William returned from the office with an uneasy feeling that had been lingering since the afternoon. Throughout the meeting, his mind had never truly focused. The numbers on the presentation screen seemed blurred, the client’s voice sounded distant, and for some reason, the image of Camelia’s face that morning kept appearing in his thoughts.

He tried to convince himself that it was only temporary. Maybe Camelia was really not feeling well. Maybe she was just too tired.

But as the night drew closer, the restlessness inside him grew stronger.

His car stopped in the apartment parking lot. William stepped out quickly, his suit jacket hanging neatly over his shoulder, but his mind was in chaos. He entered the elevator and stared at his reflection in the mirror. He looked uneasy.

The elevator doors opened.

He walked toward his unit and entered the door code quickly.

Click.

The door opened.

William stepped inside—and immediately froze.

The room felt… empty.

Not just quiet.

But empty.

There was no sound of the television. No faint trace of Camelia’s perfume lingering in the air. No work bag resting on the sofa.

“Camelia?” he called out, half loudly.

No answer.

He walked to the bedroom and pushed the door open quickly.

William felt his heart beating faster. He opened the wardrobe.

Empty.

The rows of dresses that were usually neatly arranged were gone. The work blazers Camelia always wore to important meetings had disappeared as well.

“No…” he muttered softly.

He opened the dressing table drawer.

There were no pieces of jewelry. None of Camelia’s small belongings.

William stepped back, his breathing beginning to quicken. He walked back to the living room, checking the kitchen, the bathroom, the balcony—as if hoping Camelia would suddenly appear from a corner of the room.

But there was no one there.

“Camelia, where are you?” he called again, louder this time.

Silence answered him.

Panic began to spread slowly, gripping his chest. His hand reached into his suit pocket, pulling out his phone in a hurried motion. He dialed his assistant’s number.

The call connected.

“Hello, Sir?”

“Find Mrs. Camelia. Find her no matter what!” William’s voice sounded tense, far from the confident tone he usually had.

His assistant paused for a moment before replying, “Yes, Sir. We will find Madam.”

“Use all available connections. Contact the driver, contact the apartment security, check the airport, check hotels. I want to know where she is right now!”

“Yes, Sir.”

The call ended.

William stood still in the middle of the living room. His heart was pounding irregularly. He tried to calm himself, but his mind was filled with worst-case possibilities.

Did Camelia find out something?

Did she see something?

Suddenly, the image of last night appeared in his head—the bridal suite, Serena, the words he had spoken without thinking.

William swallowed hard.

“Does Camelia know that I cheated with her best friend?” he muttered softly.

The question felt like a hard slap.

All this time, he had been certain he could control the situation. He was sure Camelia loved him too much to leave. Too dependent on him to truly walk away from everything.

But this empty apartment said otherwise.

His phone suddenly rang, making him flinch.

Serena’s name appeared on the screen.

William stared at it for a few seconds before finally answering.

“Hello?” His voice sounded flat.

“Darling,” Serena’s spoiled voice came from the other end, “I want to sleep with you tonight.”

Usually, a sentence like that would make William smile in satisfaction. Usually, he would respond in a teasing tone.

But tonight, his body felt tense instead.

He looked around the empty room once again.

“Not tonight,” he replied shortly.

Serena sounded surprised. “Why? Isn’t Camelia not feeling well? You said she wouldn’t suspect anything.”

William let out a rough breath. “She’s not in the apartment.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“She left.”

The towering glass structure that once bore the name Thorne Industries was covered in massive sheets of white fabric. Cranes hummed in the morning air, and the sound of heavy metal being dismantled echoed through the streets of the financial district. For the public, it was a corporate restructuring. For William, it was the sound of his soul being shredded.William stood on the opposite sidewalk, blending into the crowd of morning commuters. He was unrecognizable. The man who used to wear three-thousand-dollar Italian suits was now draped in a cheap, neon-yellow safety vest over a faded flannel shirt. His hands, once soft and manicured, were calloused and stained with grease. He had taken a job with a local contractor, moving crates and clearing debris at a construction site three blocks away. It was backbreaking work that left him too exhausted to think, which was exactly what he wanted. If he stopped moving, the memories would catch up to him.He watched as a massive crane lowered t

