“Are you certain you want to open this now, Damon?” Clara asked softly.

The night wind sighed through the silence of the hidden workroom deep beneath the Vance family’s private villa. Before them stood a massive steel safe, carved with ancient patterns—once the property of Damon’s late father, Richard Vance, only recently recovered from Kaelen’s secret headquarters by Mark and his security team.

Damon stood close behind her, his strong left arm wrapped firmly around her waist. Though the bandages on his right shoulder were still neatly in place, the tightness in his face betrayed a deep, raw vulnerability. Julian’s revelation about the secret documents left behind by his father had ignited the greatest curiosity of Damon’s life—and also his deepest fear.

“I have to open it, Clara,” Damon’s voice came rough and low, close to her ear. He breathed in the soft scent of lavender in her hair, drawing strength from the woman beside him. “For fifteen years, I have lived under the shadow of my father’s sins. Whatever lies inside this vault… I want to face it with you.”

Clara turned in his embrace, looking straight into his dark eyes with absolute sincerity. She cupped both his cheeks in her warm hands, her touch soft and soothing, smoothing away the tension locked in his jaw.

“We face it together, Damon. Always and forever.”

Damon offered a faint, trembling smile. He laced his fingers tightly through hers, and together they pressed their thumbs to the safe’s dual biometric scanner.

Beep. Beep. Click.

Heavy steel mechanisms clanked and whirred deep inside, before the thick, heavy door slowly slid open.

Inside the airtight chamber, there was no dark pact, no record of betrayal, no stolen assets—nothing like the dangerous secrets Kaelen had threatened them with. Instead, resting quietly within, were only a carved teakwood box and a rolled letter bound in black velvet, sealed with wax stamped with the initials they both knew so well: the names Damon and Clara, written as they had been when they were children.

Damon reached for the letter, his fingers trembling slightly. Clara helped him carefully break the dried, aged seal.

As the yellowed pages were unfolded, the bold, distinct handwriting he knew better than his own was revealed clearly under the soft room lights—his father’s own hand.

“To my son, Damon, and to the daughter of my dearest friend, Clara…”

Damon’s breath caught sharply in his throat. He read the words slowly, line by line, while Clara leaned close against his chest, holding him tight.

“If you are reading this, it means I have failed to protect our families from the greed of Arthur Sterling and Kaelen. For years, I was forced to pretend I stood beside them, to act as their ally, just to keep you both alive and safe. My greatest regret, my darkest sin… was that I was powerless to stop Sterling from plotting the terrible tragedy that took Clara’s parents from her…”

Warm tears began to well and spill from Damon’s eyes. Clara squeezed his hand tight, feeling the deep emotional weight that had been locked away inside his heart for over a decade, finally breaking free.

“But my son, Damon… I have watched you since you were small. I saw the way you looked at Clara even then. You were never born to be the monster they claimed you were. If one day you succeed in bringing Clara back to your side, know this: every asset, every share, every part of the Zephyr legacy I have guarded is yours—yours together. I give you my fullest, most blessed permission to be joined in marriage. Protect her, love her, and wash away the sins of our past generations by building a future filled with happiness…”

The letter ended with the genuine signatures of both their fathers, standing as official witness to the lawful transfer and ownership of the entire Zephyr Group to the two of them.

The silence in that underground room suddenly felt gentle and peaceful. Every false rumor, every lie, every crushing weight of guilt that had tormented Damon for years… every burden of being seen as the son of a traitor—all of it vanished in an instant. His father had never betrayed anyone. He had been a victim, a man who risked everything to secure the future of the children he loved.

Damon sank slowly to his knees before Clara, burying his face against her waist and holding her hips with desperate, clinging strength. The broad, powerful shoulders of the man feared by the entire corporate world shook violently as he finally, fully let go of the tears he had held back for fifteen long years.

Clara tangled her fingers tenderly into his dark hair, bending down to wrap her arms around his head and hold him close, overflowing with love and comfort.

“It’s over now, Damon… your burden is lifted. You are no monster. You are my protector. You are my love.”

One week later.

The main terrace of the lakeside villa was alive with warmth and happy activity. Leading fashion designers and top wedding planners were busy displaying sketches of flowing white gowns and arrangements of fresh roses, preparing for the official wedding ceremony of Damon and Clara, scheduled to take place next month.

Clara stood before a large mirror, dressed in a wedding gown of delicate white lace that clung softly to every curve of her body. A radiant, unshakable smile never left her graceful face.

Damon walked toward her down the corridor, wearing a black tuxedo, still unbuttoned. His dark eyes were fixed entirely on her, seeing nothing else in the world.

“You look absolutely breathtaking, my queen,” he murmured huskily, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind and gazing at their reflection together in the glass.

Clara turned around, gently straightening the collar of his tuxedo with a loving, indulgent smile. “And you look incredibly handsome, my future husband. What do you think of the decorations they’ve set up outside?”

But before Damon could answer, his expression froze completely.

The healthy color drained from his face, turning it ashen and pale. His arms around her waist went stiff and heavy, his grip loosening as his breathing suddenly grew ragged, shallow, and broken.

