Chapter 10

Mia's POV 

I didn't go to school the next day. 

I was too humiliated and weak to even care about attending my classes. 

I stayed in my room all morning, refusing to go down for breakfast even after Valerie came to tell me Kai had sent for me. 

I had cried myself to sleep last night, a part of me feeling hopeless about my situation. Meanwhile, another part of me believed that I should stay strong and that what was going on wouldn't last forever. 

The sun was already high and bright in the sky when another knock sounded on my door. 

I hissed as I turned around in bed, facing away from the door. 

“I already said I'm not eating!” I screamed, not wanting for the person on the other side of the door to speak. 

“Miss Mia, I'm actually not here for food. Mr. Voss told me to come tell you there's someone downstairs looking for you,” Valerie spoke and I raised a brow. 

“There's someone looking for me?” I asked curiously as I flung my blanket aside and got out of bed. 

Who could be looking for me and be bold enough to come to Kai's villa?

“Yes, he's currently in the sitting room with Mr. Voss,” Valerie responded and I gasped. 

He? 

Could it be...?

I didn't waste time before unlocking the door and rushing past Valerie as I ran downstairs. 

“Mis Mia, slow down!” Valerie yelled from behind me, but I didn't reply. 

As I got to the bottom of the stairs, my steps faltered and my eyes grew wide when I saw Liam standing with Kai in the sitting room. 

It was him. 

He was actually here. 

“Liam!” I exclaimed as I tried to run towards him, but Kai's gaze stopped me in my tracks. 

“You know him?” Kai asked, his brows raised. 

“Yes, he's my friend,” I quickly lied, and Liam looked at me in surprise. 

The night I had gotten caught, I had told Kai I was helping my boyfriend to achieve something by stealing from him, If he found out that Liam was my boyfriend, I had no idea what he would do. 

“Yes, we're close friends! I got worried because I didn't see her in school today. I was told she lived here now, and that's why I came,” Liam added. 

Kai’s eyes narrowed into slits as he looked between the two of us before nodding. 

“I'll leave you two to it,” he said before walking away.

The moment Kai was out of sight, I immediately moved closer to Liam. 

It took everything in me not to wrap my arms around him and kiss him. 

Spending the last couple of days at Kai's villa without seeing him was hell. And the fact that I didn't even catch a glimpse of him once at the academy made the situation worse. 

“How have you been? I was so worried when I didn't see you that night, only for me to wake up to Kai announcing you as his fiancée the next day,” Liam rambled, and I looked at him tearfully. 

“I don't know how I got caught, Liam. And it turned out it was Kai who sensed my presence himself. I didn't trigger any of the alarm systems like we already knew. He told me that night that I was his mate,” I spoke, and Liam's eyes widened in realization. 

“You're his mate...? So that's why he made that announcement...” he trailed off. 

I nodded solemnly. “I don't know how it's possible for me to have a mate when I don't have a wolf spirit. I think he's lying about it to keep me here against my will,”

“I want to leave this place, Liam. I don't want to stay here anymore. I want to come be with you,” I said in a whisper, and he reached out to touch my hand. 

“All in due time, Mia. But for now, you have to stay here so you won't make him mad. Do whatever he asks you to so you can stay alive. I don't want to lose you,” Liam said, and a tear rolled down my cheek. 

He reached out and wiped it away. “I haven't abandoned you, my love. I won't lie, I was deathly afraid when you didn't return to the car that night, and I haven't been myself. I even fell sick and missed school because I didn't know what you could be going through.”

“This is not the outcome we hoped for, but you have to take advantage of your current situation. Since you're already in the villa now and probably have access to some parts of the house, it will make it easier for you to walk around without suspicion. Gain Kai's trust and use that to obtain the fingerprint contract,” he said. 

“And when you succeed, and it's all over, I promise to come get you and we'll leave together. I love you too much to watch you suffer like this, and I can't wait for us to be back together,” he finished and I snivelled.

“I understand, Liam. I'm sorry you had to go through all that because I didn't make it back. But like you said, I'll take advantage of the access I have to this place and make Kai trust me enough to lead me to the contract,” I responded, and he smiled. 

“I really hope you'll succeed. Then we'll get to go back to how things were, but our lives will be so much better when I get those investors and my firm picks up,” Liam said. 

I bobbed my head, feeling a new sense of determination wash over me. 

The fact that Liam would be waiting for me, and I could go back to him after getting the fingerprint contract was enough to keep me going. I would do my best and make sure I succeed, so my life would return to normal. 

A smile tugged at my lips as I gazed at Liam. “I'm looking forward to that time. Make sure you wait for me.”

Liam nodded and squeezed my hands. “I will. I wish I could pull you into my arms and kiss you right now, but Kai is probably somewhere watching us. I'll wait till you're out.”

I chuckled, my face warming up at his joke. “Yeah. It's probably best to wait.”
