “Yes, Alpha.”

His eyes narrowed on the guard, his heart swelling with bliss despite the situation. He was pleased that these few people were still loyal, still saw him as their Alpha. He was determined to make sure he got the rest of his members, and fix everything Alexa had destroyed.

He would start from within, from the fact that she didn't know he had somehow broken her spell over him and was already building a strong base to stand against her when the time came.

He turned back to the guard. “Keep people stationed everywhere. The minute anyone sights her or her team, bring the information to me as quickly as you can.”

The guard nodded. “We’re already on it, Alpha.”

Thane nodded, motioning for the guard to leave. However, as h

Lira took a step forward, daring to close the distance between she and her mother. After the second step, her mother's smile faded away and an ugly frown took it's place. Her heart skipped. “Mother…”“You're such a failure, Lira,” her mother said. “You'll never amount to anything.”She took a step back, shock breaking through her. “Not you too, mother,” She mumbled, her eyes swelling with tears. “Please… not you too. You're the only good memory I have. Don't… please…”She knew she wasn't actually talking to her mother, that this was just some manipulation yet it still hurt like it was real. Her life had always been torture, her mother was her only reason to keep living. Hearing those words from her, even as a delusion, it cut open a deep wound that had never really healed. The woman sneered. “You really think you can save the world, huh? You're hopeless, you're helpless. Your powers are nothing, and you're just a child.”Her legs wobbled, her balance tipping dangerously. “No! That's n

Lira was wide awake. She was even standing. The first thing I did was glance at the stab wound, and yes, it was still swirling with dark smoke and shadow tendrils.I swallowed, my heart pounding for a reason I couldn't place. “Lira, are you okay?” I muttered. She didn't answer. She didn't even look at me. Her eyes were fixed on something and that something was neither of us.I dared to take a step forward. “Lira…”I could barely take another when a hand roughly grabbed mine. I turned to see my alternate staring at me with concerned eyes. She shook her head. “Mira, this is fishy. I'd advice you to not get any closer.”I furrowed my brows in confusion. “But what if she's getting better? What if she needs us? I…”“Does she look like she's getting better?” Alternate Luca snapped at me.He was right. Her eyes were cold and void, staring at that empty space with such focus that it looked like there was something in front of her she was about to tear apart bit by bit.Still, I shot alternate

My chest felt empty. Yet, I was feeling everything and nothing, all at the same time.“Yes,” Alternate Mira stared at me, blinking once, then turning back to Lira, still lying on the floor.“What do you mean, ‘Mother’?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. She turned to me again, looking startled by my words. “My mother is back at the village.” She said simply.I parted my lips, my head bending to the side. “What village? You mean the pack?”She shook her head. “No.” More confusion filtered into her eyes, before she shook it off, saying. “Look, we have to get her back there as soon as possible. She'll get the help she needs, but we don't have time to waste. I'll tell you everything you need to know.”I bit my lip, swallowing the rock lump in my throat. “Yeah, you're right! You're right. Uhhh…” My words were failing me.Luca stepped in, probably sensing my apprehension… and the reason. “How far is it? The village?”His alternate gave an answer. “About 12 hours. If we leave now, th

The shadows moved with an unnatural silence, their movements fluid and almost ethereal. Mira's group fought bravely, their swords clashing with the shadows' darkness. However, their valiant efforts seemed to be getting them nowhere. The shadows were relentless, pressing the attack with a ferocity that left Mira's group gasping for breath. Luca stumbled back, his sword arm trembling with fatigue. Nathan's face was set in a grim mask, his eyes flashing with determination.Lira fought with a fierce cry, her sword slicing through the shadows with deadly precision. But even she was beginning to tire, her movements slowing as the shadows closed in.Mira fought on, her sword flashing in the fading light. She was a whirlwind of motion, her blade slicing through the shadows with deadly accuracy. Yet despite her skill, she couldn't shake the feeling that they were fighting a losing battle. As the fight raged on, Mira's group began to take damage. Luca's arm was bruised and battered, Nathan's si

I felt her green eyes pierce into me, like she was trying to look deep into my soul. “How do you intend to do that?” She finally asked.“You’re the ones who'd be sleeping. We can fight them off.” I said.“You mean try,” Luca mumbled. It was then I turned to my crew. They weren't smiling, and for a minute, my heart skipped.“Mira, can we talk for a bit?” Lira said.I swallowed, before nodding. She held my hand and pulled me away without another word. Luca and Nathan followed, and soon we were standing in a circle, whisper-yelling at each other.“What are you doing?” Lira questioned. So stupid of me to have thought they were on the same page as I was. I should have asked.“Look, I'm sorry. I should have asked you guys for your opinion first, but this is really the only other choice we have.” I said, my voice low as well.Luca snarled lowly. “Oh no, it isn't. This isn't what we came here for.”I clicked my tongue. “Do you seriously want to just walk away and let them die?”“Mira, we coul
