I came back from training already braced for another day of silence, mud drying on my hands, my mind still circling the same unanswered question it had circled for a week, where the letter had gone, whether Bassel was simply delayed or something worse, whether I'd just handed my one working plan to a stranger for a fistful of coin and nothing to show for it.