“Damon?” Clara cried out in alarm as she saw him clutch hard at his chest.

THUD!

Damon jerked violently. His knees gave way completely, and his large, powerful body collapsed heavily onto the sofa nearby. He coughed once, a small, sharp sound, spitting a streak of bright red blood onto his own palm. At the same moment, the portable heart monitor he always carried in his suit pocket began screaming a shrill, urgent emergency alert.

“Damon!” Clara shrieked in pure panic, dropping instantly to her knees to cup his face, now cold and damp with sweat. “Mark! Call Dr. Aris immediately! Now!”

“Clara…” Damon whispered hoarsely, his eyes fighting to stay open, struggling through waves of crushing pain tearing through the wounds left from his surgery.

The health complications Damon had suffered—internal bleeding that had never fully healed, worsened by weeks of relentless work and high-stakes corporate battles—had finally reached a critical, dangerous peak. And now, the beautiful dream of marriage and happiness they had just begun to build together suddenly hung by the thinnest of threads.

Chapter 27: The Fire of Jealousy and a Stand Made Clear “Do not take another single step, Julian,” Damon hissed, his voice rough and low. That heavy, dangerous tone cut through the stillness of the underground parking garage like a blade of ice. His jaw clenched tight as stone, while his hold on Clara’s hand locked into an unyielding grip. The aura of a ruthless killer that had finally begun to fade away now surged back out from his powerful frame, radiating such pure, soul-shaking terror that Julian froze stiff where he knelt on the concrete floor. Julian trembled violently, staring up at Damon with eyes wide and wild with fear. “Damon… I never meant to disturb you… I just need help to get away… to escape…” “You took advantage of Clara’s kindness years ago, you hurt her, you destroyed everything you had… and now you dare crawl before her like a beggar, trying to play on her sympathy?” Damon took one long, deliberate step forward, positioning

“Let me handle this, Clara,” Damon whispered, his voice low and rough—calm, yet brimming with unshakable authority. He cupped her face gently in both hands, brushing away the single tear that rolled down her cheek. Just beyond the soundproof doors of the main hall, the roar of hundreds of camera shutters and the clamor of reporters from every major national media outlet echoed loudly. The manipulated video footage that had been released, carefully crafted to paint Clara as a villain, had already sparked wild, dangerous speculation across the country. Clara gripped his wrists, her eyes locked deep into his dark gaze. “Damon, you haven’t fully healed yet. If you go out there and your emotions get the better of you—” “I will never let anyone turn you into prey, Clara,” Damon cut in softly, pressing a warm, reassuring kiss to her forehead. “For fifteen years, I hid my love for you deep in the shadows. But today… today I will let th

“Straighten your collar, Damon,” Clara said softly, breaking the quiet stillness inside the private office at the very top of the Zephyr Group building. Her slender fingers moved with careful precision, adjusting the black silk tie around his neck. Damon stood perfectly still, letting her tend to his appearance. Even though he still wore a white shirt layered over a medical compression vest covering the stitches and scars on his shoulder, his commanding presence had not diminished in the slightest. Yet the gaze that once radiated cold menace now rested on Clara with nothing but deep, unwavering admiration. Clara looked breathtaking. A tailored deep maroon blazer dress hugged her figure perfectly, matched with the emerald heirloom ring glowing brilliantly on her left hand. There was no trace left of the woman who once lived trapped within illusions and despair; standing there now was a Chief Executive Officer fully ready to reclaim her rightful throne.

“Why are you looking at me like that, Clara?” Damon’s voice came soft and low, breaking the quiet stillness of the master bedroom, wrapped in the gentle patter of falling rain.Slowly, Damon opened his eyes to find Clara sitting at the edge of the bed, her gaze warm and tender as she watched him. He tried to push himself up, bracing against the dull ache still lingering in his chest, though the sharp pain had finally begun to fade. The dim glow of the bedside lamp cast a soft golden light across Clara’s face—but Damon’s attention was drawn instantly to the fingers of her left hand. There, resting on her ring finger, sat the platinum band etched with delicate roses, its center stone—a vivid emerald—glowing with deep, brilliant fire.Damon’s breath caught in his throat. His dark eyes trembled, laid bare with a raw mix of shock and vulnerability. “You… you found the box?”Clara did not answer right away. The sharp, biting scent of medical antiseptics slowly faded, replaced by the warm, gentle fragrance of lavender oil and pine wood. Damon’s private villa by the lake—once damaged and left in ruins—had been fully restored, transformed into a secluded sanctuary protected by the most advanced security systems available. The storm of conspiracy woven by General Arthur Sterling and the Kaelen Consortium had finally passed. Justice had prevailed, yet the scars left behind on Damon’s body and soul still demanded time and care to heal.Inside the spacious upper-floor master bedroom, overlooking the calm surface of the lake, silence hung heavy and soothing. Damon lay resting on a king-sized bed, sterile bandages still wrapped firmly around his chest and right shoulder. Just two days prior, he had undergone critical surgery to clean deep infections and repair torn muscle tissue sustained during the confrontation in the server room. The operation had been a success, but the physical toll left the
