CHAPTER 5

last update Last Updated: 2025-03-06 13:41:00

WAS I DREAMING?

I swallowed hard, my throat dry as I took in the man before me.

The Alpha of Red's pack.

Luca's father!

Even with the flashing lights dancing across his face, there was no mistaking him. The strong jawline, the sharp glint in his eyes, the way his presence commanded attention without him even trying.

I couldn't breathe.

My eyes roamed carelessly over him. He looked much more handsome from a closer view, almost impossible to believe he had a son as grown as Luca.

But I couldn't let him know who I was. Not tonight. Not like this.

How would I explain myself if he did? Your son cheated on me, so I'm here to do the same by losing my priceless virginity to a stranger? Hell, no!

I forced a coy smile, tilting my head just slightly, pretending to be just another girl at the bar. Someone he’d never met before. "You scared my company away," I purred, my voice lower than usual, hoping the makeup and the change in my hair were enough to throw him off.

His dark gaze ran over me slowly, drinking me in, and for a moment I thought—no, hoped—he hadn’t recognized me.

There was something else in his eyes though, curiosity mingled with desire. "He wasn't worth your time," he said simply, his voice deep and rough, cutting right through the deafening music.

I swallowed, hoping he couldn't see how nervous he was making me.

I shrugged, trying to act nonchalant. "And you are?"

He glanced at me, stepping closer, his body radiating heat and dominance. "That's something for you to find out for yourself." His voice had that same authoritative touch, but tonight, it sounded extremely hot.

There was this dare in his voice that made me want to do as he said, but I held back. This is not why I'm here. Well, I'm here to flirt with a man and seduce him into spending the night with me, but not my arranged mate's father.

I looked away, taking a huge sip of my drink. I was hoping if I stayed silent, and acted boring, he would go away, but he didn't.

“What's your name?" He demanded.

I held my breath. Oh no! Think fast, Raven. "Anna.” The name rolled off my tongue.

"Anna!” He breathed, making the name sound so damn sexy. "Beautiful name.”

Another long sip. "And what's your name, Alpha?” I blurted out, before I could stop myself.

He turned to me, his eyes burning yet enticing. "Is it that obvious?” He asked.

I held his eyes. "Yes. Only an Alpha exudes this enthralling aura, it makes me so nervous.” I don't know where the courage was coming from.

For the first time in the few minutes we met, his lips curved up into a smirk. Even that was extremely seductive. “It's the first time I don't mind that title.” He edged closer, "I want to hear you say it when you're pinned over the wall."

Every nerve in my body became on edge. This was dangerous—he was dangerous—but for once, I wanted to be reckless. I wanted to forget everything, to drown in something other than betrayal and heartbreak.

I bit the corner of my lips subconsciously, “I can do that." I mumbled flirtatiously.

His blue eyes bored into me, making bumps crawl on my skin. “I can also replace that nervous feeling with something else… something more intense… more pleasurable.”

I swallowed. This is it, there's no going back now. “Why don't you?"

Without a word, I let him take my hand, his grip firm yet careful, like he knew I might run if he held on too tight. He led me through the crowded bar, out into the cool night air, the music fading behind us.

He finally let go of my hand, and the next minute, he shifted. A gasp escaped my lips as his wolf came into view, black fur that shone like the night. And those eyes retained their black-hole quality—I couldn't look away.

“Hop on!" I heard his voice in my mind.

I didn't hesitate. His fur was as soft as it looked, so comfortable I wanted to remain there forever. “Hold on tight, Anna."

He began racing, my heart doing the run with him. The tension was thick between us. Each step into the woods felt like crossing a line I could never uncross, but I didn’t care. Not tonight.

Soon, a small cabin came into view, half-hidden by the trees, the soft glow of candlelight flickering through the window. It was simple, secluded — perfect.

He shifted back to his human form to open the door, standing aside to let me in first. My heart hammered in my chest as I stepped inside. The scent of woodsmoke and earth filled the air, grounding me just enough to keep me from trembling.

The door clicked shut behind us.

I turned to face him, every wall I had left crumbling under the weight of his gaze. My eyes fell on his bare chest, and I felt a pool beneath my legs. There was no pretense now, no need for words. I stepped into him, my hands sliding up his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath his shirt.

He cupped my face, his thumb tracing my bottom lip, his touch sending a jolt straight through me. "Who are you?" he asked softly, the question hanging between us.

"No one," I whispered, my voice cracking slightly. "Just a girl who needed to escape."

He didn’t push for more. Instead, he kissed me.

