The sharp, biting scent of medical antiseptics slowly faded, replaced by the warm, gentle fragrance of lavender oil and pine wood. Damon’s private villa by the lake—once damaged and left in ruins—had been fully restored, transformed into a secluded sanctuary protected by the most advanced security systems available. The storm of conspiracy woven by General Arthur Sterling and the Kaelen Consortium had finally passed. Justice had prevailed, yet the scars left behind on Damon’s body and soul still demanded time and care to heal.

Inside the spacious upper-floor master bedroom, overlooking the calm surface of the lake, silence hung heavy and soothing. Damon lay resting on a king-sized bed, sterile bandages still wrapped firmly around his chest and right shoulder. Just two days prior, he had undergone critical surgery to clean deep infections and repair torn muscle tissue sustained during the confrontation in the server room. The operation had been a success, but the physical toll left the strong, imposing man with no choice but to remain on strict bed rest.

Clara moved toward the bed with soft, careful steps, carrying a basin of warm water and a soft sponge. She wore a loose, cream-colored knit dress—her appearance graceful and warm, a far cry from the cold, formidable demeanor of the leader of Zephyr Group she had shown to her enemies.

“Damon…” Clara whispered tenderly, brushing the back of her hand lightly against his forehead.

His fever had finally broken. Slowly, Damon’s dark eyes fluttered open, focusing on the familiar silhouette standing beside him. The gaze that once held nothing but dominance, suspicion, and cold calculation now held only honest, unguarded tenderness. The walls of manipulation and pretense were gone; what remained was simply a man completely vulnerable before the woman he loved more than life itself.

“You haven’t slept since last night, Clara,” Damon’s voice came out rough and low. His weak hand shifted slowly across the sheets, searching until his fingers found hers. “You don’t have to tend to me like this yourself. There are private nurses who can—”

“I don’t want anyone else touching your wounds,” Clara cut in firmly, yet her tone was soft and protective. She sat down on the edge of the bed, dipped the sponge into warm water, and began gently washing his chest and left arm with endless, patient care. “I want to be the one to do it.”

Damon watched her hands moving over his skin with such devoted care. A faint, rare smile touched his pale lips. A gentle warmth spread through his chest—a feeling so strange and foreign to him, something he had never known during all those years he had locked himself away behind walls of vengeance and crushing guilt.

“Why are you still here, Clara?” he asked hoarsely, his eyes searching deep into hers. “You hold full legal ownership of every asset and inheritance belonging to Zephyr Group now. Kaelen and Sterling are both behind bars. You… you are completely free. You can go anywhere you wish, and no one will ever force you or control you again.”

Clara paused, her hand stopping mid-motion. She looked back at him with a sharp, steady gaze—one brimming with absolute devotion and love. She set the sponge down into the basin, then wrapped both of her hands tightly around his.

“Do you truly still believe I stayed here because I had no choice?” she murmured softly, leaning forward until her forehead rested gently against his on the pillow. “Listen to me carefully, Damon Vance. The cage you built around me long ago… yes, it once felt like a prison. But the man who threw himself into a hail of bullets, who risked everything just to keep me safe… that is the man I choose to stay with.”

Clear tears spilled from the corners of her eyes, falling like warm drops onto Damon’s cheek.

“I am not here because of an inheritance, or because of the schemes and lies of your past,” she continued, her voice trembling yet filled with unshakable certainty. “I am here because I love you. I choose to stand by your side… because it is what I want, and what my heart wants.”

Damon went still, utterly speechless. Her words were like the finest medicine, healing the deepest, oldest wounds buried within his soul. With shaking fingers, he lifted his hand, wiping away her tears before cupping the back of her neck gently, pulling her down toward him into a kiss—slow, intimate, and overflowing with gratitude. It was a kiss that no longer demanded ownership or possession, but marked the union of two souls who had finally found peace, after walking through hell together.

Later that afternoon, as Damon drifted into a deep sleep aided by pain-relieving medication, Clara decided to organize and tidy the wardrobe in their room. She wanted to make sure all blood-stained shirts and damaged suits from the past were cleared away and put away for good.

Clara opened the intricately carved teak wardrobe standing in the corner of the room and began sorting through the neatly stacked black suits. But as she reached toward the back to move aside a heavy silk evening coat, her fingers brushed against something hidden—a small compartment built into the rear panel of the cabinet.

A narrow gap clicked open when she accidentally pressed a small wooden latch along its edge.

Inside that hidden space, there were no secret corporate documents, no concealed weapons. Only a small, maroon velvet box, slightly faded with the passage of time.

Clara frowned in surprise. Driven by burning curiosity, she took the box and opened it slowly.

Her breath caught sharply in her throat. Her eyes widened as she stared at what lay inside.

Resting on a soft black lining was a platinum ring, crafted with delicate engravings of blooming roses, set at its center with a vivid, deep-green emerald. Clara recognized it instantly—it was a legendary heirloom that had belonged to her mother, a piece of jewelry believed lost forever on the tragic day of the accident fifteen years ago.

Tears spilled over and ran down her cheeks, falling onto the glass lid of the box. Her mother’s engagement ring—something she had long assumed had been destroyed or stolen by the people who murdered her parents… had been here all along.

