Third Pov

Dan sat with his legs crossed on the sofa, hands cupping his cheeks as he thought about how Regina had embarrassed him like that.

"Regina and that stupid man!" He muttered. He was still lost in thoughts when a voice asked beside him.

"What man?"

Startled, Dan turned to find Kimberly seated beside him. Short and petite with long blonde hair that formed wavy curls at the end. She had just made her hair. He realized he would have to give compliments, even though he didn't feel the need to. Maybe if he kept quiet, she would storm out angrily and leave him alone.

"Huh?" He said at last, seeing she did not leave.

"You mentioned Regina and a man. What man?" Kimberly repeated.

Dan shook his head and sat well. "Oh it's nothing." So he had been thinking out loud? "How long have you been here?"

Kimberly frowned. "We have a date. Remember? We agreed by 5pm. It's almost 5."

A date? Why didn't he remember that?

"Oh. But I'm kind of busy now. Maybe another time." He knew he sounded like a fool but he just couldn't help himself.

"Excuse you? I got all dressed up for you!"

Dan swallowed. "I never asked you to do that." It still hurt him that of all the women in the world, his mother forced him to be with Kimberly. And she was supposed to be Regina's best friend! How could she act like all was fine and not feel any guilt at all?

"Your mother tells me that Regina came around today. As well as her sex toy."

Anger filled Dan's eyes, "watch what you say, Kim. She's still your friend, you know?"

Kimberly rolled her eyes. "Oh please. You know I'm not lying. She's using him for money, and sex too. When was the last time you slept with her? You guys were always doing things secretly, keeping it low and all. She must have been using you too. Have you not ever thought about it?"

Dan jumped up, "I'm going to pretend like you didn't just say that. Regina is a sweet lady, and you know it. She loves me and I love her. Sorry, but you know the only reason I proposed to you is because I'm a foolish mommy's boy who does what she wants all the time." It angered him more that what he was saying was the truth, especially the part about him.

"She hasn't been cheating on me. She never cheated on me before!"

Kimberly swallowed. The hurt in those words struck her as a sharp pain. But she refused to show it. Her aim was already getting successful. She would do everything to make Dan hate Regina and fall in love with her.

"You're pained because you know I'm right. She got a promotion? Ha! You think people just get promoted?"

"You really are getting more close to my mom than I thought. That's pathetic, Kim."

"Call me Kimberly! I'm not that little kid you used to know when we were in school."

"In my eyes, you'll always be that little kid."

"Regina is a little kid too, you were a senior when you knew her and you always respect her--"

"Kimberly, you will always be that little kid to me. Remember when you were seven and you got stuck in the fridge and the coldness got stuck to your bum and you wouldn't stop crying? You're like my kid sis, a sis I never had! Wake up from this fantasy that I'll ever have any romantic feelings for you."

Kimberly's cheeks burned red as she jumped up to her feet. "So? You were like 9 years old--"

"--ten! I was turning 11 in months!" Dan yelled out.

"You were like a kid too. So what? That doesn't mean you get to treat me like that 7 years old kid. Dan, we can still..." Kimberly leaned forward to Dan, her hands caressing him. She forced her boobs to his chest, arms wrapped around his neck. "We can still make things work!"

Dan waited a few seconds. It was just to be certain, to see if his dick would even jump up in arousal but nope. Nothing happened. That was when he pushed her away from him. "I feel nothing for you. You've been asking me out since you were twelve! I've been saying no since then. Why won't you just give up, Kim?" Dan walked out, ignoring whatever she had to say next.

Hot tears rushed down her eyes as she watched him turn and leave. She bursted out, crying like a baby. "Why do you love her more than me! Why!"

After crying her eyes out, she reached for her phone and began to make a voice note to her friends, Mary and Rita. She didn't even make any effort to wipe off her tears.