It was gentle at first, almost hesitant, but the moment I responded—the moment I clung to him like he was the only thing keeping me upright—it turned desperate.

Clothes disappeared in a blur of hands and heat, my back pressing against the worn wooden wall as his mouth claimed mine again and again. Every touch, every kiss, every breath was laced with something primal, something neither of us could control.

He pinned me across the wall, making an extremely pleasurable assault on my neck. I moaned loudly, my legs turning to jelly.

“Call me Alpha!" He growled in my ears.

My legs pressed against each other, as I felt my arousal. “Alpha!" I cooed.

He let out another growl. The next second, he lifted me effortlessly, my legs wrapping around his waist, and carried me to the small bed in the corner. There was no hesitation, no second guessing—only desire.

The world outside didn’t exist. It was only us.

For the first time in so long, I felt wanted. Needed. Like I wasn’t invisible.

I lost myself in him—in the way he whispered against my skin, in the way his hands knew exactly where to touch, in the way he made me forget every single heartbreak that brought me here.

It didn't even feel like my first time, I mean the pain everyone talked about, but it was surely the most special moment of my life.

And when it was over, when we lay tangled together in the dim light, his arm heavy across my waist, I let myself believe—just for a second—that maybe I could be someone else.

But morning came too soon.

The soft light filtering through the window illuminated the room, and as the haze of sleep faded, reality crashed down on me.

I turned my head slowly, my heart stopping when I saw him—my Alpha—asleep beside me.

My eyes widened in shock. My Alpha.

My mate's father.

My body went cold, my mind spinning as the weight of what I had done settled over me like a stone.

What the hell have I done?

CHAPTER 62MOON FESTIVAL, HERE I COME.I was brushing down my training gear, thinking of nothing and everything at once, when the knock came.I opened it slowly, and there he was—Father—standing tall and quiet in the hallway, arms full with a long, covered bundle wrapped in deep velvet. His eyes crinkled at the corners, like he was trying to smile but didn’t quite know how.“I thought you might need help getting ready,” he said.I blinked at him, stunned for a breath. “Help?”He lifted the bundle slightly, revealing just a hint of shimmering moon-silver fabric beneath the velvet. “This… belonged to the Luna before you, and the Luna before her.”My chest clenched. He stepped inside as I backed up to let him through, my throat tight.I reached out, fingers trembling slightly as I brushed the velvet away. The dress was breathtaking—flowing moon-white silk laced with faint silver embroidery that shimmered only when it caught the light just right. A carved moonstone sat at the collar, a si

CHAPTER 61HE HOSTED THE ENTIRE PACK.Later that day, the pack gathered for a family dinner at Father’s modest estate. The atmosphere was warm and casual—the kind of setting that reminded me that even in loss, love could persevere. The dining hall was rich with laughter, soft chatter, and the clinking of cups filled with spiced water. Father sat at the head of the long table, his eyes twinkling with memories as he looked around at the assembled pack members.Over dinner, stories flowed freely. Father recalled when I was a small pup, chasing my own tail and laughing as the wind carried my excited barks into the crisp evening air. He told a tale of a mischievous child who once tried to sneak away during a storm—and was found huddled in the barn, shivering but full of defiant spirit. I blushed at the recollection, a mixture of embarrassment and deep, abiding love warming me from within.“You were born of fire, Raven,” Father said softly during a lull in the conversation, his voice filled

The sun was high, glinting off steel practice blades and the slick shoulders of sparring wolves. Laughter drifted across the space like music—young warriors teasing one another, elders watching with fond amusement. The energy wasn't tense, it was peaceful.Julian was already waiting for me at the center ring, barefoot, arms folded, his grin entirely too smug.“Ready to be humbled, future Luna?” he called out, his golden eyes glinting like a dare.I rolled my eyes, suppressing a smile. “You talk like you’ve ever beat me before.”Chuckles rose from the watching pack. Someone from the side called, “Get him, Raven!”

