Regina's POV

"So that's it? You just look at her and automatically make her the manager? What the hell? What's even her years of experience!" Dan continued to scream at Nicholas as we walked outside. The meeting with Lloyd had gone so smooth--the woman was so gentle and quiet all through!

Nicholas had insisted she remained inside and not see us out. But of course Dan couldn't just sit and remain in there. He dashed out after us.

"Hey can you even hear me?!" He demanded.

Nicholas had a bland expression on his face. "I can hear you, I just chose to ignore. People can be so slow at times, don't you think so, Regina?"

I blinked at how casual Nicholas was trying to act with me!

"What, you guys are besties now? What the hell, Reggie?" Dan turned to face me, those charming eyes fixated on me waiting for an answer I didn't have for him.

But I was still so angry at Dan for being such a dick, even till the end!

"Regina, hold on!" He reached for my hand and held me tight, locking eyes with me again. I always felt sorry for him, and maybe that was why I loved him. He was a helpless fool who couldn't anything on his own!

"The car is this way," Nicholas said, one glance at me and I already wanted to run after him. Damn, those cold cold eyes were back again.

Dan stepped forward, putting a barrier between Nicholas and I. "I don't think so. You go on your way, I'm taking my Regina with me."

I scoffed. This was starting to get infuriating! "Let go of me, Dan. Right now!" It was an effort to make my voice so bold.

"Listen, I know you're still so angry but we need to talk!" Dan insisted. "We need to--"

Nicholas' next move was shocking. He reached for my hand and broke off the contact between Dan and I, his expression effortlessly daring.

"I believe you have ears, and they work. Let go of her." He commanded. Dan blinked, looking startled. Then now he was laughing.

"So this is it, huh? You chose to end things with me to follow a rich boss?"

It took everything in me not to slap Dan. "You fool. You dumped me, and chose Kimberly over me? How dare you talk like this! I swear it Dan, if you ever call me again, much less dare to meet me face to face like this! I guess I won't mind paying a visit to prison after I've killed your sorry ass!"

Nicholas held me back as I forced myself forward towards Dan. I sighed, taking it as a sign to leave. Walking out, I was glad Dan did not bother to call me back. I was starting to lose my temper.

Shortly after I'd stormed out, Nicholas appeared behind me--thankfully, without Dan. Something made my heart to skip a bit as Nicholas appeared before me. Tall, handsome--why couldn't I get over this fact! And the way he had stood up for me? Defending me against that brat and his mother...

"I'm sorry, I just got so worked up and angry--"

"You know your way to your house, right? Good day, miss."

I blinked, wishing he had just spoken some strange language I couldn't understand.

"Sorry?" Was all I could bring myself to say.

Nicholas paused in front of me, thick brows furrowed as he looked me up and down. I didn't like that look. Where had that friendly manner gone to?!

"Do you want me to give you a ride home? Is that what colleagues do now? I have work, Remi. Go home."

My insides were boiling but I manged to keep it cool. "It's Regina. And I thought you were saying the truth! I thought I was actually promoted!"

"Did I say otherwise now? Resume to work on Monday morning, not even a minute past resumption time. Get all necessary documents from the HR department and...whatever." And with that, he turned to leave.

"Could you...!um," I bumped right into him as he stopped abruptly when he turned to face me, my head leaning in on his shoulders and I could have sworn even my bed didn't feel that comfortable--damn!

My heart was racing as I made a huge fool of myself. Nothing happened for the next three seconds.

"If you don't want the job offer, just say so instead of violently attacking me." His voice was calm, collected. He almost didn't sound like a bully.

I moved back, standing up straight. "I'm sorry, sir! But please could you drop me off to work?" My place was not far from work so it would really save me transport fare.

His expression was always intimidating because I wonder all the time what was always going on in his head whenever he glared at me like that. And it was frustrating as it always remained a mystery.

"Get in."

Hearing those words, I hopped in, and vowed to remain quiet all through the ride back. Deep down, I still couldn't believe I had been promoted to a manager, just like that! My salary will be doubled now. Plus, I too was a boss now.

I knew I vowed to remain quiet through the ride, but three minutes in and my big mouth just couldn't shut up!

"Please can I ask you this?" I blurted out. One...two...three... No response? Swallowing my pride, I went on. "What was all that about? I mean with the Keepers and all?"

Instantly, Nicholas replied. "You'll have to be specific there."

I shifted uncomfortably, "um, I mean...who are the Keepers? They seemed to make Lloyd shiver. And she isn't one to ever shiver."

"Even when the temperature is harshly below zero degrees?" A snicker followed. He seemed so amused.

I rolled my eyes and proceeded. "I know you're trying to ignore me. I was only just curious, that's all. Lloyd, that woman? She's a witch. I want to know what made her act like that."

A frown appeared on his face. "She must be a witch without the ugly nose and pointy hat, right?"

"Damn it." I muttered, biting my lips in frustration. This was the man I would be working with?

"That's a job for you. Find out who the Keepers are, tell me everything you've found out by Monday when you resume."

Great. Now I was getting homeworks?

"Yes, I'll try. But you know, I'm not so curious again." I got nothing, no smile, not even a frown. "But yes. I will do that and get back to you on Monday." I quickly added. "Sir."

"Call me sir again, and I'm going to straight out hand you over to the Keepers."