The lights of the international airport shimmered like diamonds against the night sky, but to Serena, every flash felt like a prying eye. She hurried through the business class departure terminal, dragging her Louis Vuitton suitcase with her chin held high. Behind her oversized designer sunglasses, her eyes darted restlessly, scanning every corner. She had done it. Three million dollars sat securely in offshore accounts, and the Aero turbine secrets had been sold to Julian Vane. She felt not a shred of guilt leaving the crumbling wreck that was William. To her, William was merely a stepping stone that had finally cracked, and she was far too clever to sink with him."Flight to Zurich is opening soon," she muttered, checking the monitor.Zurich was a fresh start. There, she would be a top-tier socialite, far from the shadow of the "boring" Camelia and the suffocating emotional demands of William. She reached into her bag for her passport and boarding pass. However, as she reached the d

The executive suite of Thorne Industries, once a symbol of power and prestige, now felt like a mausoleum. William sat behind his desk, the air thick with the smell of stale cigarettes and expensive scotch. The silence was absolute, save for the rhythmic ticking of a grandfather clock that seemed to be counting down the seconds until his total collapse. He hadn't showered in two days; his designer suit was rumpled, and a thick stubble darkened his hollow cheeks. His phone buzzed on the mahogany surface. It was Marcus, calling from the lobby."Sir, the forensic IT team has finished their audit of the central server. They... they found something you need to see. It’s not about the code."William’s heart skipped a beat. "Bring it up. Now."Minutes later, Marcus entered, clutching a tablet. He looked as though he wanted to be anywhere else in the world. He placed the device in front of William, his eyes downcast. "We were looking for the 'Master Key' trail, but we stumbled upon a series of

The azure sky over the Balinese coast that morning was far brighter than the tinted glass of the skyscrapers in the capital. Camelia took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of sea salt and jasmine mingling with the warm tropical air. In her hand, a tablet displayed the stock chart for Thorne Industries, which continued its sharp, agonizing dive. She didn’t smile. She didn’t feel sad either. Those emotions had died in that hotel corridor. What remained now was a cold, calculated clarity.Camelia sipped her black coffee, unsweetened. She sat on the terrace of a private villa she had purchased years ago under the name of her most loyal personal assistant—a middle-aged woman named Maya, whom she regarded more as a mother figure than an employee. For the past five years, Camelia hadn't just been working for William; she had been quietly weaving her own safety net. She was no naive woman who would surrender her entire life into one basket, no matter how sincere her love had once been."Madam

The glass doors of the headquarters, which usually felt like the entrance to a kingdom William ruled with an iron fist, now felt like the jaws of a trap. As he stepped into the lobby, the atmosphere was thick with a tension he had never experienced before. Usually, his employees moved with a synchronized efficiency, but today, they huddled in small groups, whispering frantically. The moment they saw him, the silence that followed was even more deafening than the gossip.William didn't stop to acknowledge anyone. He headed straight for the executive elevator, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached. When the doors opened on the top floor, his assistant, Marcus, was already waiting, looking like he hadn’t slept in forty-eight hours. His tie was loose, and his eyes were bloodshot."Sir, thank God you’re here," Marcus said, his voice cracking. "The situation at the factory has escalated. It wasn’t just a calibration error. It’s a systemic failure. The software update Madam was supposed to au

The morning sun streaming through the penthouse windows usually brought warmth, but for William, that light now felt like the harsh glare of an interrogation lamp. He woke up with a pounding headache. Years of habit took over his subconscious; he reached for the side of the bed, expecting to find the glass of water and the vitamin tablet Camelia always prepared whenever he came home stressed or exhausted.Instead, his hand only brushed against cold, disheveled sheets.Beside him, Serena was still fast asleep. Her blonde hair was scattered across the pillow, and her makeup, which she hadn't removed the night before, left dark smudges under her eyes. No water. No vitamins. No aroma of steaming coffee wafting from the kitchen.William let out a long sigh, trying to stave off the emptiness beginning to gnaw at his chest. He got up and walked to the kitchen. The sight there made him even more nauseous. The sink was piled high with dirty glasses from the wine bottles they had emptied last n