CHAPTER 59PURIFIED, SANTIFIED, CLEANSED—I needed to be all of these things. This was the only way I could regain myself, I needed to do it for the pack too.The cleansing fire crackled at the heart of the ceremonial ring, casting golden sparks into the air. The entire pack stood around it—shoulders brushing, hands clasped, eyes trained on me. Some still looked hesitant. But most… most looked hopeful. The sigils that had once marred our land, woven into corners of halls, etched in stone behind our gates—all had been marked for purging. Myra’s shadows were being burned from the roots up. But the bond she had tried to fracture needed something more. Something sacred.Callen—the pack's sorceror—stood before me now, tall and radiant, his silver robes whispering against the ground. The moonstone staff in his hand pulsed gently, humming with ancient magic."Raven," he said softly, "will you receive the light willingly?"I nodded, throat tight. “I will.”He reached forward, dipping his finge

I stood outside Julian’s door with the scroll in my hand, fingers trembling—not from fear, but from the weight of what I now knew.Myra.Luca.The severing spell. The ink.The lies. All of it spiraled in my head like storm clouds ready to break.I didn’t knock—I pushed the door open. Julian was at his desk, half-buried in maps and reports. He looked up, and for a moment, I saw the surprise flicker in his eyes. Then something softer—the familiar gaze I knew.“Raven,” he said carefully, “I—”“I saw them,” I cut in. “Myra. And Luca. In the woods. Together.”His brows snapped down. “What?”“I followed her. She met with him—late at night. He handed her something. I couldn’t see what. But I found this.” I laid the scroll out on his desk, careful not to touch the runes. “Same protective ink Harin had. Same mark. It was in her private cha

CHAPTER 57THE BETRAYAL STABBED DEEP.Outside, I let the cold air burn my lungs. Myra’s words echoed like poison in my head. She had known my mother. Knew what happened to her. Knew how to break fate itself.I didn’t know who to trust anymore. But I knew one thing for certain:They wanted me to doubt myself. They wanted me to sever the bond. And if I gave in… I’d be doing their work for them.I couldn't let that happen. The scent of sweat and steel lingered in the night air, far too thick for this time of evening. I stood on the upper balcony of the war wing, staring down at the dim courtyard below—where movement flickered like shadows trying to stay hidden.Figures danced across the dirt floor, clashing blades in silence. No torches, no sanctioned drills. Just cloaked silhouettes sparring in a ring of secrecy.I squinted… and my stomach turned.Luca.Even at a distance, I could feel his presence. The way he moved—arrogant, sure, like the world owed him something and he was here to co

CHAPTER 56I WASTED NO MORE TIME.The door to the restricted archives groaned open like an old throat clearing its secrets. Cold air greeted me—tinged with parchment, candle wax, and something older, which I couldn't quite name.I stepped inside, keeping my expression neutral.Elder Myra sat at her usual spot, fingers tracing a line across a crumbling scroll, lips moving faintly like she was reciting something to herself. She didn’t look up.I waited.Seconds passed in silence.“You should knock,” she said finally, not bothering to look at me. “Even ghosts have manners.”“I didn’t want to startle you,” I said evenly.“Everything startles me nowadays.” She rolled the scroll up with sharp precision. “Children appearing in sacred spaces… the dead walking among us… destiny taking ill-advised turns.”My eyes furrowed in confusion. What was she saying? Her eyes flicked up. Pale, unreadable. “To what do I owe the honor, Alpha's mate?”I stepped closer. “I came to learn. About the marks. The

CHAPTER 55HARSH REALITY.The war chamber had grown colder since Harin’s death. A heaviness lingered, pressing against the walls like a silent accusation. We’d taken a break to breathe, to think. But time wasn’t our ally. Now, another name sat before us.Luca.He slouched in the chair like he owned the place, arms draped lazily over the sides, one leg propped over the other. The same man who had once begged for forgiveness now looked like he couldn’t care less.Julian stood beside me, stone-faced, eyes trained on him like a predator. I stayed seated, arms crossed, forcing my expression to stay neutral even as my stomach twisted.“You know why you’re here,” Julian said coldly.“Enlighten me, Alpha,” Luca replied with a smirk, voice dripping with mockery. “Am I being blamed for another ritual I didn’t attend?”Julian’s jaw ticked. “You were close to Elena. Too close not to know something.”Luca rolled his eyes. “I fucked her, yes! But I had no business with her and her dark magic.”I na

Or who else you were protecting.”His eyes met mine then, for the first time in years. And there, in that single moment, I saw it.Guilt. And fear.“I only did what I thought was right,” he whispered. “She told me… she told me the prophecy would bring ruin. That your bond would awaken something uncontrollable. That the pack would be torn apart by power and chaos.”“That wasn’t your choice to make,” I snapped, the words burning in my throat. He looked down. “It wasn’t just me.”My heart pounded.“Who?” Julian demanded, stepping forward. “Who else was part of this?”Harin opened his mouth. But at that moment, a sharp gasp tore from his chest. His eyes bulged, his fingers clawing at his throat.“Harin!” I shouted, l
