Chap 2: They are her sworn enemy.

After regaining consciousness, Declan was carefully examined by doctors. Fidelia stood silently in one place to avoid disturbing the doctor and the patient. She observed that his attitude and how he answered them were both very polite and calm. He was more like a gentleman than a despicable one. Intuition told her that Declan wasn't as bad as he said.

"Okay, for the time being, you don't have a problem. However, you still have to stay in the hospital for a while to monitor the wound." The doctor - who directly operated on him informed Declan's health situation.

"Thank you very much!" Declan thanked the doctor sincerely.

When everything was finished, they all left together. Now only Declan and she remained. The atmosphere in the hospital room now turned awkward. Fidelia looked up at him and saw that Declan was looking at her too, making her face hot, his eyes so warm as a fire burning in the night.

He cleared his throat, his charming smile making Fidelia even more confused. "I think you should take a rest. Your face doesn't look perfect."

Fidelia nodded, acknowledging this. She thought it was time to say goodbye to this man.

"Perhaps from tomorrow, I will not come here again. If you have regained consciousness, you should contact your family. Perhaps they're worried about you. Anyway, the family members take care of you better than me."

For some reason, when he heard Fidelia say that, Declan felt regret. He didn't seem to want her to leave; he wanted to get to know her better. When Fidelia spoke, she had a dark life, and his heart rose with bitterness. He wondered what happened to an honest and brave girl like Fidelia that caused her so much pain. Probably a considerable heartbreak that caused her to suffer a lot.

However, he couldn't force her to do something she didn't want. So Declan decided to make an offer:

"Can you stay here with me until my family arrives? Anyway, I live quite far away from here. It took them two to three days to arrive. Furthermore, I'd like to send you the number of hospital fees you paid to the hospital so that I can have surgery."

Fidelia frowned, a little hesitant. But looking at his situation now was quite inconvenient, so that she couldn't refuse Declan's request. And it was true that she needed to get that money back because it was money that she had worked so hard to save and accumulate to cover her difficult and needy life.

"Okay. Then I will stay until then."

Declan flashed a bright smile, lighting up his sculpturally handsome face. He was delighted that Fidelia had agreed to this condition. "Thank you very much!"

"Fidelia, could I use your phone? I want to contact my family members." Declan called her name affectionately. She felt like he cherished her so much that her heart fluttered in front of this man.

"I'm sorry, my phone broke because it got wet that night. There is no cure yet." Fidelia said with an apologetic voice.

She smiled bitterly as if mocking her pathetic situation. In the past, buying a new phone was easy for her, but now she has to save every penny. Her face suddenly changed, and her eyes became cold, filled with anger. Her life became miserable like this because of the people she once considered everything. They made her lose everything, her future, money, and happiness. She returned to this town to find their whereabouts to reclaim everything she had ever had. They will definitely pay for what they did to her.

Declan watched her standing there motionless, her expression a bit strange. Her hands were clenched, blue veins visible, as if Fidelia was trying to control her anger. Looking into Fidelia's eyes, he could feel the pain, the resentment she had to endure. Declan wanted to know what she had to endure, but not right now.

Declan coughed, trying to get Fidelia's attention. He smiled and said:

"It's okay; I will use the hospital phone. Goodnight!"

"Thank! You too!"

Then, Fidelia headed to the sofa across from Declan's hospital bed to nap because tomorrow was her early morning shift at the supermarket. Tiredness made her quickly fall asleep. When she opened her eyes again, the sun was already up. She quickly sat up and discovered she was covered with a warm blanket. Fidelia smiled; maybe Declan did this. He is a refined man.

She looked around the room and didn't see Declan in the hospital bed. She mumbled to herself; where had he gone so early in the morning? Fidelia neatly folded the blanket and placed it on the bed. She looked at her watch and realized she would be late for work. She couldn't stay and wait for Declan to return, so Fidelia wrote a note to tell him she had gone to work. She then quickly left Declan's hospital room.

She ran and looked at her watch so she could catch the bus to work. Because she couldn't see the road, she ran into someone. Not one person, but two people, causing all three to fall to the ground in front of the hospital's large hall.

The bag in Fidelia's hand was thrown away, its contents strewn across the floor. She scrambled to her feet, packed everything into her purse, and apologized to the two people she'd just hit.

As Fidelia was about to speak, she suddenly heard a high-pitched, sharp, and highly familiar voice behind her.

"Are you blind? Why don't you just watch where you're going, stupid?"

Fidelia clutched her bag as she realized who the woman cursing her was. She suppressed the anger in her heart, kept calm, and turned to look at them. As she expected, the two people who bumped into her were Venn and Brenna. They were the ones who made her lose everything. Her face turned cold as ice, her eyes filled with anger. Fidelia wanted to strangle them if possible.

Venn and Brenna looked at Fidelia in shock, panic in their eyes. Fidelia realized; she smirked scornfully, approached them, and said sarcastically: "Surprise, isn't it? Only a guilty person would do that. A guilty conscience never feels secure."

Although they understood what Fidelia was talking about, they showed a condescending, bossy attitude.

"Fidelia, don't go crazy here. Quickly apologize to Brenna." Venn spoke up grumpily as if he was deliberately putting all the blame on Fidelia.

"Venn, you still haven't changed your ugly personality, have you? What a scumbag."

"You…" Venn was too angry to say anything; his face was red.

Brenna became even more arrogant as a result of Venn's protection. She crossed her arms over her chest, looked at Fidelia with disdain, and deliberately roared in public:

"Fidelia, you've been in prison for so long that you've become infected with thugs, haven't you? It looks like you'd be better off in prison. I'm not sure why a murderer like you would only be sentenced to five years in prison."

Suddenly, the surroundings became silent, and everyone's eyes turned to Fidelia, full of strangeness and disgust. Brenna seems to have achieved her goal of humiliating Fidelia in front of many people; she raised her eyebrows, provoking Fidelia. There was a gossip stir; they pointed at Fidelia as if judging her persona. Some people even showed a discriminatory attitude towards Fidelia when they learned that she had been in prison.

However, Fidelia's face was expressionless, for she was so used to these images. She used to receive the same reactions and attitudes from store owners as they did when she learned that she had a criminal record. They all looked at her with disgust, like they were looking at a monster. Only James - the owner of the supermarket she currently works in. He doesn't care about Fidelia's past, as long as she can do the job. When she worked there for a while, she learned that the staff there had all been to prison and were just like. And they all feel lucky to have met James. He helped them rebuild their lives and give them a better life. It was like a second home, and James was their father.

Fidelia ignored the gazes of those around her, glaring at Brenna and Venn, eyes filled with hatred. Fidelia said calmly but menacingly:

"Just wait. One day, I will personally send you and him to prison to pay the price for what I went through. Let's try to enjoy the rest of the days outside!"