"Regina, she came over today and tried to seduce Dan! He's still so startled. I think we need to do something about her. And fast. Start making suggestions you guys..I'm so terrified I might lose Dan!"

***

Dan's POV

As I stormed out, I hoped Kimberly had not cried too much. Everytime, I tell her the truth and she starts to cry like she didn't already know it before! I couldn't be with her, I don't love her!

Heaving in a deep sigh, I took my phone out and without thinking, dialed her number. "The whole reason we got in such a heated argument like that was because of you anyway," I held on the call, listening as it kept ringing. "Damn it, Regina! Just pick up the phone."

I tried again and again until before I knew it, I had dialed her number eight fucking times! She was ignoring me on purpose. But why? All I wanted was just to talk to her. That's all.

Bob sighted me and came forward. "Hey boss, you're going somewhere?"

I shook my head at first, then realize that maybe I did needed to be somewhere at that moment. "Wait, where's Pecos?"

Bob shrugged, somehow that his big buffy body made it look like it had just  swallowed his whole neck.

"Whatever. You know what? I do have somewhere to be at, right now. Take me to Regina's."

Regina's POVI felt the need to sleep, but I couldn't. There was still the assignment Nicholas had given me about finding out who the Keepers were, and now, here I was thinking about what to wear on Monday as the manager. There I thought; the urgent need to shuffle though my wardrobe and filter all my good fits was needed. And so, after about three hours of thorough selection, I frowned at what a mess I'd made. "Huh? So I'm kinda poor? I don't have much big women's outfit, do I?" My head was banging but I still managed to put the clean clothes in their right positions, throwing away to one corner those clothes I knew I couldn't wear out. Another one hour and I had sorted out most of the mess I'd just made. There was a bang on the door. "Huh, who the hell is that?" It couldn't be Rita and Mary, definitely not Kimberly."...Reggie let me in now!" The voice was faint and distant, but clearly I knew who it was. Nicholas' POV For the third time, I successfully ignored the phone vibrating on the table. "It doesn't even matter who you are at this point," I gulped in the last content in my wine glass. This was really such a delicious meal, I had to give Mike some credits some time to come."Do you want some more or you're okay?" Speaking of the Devil, Mike came out from the kitchen and drew the seat opposite me to sit on the dining table. His brows raised."I will never be interested in you romantically. Seriously, it's creepy. Is that why you're over at my house, cooking for me? It's lame man, go get a life!"With his expression still so calm, he glared at me. "So you're full. Okay. What about more wine?."I rolled my eyes and as if the universe was laughing at me, my phone began to vibrate again. Groaning out in frustration, I took the phone and silenced it from the side button. "Why would they call me at this hour of the night!""Who's calling?""I dunno. And I don't care." I said with a shr

Regina POV It was certainly surprising Nicholas asked me out--to a bar--but who cares! Now, I wasn't one to be social, and I've been with Dan nearly my whole life. I can't remember what it was like seeing other guys or partying and all of that, since Dan's family were very strict with not embarrassing yourself outside so you don't attract unwanted news. "Wait, so I'm gonna be dating my boss now? Like all these hot one night stand stories with hot boss, ha!" I slipped in my underwear. Turning towarfs the mirror to see my ass in my panties, I gave myself a proud smile. "They might not be big, but they sure damn are nice as hell!"I wore my short dress and managed to adjust the zipper at the side. It didn't expose too much of my cleavage but it was still such a sexy sight to see. Deep down, I felt sad and pathetic that the only reason I would get my old job back would be sleeping with my boss. But then I slept with Dan and what did I get in return?"Damn it, we don't wanna be late!" I

