Chapter 16

Mia's POV 

I let out a soft gasp and my eyes widened as Kai pulled me into his arms. 

He wrapped his arms around me, and I was immediately surrounded by the warmth radiating off his body. 

Being in his arms felt comforting... and familiar in a way. For some reason, that made me cry harder. 

My body shook as I sobbed, and I buried my face in Kai's chest, soaking his shirt. 

He didn't let me go, instead he pulled me impossibly closer to him. He patted my back softly as I cried, and I heard a low rumble in his chest as I held on to him. 

“It's okay...” Kai said, his voice low and enthralling. 

I snivelled, squeezing my eyes shut as the tears kept coming. 

I had no idea how long I cried and how long we remained in that position, but I finally calmed down after a while. 

When Kai noticed that I had stopped crying, he brushed my hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear. 

“Feeling better now?” he asked calmly as he met my eyes. 

I slowly nodded, releasing the tight grip I had on his shirt. 

Kai gazed at me for several seconds, saying nothing as we stared at each other. 

He suddenly reached out and wiped away the tears on my face with his thumb, and I let out a shaky breath.

I was surprised when he embraced me and waited for me to stop crying. And now that he was wiping away my tears... I didn't quite know how to feel. 

We remained in that position for several minutes. 

I should have pulled away and gone to my room, so I wouldn't have to look at him. 

But I didn't. 

Something about the way he gazed at me made me feel too weak to move all of a sudden. 

I stared right back at him, taking the time to really look at his face. 

He was breathtaking. I had noticed that the first time I laid eyes on him. 

I had never seen anybody who looked as good as him. 

And he wasn't only hot. He was tall and strong as well. My eyes trailed down his biceps and I could feel his arm on my torso as he held me. 

My eyes went back to his face—his full lips. They looked so inviting. I wondered what he tasted like. 

Before I could stop myself, my tongue darted out of my mouth and I licked my lips. 

Kai's gaze darkened as he followed the movement, and his grip on my torso tightened. 

“Mia...” he called, his voice low in an almost threatening manner. 

I had no idea if he was warning me or not, but I didn't care about that as I held his face, pulled him closer to me, and kissed him. 

Kai went still as I did that, and he didn't move for the first few seconds. He made a grunting sound, and I was about to break the kiss and pull away out of regret. 

But right as I was about to do that, Kai gripped my hips and took my mouth in his.

“I tried to warn you,” he growled lowly before kissing me like his life depended on it. 

I moaned into his mouth as I threw my hands around his neck. Within the blink of an eye, Kai lifted me effortlessly and made his way up the stairs without breaking the kiss for once. 

My heart pounded in my chest as I realized what was about to happen, but I didn't stop. 

Whatever happened, I would face the consequences later. 

I might as well finish what I started.

Three weeks had passed since what happened between me and Kai. 

I could still remember what went down vividly, and anytime the thought crossed my mind, I felt a rush of embarrassment and wished I would spontaneously combust. 

Kai and I had barely said anything to each other since the incident, but that didn't deter him from dropping me off at the academy and picking me up by the end of the day. 

He was still everywhere I went, always keeping his eyes on me like I would run away the second he took his eyes off me. 

And school was becoming more intense as well. 

It was midterms at the academy and we were having exams. 

I was finding it hard to keep up with them and I couldn't focus as much as I would like. 

On the day of my third exam, I woke up that morning and felt really weak. 

But I pushed through it and got ready for the day. I assumed I was feeling that way because of the overnight reading I did, and told myself I'd take a nap later in the day. 

I went down to the dining room and tried to eat cereal for breakfast but after taking the third spoonful, I started feeling nauseous. 

I quickly dropped the spoon, putting my hand over my mouth as the sudden urge to throw up came over me. 

“Are you okay?” Kai asked, glancing at me from where he sat. 

I shook my head, my hand still over my mouth as I waited for the feeling to pass by. 

It finally did after a few seconds and I blew a breath. 

“I'm fine,” I whispered as I got up. “I guess I'm not hungry. I'll just go to school.”

Kai's brows knitted together as he stared at me. 

“Alright then,” he said after some seconds. 

He stopped eating, and we walked towards the car together. 

Just as I opened the door and was about to get into the passenger's seat, my vision blurred for a second and I stumbled backwards. 

I gripped the door to steady myself, but Kai had already rushed to my side, holding my shoulder. 

“Are you sure you're alright?” he asked as he helped me sit in the car. 

“I am. I guess I'm feeling like this because I didn't get enough sleep,” I managed to say. 

He didn't look convinced. “I really doubt that. You must be falling sick.”

“I'm not. I just didn't sleep enough,” I replied defensively. 

He shook his head as he closed the door and sat down in the driver's seat. 

“No. You need to get checked. You should go to the school infirmary before your exam.”

I gaped at him. 

“I don't have time for that. My exam is literally in twenty minutes—” I was saying when a fresh wave of dizziness crashed over me. I squeezed my eyes shut and groaned. 

“We're going to the infirmary first,” he said, his tone carrying an air of finality. 

I didn't argue with him and just stayed quiet as he started driving. 

We got to the academy some minutes later, and Kai escorted me to the school infirmary. 

I hadn't been here since the whole fiancée announcement thing went down. I just found it hard to do my job as a student nurse and still focus on my studies with everything that was going on. 

I pushed the thought aside as I met one of the doctors and told her how I was feeling. 

She asked me to come into one of the rooms while Kai waited for me outside. She ran a test on me and told me to wait with Kai in her office until the results came back. 

After some minutes, the door opened and the doctor walked into the office. 

Her face betrayed no emotions so I couldn't tell what she was thinking as she sat down. 

She dropped some papers on the desk and slid it towards me, a smile tugging at her lips as she looked at me. 

“Miss Hale, your test results are back and you are pregnant.”