My stomach churn in fear as he threatened. It made me shut my big mouth though, but then all I could think about was who the hell these Keepers were.

I want to know, and I will.

Regina's POVThe moment I saw her, I knew I wasn't hallucinating. It was Cassandra waltzing into the building like she hadn't burned every bridge behind her.Hair flawless. Heels sharp enough to stab. A smug smile carved into her face like she'd just landed a million-dollar deal.I stood frozen near the elevator, clutching my coffee like it could shield me from her venom."You look... refreshed," she purred, eyes sweeping me from head to toe. "Nicholas always did have a thing for polished brunettes."I didn't flinch. "And you always did have a thing for slinking back after getting thrown out.""Thrown out?" She laughed, stepping closer. "Darling, I was never really gone. Just biding my time."Security should've banned her. HR should've locked her out. But somehow, some idiot had let her back in—for a "final exit meeting," according to her smug little speech. Right. And I was Queen of England.I marched straight to Nicholas's office, every step a silent prayer that he hadn't invited he

Regina's POVI knew Cassandra wouldn't go quietly. People like her never did.The morning after the board meeting, a leak appeared online—anonymous, of course. A gossip piece claiming I had "manipulated my way to the top using charm and favors." Accompanied by a blurry photo of me and Nicholas exiting his car. They were playing dirty again.I leaned back in my chair, letting the fire build in my chest. The old me would've cried, maybe hid. The new me? She welcomed the flames.Marching into Nicholas's office, I walked in with full armor. "We need to kill this story."He was already on the phone. "No, we're issuing a statement. She earned her place here. End of discussion." He looked at me. "Damage control is underway. HR, PR, and legal are handling it.""Do you think it's Cassandra?"He nodded. "She's sloppy when she's emotional. And right now? She's desperate.""Then let's end this."Nicholas gave me a sharp look. "You sure?""I'm done waiting for people to save me."I went back to my

Regina's POV By lunchtime, I was a headline and a cautionary tale. Every side-eye, every hushed whisper—it all boiled into one hard truth: I wasn't just fighting for my job anymore. I was fighting for my name. And I wasn't going to lose. I locked my office door and called the only person who'd understand. "Tell me it's time," I said. A deep chuckle answered. "Regina Moore calling me in the middle of a scandal? Must be bad." "Devon, it's a war zone." Devon—a PR fixer, a marketing genius, and my friend from college—was infamous for turning messes into miracles. "I saw the photo," he said. "You look great, by the way. But yeah, the narrative is ugly." "I need to rewrite it." "You want to play offense?" "No," I said coldly. "I want to scorch the damn field." An hour later, I was in a private café downtown, hoodie up, sunglasses on, laptop open. Devon slid into the seat opposite mine, his grin sharp and dangerous. "You want me to spin the truth?" he asked. "No. I want you to

Regina's POV I wasn't expecting him to show up at my apartment. Not tonight. Not after the week I'd had—after the disaster at the investors' pitch, the tabloid photos of Nicholas and Cassandra, the awkward silence he'd maintained like a coward too afraid to tell me the truth. But there he was, tall and exhausted in my doorway, holding a bottle of wine like we were some kind of normal couple trying to patch things up with Pinot Noir and apologies. "Can I come in?" he asked, voice rough. I stared at him, torn between slamming the door in his face and dragging him inside just to scream. Instead, I stepped aside. "You've got five minutes." He walked in slowly, like he wasn't sure if the floor would hold him. Or maybe he was just that used to treading carefully around me now. "I didn't kiss her," he said without preamble. I raised a brow, folding my arms. "Oh, so she fell mouth-first onto your lips? How tragic." "It was a setup. She kissed me, and the cameras were already waitin

Regina's POV Lolita didn't scream. She didn't cry damn it! She didn't even blink! She just stared at Nicholas like she'd finally seen the monster she always suspected he could become. "You've made a mistake," she said in a low voice. "One you won't recover from." "I already did," he replied. "The day I let you run this place unchecked." The room was still reeling from the vote, the silence so heavy it nearly choked me. Board members began quietly packing their things, avoiding eye contact with both Nicholas and Lolita like they were afraid either one might spontaneously combust. Lolita stood slowly, smoothing down her blazer with grace that almost masked her venom. "To all of you," she said to the board, "don't think I'll forget this. When the shareholders start asking questions—and believe me, they will—I hope you have answers." Then she turned to me. "You think this is over? Little girl, I raised empires with men like Nicholas under my heel. You're a passing phase.

Regina's POV Lolita didn't go down without a fight. The moment Jenna's footage ended, the boardroom was plunged into chaos. Some members looked stunned, others confused, but Lolita? She stood perfectly still. Silent. Calculating.Nicholas leaned toward her. "You've lost control. Walk away while you still have your dignity."Lolita laughed softly. "You think I built this empire by folding at the first storm?"She turned to the board. "That video proves nothing. It could have been faked. Deepfakes are common now. Audio manipulation? Cheap and easy. Do you really think we'll make corporate decisions based on a tech intern's PowerPoint show?"Jenna bristled. "I'm a digital forensics expert, not an intern."Lolita ignored her. "Anyone can be made to say anything these days. What we saw was a performance—crafted by two people who are sleeping together and desperate to take over the company."Every gaze swiveled toward Nicholas and me. She smiled like a woman throwing gasoline on an open fl