My attention was on Nicholas and his on mine."You don't actually mean this, do you?" I asked, obsessively waiting for his response."The part where I'm going to punish him and his mother, certainly. I warned her." Nicholas said proudly. Mike was still watching closely, waiting for a better explanation."Wait, miss Regina used to be romantically involved with Daniel Ellison? And why would he threaten you, Nick?" Finally, Mike asked all his questions."It's nothing. I'm sure Dan didn't mean to threaten you. He's just really stupid." I found myself defending Dan. It was possible I was dealing with a mafia lord right now, or a drug dealer. Nicholas wasn't who he appeared to be."It doesn't matter. He's going to get what's coming to him." Regina's POVThe look on Dan's face as he saw me walked in was starting to irritate me now. He was smiling proudly to himself for some reason. I hated the fact that I had to leave Nicholas and Mike because lord knows I was having fun for once in my miserable life! We talked about rich people stuff, like hacks to playing golf or how to sight the boss at any venue or party, or best top restaurant experiences and even though I couldn't relate well, I was proud to be in their midst!"What do you even want now?" I rolled my eyes as I made my way over to the couch to sit. Dan joined me, holding two wine glasses. He passed one to me and I accepted it and put it away.He didn't look too impressed. "Reggie, don't you regret already?" My frown deepened. "Regret leaving a jerk like you? No, not really.""Even after I've explained everything to you. I don't understand what you want from me again." "The suffering has only just begun.""I'm sorry, but for your actions, you deserve to be lonely forever if you don't stop flirting with Kimberly's boyfriend!" Rita chipped in, though still sounding as respectful as possible. "What! Are you fools losing your minds!? Dan is my boyfriend, we all know this." I tried to defend myself. Regina's POVOnce home, I began to ask myself if I was still the same Regina or I was some celebrity! Was it because of the fact that I heard Nicholas call me by my real name for once, or when I was busy convincing him there was no need for him to save me because I was fine. Or now, when I was brought home with a free ride accompanied by at least five attendants who escorted me home to carry all of the items I shopped! The stuff I'd gotten were enough to sustain me all through the year! I mean from jewelries to professional outfits and party wears, down to shoes and sneakers and then bags. All very expensive! I definitely felt like a celebrity right now. I said my goodbyes to them after they had carried all the items I shopped for. Once inside, bags of items filled the whole room. I was thinking of how to begin unpacking when I heard a knock on the door. A slender fine lady was outside smiling as I opened the door."My name is Sofia Francisa and I'm your stylist for tonight's party

Regina kept to herself for the next few days, she knew that Jenna must have been beyond anxious waiting for a response from her and this was confirmed when she heard a knock on her door and it turned out to be Jenna. Regina sat still in her seat while waiting for her to speak up. Regina was in no hurry and neither was Jenna as well. It did not seem to matter to Regina how long the silence would last, she was determined to wait until Jenna would break. Jenna stood awkwardly by the corner of Regina’s office, her eyes darting everywhere except at the woman seated across from her. Regina’s expression was unreadable, her arms folded as she leaned back slightly in her chair. The tension in the room was thick, coiling around them like smoke. Finally, Jenna's voice broke through the silence, brittle and uneven.“I’m sorry, Regina. I really am.”Regina arched a brow, her voice smooth but cool. “Sorry? For what exactly, Jenna? For lying to me for months? For playing both sides? Or for only de

Morning light crept through the half-closed blinds of Regina’s apartment, casting long golden slashes across the hardwood floor. She had barely slept. The weight of the last day’s work was weighing on her. She did not feel like getting up from her bed but she had no choice. Work awaited. Picking herself up from the bed, she went into the bathroom and freshened up. She decided on a mini green dress that looked both official and sexy and a nude colored heels to match the color of her handbag. She made her hair into a ponytail and she was all ready for work after a slight make up. Her phone suddenly came alive with a text message and she would not say she was surprised to see that it was Jenna. The message was short: “Can we meet this morning? Please. It’s important.”Regina stared at it for a long minute, suspicion gnawing at her. She had already known that Jenna would reach out to her but she did not just expect it to so quick. But curiosity, coupled with a simmering need for answer