She turned the box over and found a small, dust-covered note tucked underneath, written in elegant, slanted handwriting she knew so well—Damon’s script from when he was still a teenager:

“One day, when I have finally washed every stain of shame and blood from my family’s name, and reclaimed everything that was stolen from us… I will place this ring on her finger. It will be proof that I never truly intended to be her enemy.”

Clara pressed the velvet box tightly against her chest, her shoulders shaking with overwhelming sobs of relief and love. The man she had once seen only as a cold master of fate, a cruel architect of her suffering… had guarded her mother’s ring for over a decade, waiting patiently for the day he would finally be worthy of asking for her hand, honestly and purely.

But just as she turned to walk back toward Damon, still deep in sleep, the screen of his emergency mobile phone lying on the vanity table suddenly lit up and buzzed loudly.

An encrypted message had arrived from an unknown number, containing an official attachment stamped with the seal of the City Bureau of Burial Services:

“Application for Relocation of the Burial Site of Clara Vance’s Parents has been approved. Filed under the legal name of Julian Vance, former lawfully wedded spouse.”

“Are you certain you want to open this now, Damon?” Clara asked softly. The night wind sighed through the silence of the hidden workroom deep beneath the Vance family’s private villa. Before them stood a massive steel safe, carved with ancient patterns—once the property of Damon’s late father, Richard Vance, only recently recovered from Kaelen’s secret headquarters by Mark and his security team. Damon stood close behind her, his strong left arm wrapped firmly around her waist. Though the bandages on his right shoulder were still neatly in place, the tightness in his face betrayed a deep, raw vulnerability. Julian’s revelation about the secret documents left behind by his father had ignited the greatest curiosity of Damon’s life—and also his deepest fear. “I have to open it, Clara,” Damon’s voice came rough and low, close to her ear. He breathed in the soft scent of lavender in her hair, drawing strength from the woman beside him. “For fifteen years

Chapter 27: The Fire of Jealousy and a Stand Made Clear “Do not take another single step, Julian,” Damon hissed, his voice rough and low. That heavy, dangerous tone cut through the stillness of the underground parking garage like a blade of ice. His jaw clenched tight as stone, while his hold on Clara’s hand locked into an unyielding grip. The aura of a ruthless killer that had finally begun to fade away now surged back out from his powerful frame, radiating such pure, soul-shaking terror that Julian froze stiff where he knelt on the concrete floor. Julian trembled violently, staring up at Damon with eyes wide and wild with fear. “Damon… I never meant to disturb you… I just need help to get away… to escape…” “You took advantage of Clara’s kindness years ago, you hurt her, you destroyed everything you had… and now you dare crawl before her like a beggar, trying to play on her sympathy?” Damon took one long, deliberate step forward, positioning

“Let me handle this, Clara,” Damon whispered, his voice low and rough—calm, yet brimming with unshakable authority. He cupped her face gently in both hands, brushing away the single tear that rolled down her cheek. Just beyond the soundproof doors of the main hall, the roar of hundreds of camera shutters and the clamor of reporters from every major national media outlet echoed loudly. The manipulated video footage that had been released, carefully crafted to paint Clara as a villain, had already sparked wild, dangerous speculation across the country. Clara gripped his wrists, her eyes locked deep into his dark gaze. “Damon, you haven’t fully healed yet. If you go out there and your emotions get the better of you—” “I will never let anyone turn you into prey, Clara,” Damon cut in softly, pressing a warm, reassuring kiss to her forehead. “For fifteen years, I hid my love for you deep in the shadows. But today… today I will let th

“Straighten your collar, Damon,” Clara said softly, breaking the quiet stillness inside the private office at the very top of the Zephyr Group building. Her slender fingers moved with careful precision, adjusting the black silk tie around his neck. Damon stood perfectly still, letting her tend to his appearance. Even though he still wore a white shirt layered over a medical compression vest covering the stitches and scars on his shoulder, his commanding presence had not diminished in the slightest. Yet the gaze that once radiated cold menace now rested on Clara with nothing but deep, unwavering admiration. Clara looked breathtaking. A tailored deep maroon blazer dress hugged her figure perfectly, matched with the emerald heirloom ring glowing brilliantly on her left hand. There was no trace left of the woman who once lived trapped within illusions and despair; standing there now was a Chief Executive Officer fully ready to reclaim her rightful throne.

“Why are you looking at me like that, Clara?” Damon’s voice came soft and low, breaking the quiet stillness of the master bedroom, wrapped in the gentle patter of falling rain.Slowly, Damon opened his eyes to find Clara sitting at the edge of the bed, her gaze warm and tender as she watched him. He tried to push himself up, bracing against the dull ache still lingering in his chest, though the sharp pain had finally begun to fade. The dim glow of the bedside lamp cast a soft golden light across Clara’s face—but Damon’s attention was drawn instantly to the fingers of her left hand. There, resting on her ring finger, sat the platinum band etched with delicate roses, its center stone—a vivid emerald—glowing with deep, brilliant fire.Damon’s breath caught in his throat. His dark eyes trembled, laid bare with a raw mix of shock and vulnerability. “You… you found the box?”Clara did not answer right away.