The presentation went well and Jenna was on her way back from there. She could no longer ignore the rumbling in her stomach so she went to a small fast food got herself something to eat. After satisfying her hunger, she walked out of the place and went towards her car.As she made to pull the door open, her eyes met with a fine dark green bag sitting by the window of a store. She could not help but to notice how beautiful the bag was, even from afar. She stood where she was by her car, a thought crawling into her head. What would she think if she did something like that so suddenly after giving her the cold shoulders? Yep, Regina. Would she accept the gift? But there was no need to think twice. So she crossed over to the other side of the street-- thankfully the red traffic light was turned on-- and walked into the store. Moments later, she returned with a fancy green hand bag neatly stored in a box and only then did she get into her car and continue driving her way.The rest of t

Maybe it was truly what she feared after all."Oh good you're here." Nicholas said as he noticed her after looking up. "Sorry to bother you at all but I have an errand for you and Regina. Come sit and let me explain." He invited her over to sit. Regina was already sitting. Jenna batted her lashes once. "An... Errand?" She asked uncertainly. Nicholas gave a nod of his head and pointed at the seat next to Regina, asking her to sit. "Ah of course..." She muttered softly as she hurried up her steps to take a seat. She bowed her head to Regina as a simply greeting. More of a nod. She did not bother to look at her. Sitting at the dining table at her apartment, Jenna traced the tip of her white coffee mug absentmindedly. Her other hand rested on her cheek while leaning on the table. As still as her lips remained, several conversations ran non stop in her head. She could not stop herself from thinking about what she had witnessed. How intimate it was...The memory was fresh in her head like a very fresh wound. Tormenting her mind and keeping her awake. She felt torn between responsibility and her own personal feelings. She had not noticed how much time had passed by where she was sitting. It was already after midnight, her coffee had even gone cold, yet she traced round the edges with her finger, lost in a maze created by her own thoughts. Her finger tips left the mug and wrapped around the coffee mug handle, raising the mug to her lips, she took a sip. The cold liquid felt so irritating that she spat it out without thinking twice. Dropping the mug back on the table, she picked up a tissue pap

Nicholas stumbled through the door of his penthouse, the heavy thud of it closing behind him echoing through the empty space. The club had been loud, chaotic— filled with music and people and all the distractions he’d desperately chased tonight. But none of it had worked. The gnawing emptiness inside him had only grown. He shrugged off his jacket and kicked off his shoes, his body sluggish and uncoordinated from the alcohol coursing through his veins. His tie hung loose around his neck, and his shirt was half-untucked, a mess that matched the storm in his chest.Dragging himself toward his bedroom, Nicholas barely managed to make it to the bed before collapsing face-first into the mattress. The room spun around him, but he couldn’t summon the energy to care. All he wanted was for the pain to stop, even if only for a few hours of restless sleep. With a groan, he sat up just long enough to strip off his wristwatch, the weight of it suddenly unbearable. He opened the drawer of his bedsid

Nicholas had always thought of himself as a man in control— control of his business, his image, his emotions. He told himself she was being childish, that she’d come around eventually. He kept calling, kept texting, convinced that persistence would wear her down. But when his messages remained unanswered and days turned into a week, something darker began to settle inside him.It started with sleepless nights. He would lie awake until dawn, staring at the ceiling, his mind running in circles. The silence of his penthouse, once a comfort, now felt like a prison. Her absence echoed in every room, every corner, as if the very walls missed her.And then came the drinking. At first, it was just a glass of whiskey to calm his nerves. But soon, one glass turned into two, then three. By the second week, Nicholas found himself at the bottom of a bo

The morning after the party, Regina’s head throbbed with more than just the remnants of wine. She had surrendered in that moment, and the realization made her stomach twist with confusion and self-loathing.She had promised herself she would never let anyone toy with her feelings again, and yet, here she was, tangled in a mess she hadn’t seen coming. Her phone rang, the sharp sound cutting through the silence of her apartment.
